Not ignorant at all …good question …and agree with you in that it doesn’t take a rocket scientist if you watch the Magic to know what player makes the greatest impact …and it’s not close re JI …my understanding of plus minus is that when a player, any player is on the court it takes into account of whether the entire team out scores the opponent or the opponent outscores in this case the Magic .

What is mind boggling to me is the names at the top …not AB mind you …but Suggs decisively at the top and Banchero solidly in second .

It also lists games played, minutes per game etc etc …was reading a few days ago on another site talking about the Magic numbers when Banchero was on the court but I just kinda glossed over it …this little nugget got my attention .

I think you missed Crazy's question. No, this stat does not take into account minutes played or the context of those minutes. Thus, while JI has been a huge difference maker in the minutes/games he's played, he's played far fewer minutes/games than the other regulars. Additionally, he's played a lot of those minutes against backups off the bench. As to the games moving forward, I think it's a no brainer to start him like the last game. That lineup, assuming JI can stay healthy, is incredible.

The problem is naturally how high is our ceiling with him at PG? The only similar test case on a championship roster is probably Rajon Rondo, who had three All-Stars around him, including the #2 greatest shooter of all time in Ray Allen.

Agree. It’s easy to fall into the trap of recency bias. Over the last four years, not including his first three years in the league, Kelle has only been able to play in roughly 35% of the games. Add in his lack of shooting, and I see an unpredictable ceiling at best relying on Kelle as our starting pg. Maybe we’ll keep him and add a guy like Brogdon. That’d make this fan happy.

would San Antonio trade with us? they wanted AB really bad in the draft!

so would they trade us Vassell and Johnson for a package around AB?

    Orl get Vassell, Johnson

SAS get AB, Harris, Okeke and 2024 1st pick, 2025 Den pick, also several 2nd round picks

I don’t see why they’d want to trade Vassell.

In all fairness Soul …Fultz isn’t the only one

    https://www.espn.com/nba/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/threePointPct/dir/desc

We have sunk to new lows …even I didn’t realize it was this bad now …team wise dead last in the league shooting the three …34.2 percent …OUCH !

Its gonna take a lot more than a good shooting PG to fix this teams 3 point shooting woes ….feel free to blame whomever for this deficiency

I totally agree with you here!

  5. I think Kelle would make a great backup point guard, if he could stay healthy. In the modern NBA, where shooting and spacing are critical, here are Kelle's three point percentages by year:

    • Year 1 - 0%
    • Year 2 - 28%
    • Year 3 - 26%
    • Year 4 - 25%
    • Year 5 - 23%
    • Year 6 - 31%
    • Year 7 - 0%

For the Magic, it has been far too long since we had a legit, starting, floor spacing, point guard. I'm not sure what the fanbase would even do if we added one.

  6. Quote

    1. Anfernee Simons, Portland Trail Blazers

    2. Quentin Grimes, New York Knicks

    3. Malcolm Brogdon, Portland Trail Blazers

Of all the kinda, sorta feasible fake trades out there, Simons to Orlando is a personal favorite.

The Magic need more offensive punch to pair with their sixth-rankeddefense, and he'd be an awesome source to provide it, as his skill set covers everything from pull-up triples to rim-rockers. And at 24, he's the right age to grow alongside Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Simons also may not be available, so there's that. The Blazers still see him as a "key building block," per Action Network's Matt Moore, so perhaps this is nothing more than wishful thinking. Then again, Portland also has Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson locked into its long-term plans, so Simons doesn't feel totally untouchable.

Otherwise, Orlando should be scouring for scoring and spacing. Grimes and Brogdon check both boxes, though the former gets the nod for being younger and not having the same injury concerns as the latter.

Cause he’s not guarded …you at least have to guard Fultz or account for him

Junkie, Fultz is not guarded at the 3 point line, either. One is shooting 35% from three this year (AB), while the other is shooting 0% from three this year (Kelle). One actually can hit shots from three, while the other literally can't/won't. (Both have awful form). I'm not sure there is another starting PG in the league like Kelle that is shooting 0% from three. Just let that stat sink in. And for the record, I love Kelle's handle and passing, but I'd trade Kelle and/or AB and picks to upgrade that spot.

Paolo, Franz, Suggs, AB and possibly WCJ.

Is it worthwhile taking a step forward at PG to take a step backward at C?  Possibly but from a cap perspective that WCJ contract is nice and hard to let go of. He'll be making less than the mid level exception for the next 2 years after this one. That's insane value.

AB I'm just really high on.

I hear you. I think these are my only untouchables related to Murray:

Paulo, Franz and Suggs… which is why I don’t believe we trade for Murray.

I’ve convinced myself that the Hawks would demand Suggs and picks for Murray, but I personally can’t envision us including Suggs. He’s our culture setter and still very young and improving. (For me, WCJ is very close to making my list, too).

    Untouchables

    Paolo and Franz

    Doubtful

    Suggs, Carter, Cole, Black, Jett

    Maybe but probably not

    Moe, Caleb, Ingles, Goga

    On the block

    Fultz, Harris, Okeke

    Here's what I believe:

    Untouchables

    Paolo and Franz

    Doubtful

Suggs... then Carter, Black, Moe, Joe

    Maybe but probably not

    Jett, Cole, JI, Caleb, Goga

    On the block

    Fultz, Harris, Okeke

It's an interesting exercise, as I believe Moe and Joe provide intangible chemistry pieces, especially for Franz. Furthermore, I wonder if Atlanta is demanding Suggs in any Murray trade.
