Junkie and everyone else, I am on the Magic bandwagon, plain and simple. Whoever helps us win, that's who needs to play. If it's Bogans with his physical play, so be it. If it is Redick with his shot, so be it. I hope we succeed. Thus, I hope they succeed. All of them. Like many, I still believe we need a pounding PF and hopefully Otis makes that happen. Until then, GO MAGIC!!!

Thoughts on Peaches, AJ, Lee, JJ and Battie so far

I haven't been able to watch the games. What's up with Turk?
  6. I think Hedo would have Phil thinking Scotty all over again.
  7. Just say no ... to Darko!!!
  8. Wow. Dent is going out on a limb. Good for him. I love Odom's game, and he is a bad fit in the triangle offense of LA. Would I do it? Tempting, especially because it would clear a lot of cap space for next summer. Would we be better NOW with Odom at the 4 and Lew at the 3? Hmmm.... I actually believe so b/c it would balance us out. (Remember: Odom can facilitate like a madman, too). 15/9/4.5 are nasty numbers and would only improve next to Dwight.
  9. Had the same exact surgery. I'm glad to have Batman back. He's the only true big, tough guy we have on the team (including Dwight).

  12. Bump ... best thread in a while.
  13. Thanks bhnole. Fun read. I suppose I am in the minority but I hope we trade Turk. Why? I just do not see a core of Turk, Shard, and Dwight winning a championship. Ideally, I'd like us to keep Turk at a reasonable price but I don't see that happening. This year will prove a lot. I really want to see Turk coming off the bench and Shard starting at the three. Can someone else in the starting five facilitate the offense? Again in the minority, I also look forward to Battie's return. His physical front court play is needed in the worse way. With his return, I believe Howard's rebounding numbers will go down while Howard's points and energy will go up. More importantly, I believe we will improve as a team. Ultimately, this team glaringly needs a young four to develop next to Dwight so that we can keep up with Detroit in the East. Is Gortat that guy? I have my doubts. Like Sky said, we need a Grant. Will that cost us Hedo? Probably.
  14. quote: Originally posted by You're Fat, Pat!:1.) What 5 players would you put on the floor if you were Stan and you felt like you needed your best defensive team on the floor? This is tough simply because we have not seen Lee in NBA action...so if he is as good on D as they say he is, this lineup would definitely change: Johnson Bogans Pietrus Battie Howard but if Lee is a defensive stud like we've heard he is, I would switch him out with either Johnson or Bogans. 2.) What 5 players would you put on the floor if you wanted to have an unstoppable offensive team? Jameer Pietrus Turkoglu Lewis Howard 3.) What 5 players that are currently on our roster would give us the most balanced line-up of offensive and defensive players? Same as above, UNLESS...Lee is capable of playing PG well. If he does, then he would be a great fit because his defense MUST be an upgrade over Jameer. Most of this is all dependent on Lee, who we know practically nothing about. We've heard many great things about him, but we'll have to see how it goes before we make any judgements about him...IMO. Agree with everything you wrote. Could Lee be a defensive stopper at PG? Could he be a scorer at SG? We'll see. I, for one, am very glad Battie is back. His toughness and leadership don't show up in the box score but are key assets to our shallow front court.
  15. Once considered the beast of the east, Garrity ruined Chris Webber's career. Meanwhile, T-Mac has not been the same since leaving his mean-green-sharp-shooting machine. Here is to you, Pat Garrity, for many fine years of entertainment and basketball!
  16. quote: Originally posted by SmackDaddy:It would be nice if we could rewind the clock and target a SG free agent instead of Shard, but that boat has sailed. The team now needs to decide if their allegiance is to Shard or Hedo. IMO, both players cannot thrive and help the team propser when they are both capable of contributing in the exact same ways (to a degree). The newborn aspect of players leaving the NBA for a better paycheck in the Euroleague adds a new dimension to answering this question. If by the trade deadline, Hedo has not agreed to a reasonable contract extension, then Otis should be forced to trade him. Unfortunately GM's can no longer rely on Bird Rights to offer much security or leverage during complicated negotiations. Players can now hold NBA GM's to the fire and drain them for every penny they think they may be worth, unjustified or not. With Hedo's emergence as a goto player, rumors are he is seeking anywhere from 10 to 14 million, and I guarantee he can get that much or more in the Euroleague. However, this will likely be Hedo's first and last opportunity at a big payday. Therefore, if it is the money he is looking for, then any loyalty that the Magic have previously shown regarding their core players, won't mean much. This is an enormous decision that our front office needs to get right. If we truly want to move forward with Hedo as a key component to the roster, then his contract must remain affordable (and it must provide the team with future flexibility). Unfortunately, regardless of the amount he is signed for, the Magic will definitely be faced with paying the luxury tax as soon as next year. With Hedo and Rashard both potentially signed to lucrative long-term contracts, the Magic will certainly need to address the PF position also. A young big man, oozing with potential is a must. Somebody that will be young enough to afford and promising enough to give minutes to develop, but also enough of a prospect that management feels this player can eventually man the starting spot capably. If the Magic choose not to move forward with Hedo on the roster, that is a realization they must come to within the first few weeks of the season. Simply waiting until the trade deadline, could potentialy drive down Hedo's value, and other teams will be aware that a traded Hedo still presents their organization with the same problems the Magic will face in the offseason. The only exception to this, is if Hedo agrees to an extension as part of the trade that lands him on another team. Totally agree.

It might need be emphasized that there's a huge difference between something being physically addictive where you have withdrawal symptoms, and something being psychologically addictive. And the fact is, pure and simple, that marijuana is not physically addictive. At all. It does nothing to you that causes withdrawal symptoms. Period. Study after study has been done confirming this. You can argue that it is psychologically addictive, just as you can argue that anything is psychologically addictive. This forum is psychologically addictive. But that alone is not enough to put it in the same category with actual addictive drugs like nicotine, heroin, caffeine, cocaine, etc. Please just check the Net. For instance, type in "withdrawal marijuana" or something similar in Google's search engine and read the data. Yes, marijuana is addictive ... physically, psychologically, emotionally, etc. Here are some scientific studies: Beardsley et al., 1986; Budney et al., 2001; Holson et al., 1989; Huestis et al., 2001; 1999; Haney et al., 1999; Mendelson et al., 1984., Kouri et al, 2002. To make it easy b/c these studies aren't user friendly, here is one link: http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/display/article/10168/54701. I probably should have just stuck to the b-ball stuff, anyway.

That notion was proven false years ago Where are the facts that back this notion. Alcohol related deaths in 2006 were 16,005. This does not include the abuse, or gun related deaths that drunk people commit. Alcohol is a huge problem in this country and marijuana is NOT physically addictive and does not cause the problems that alcohol does. But alcohol commercials are all over and most people think its alright. But when someone is caught smoking a joint they are an outcast and a "druggie". People have got to remember that alcohol is a drug and a much worse drug than marijuana will ever be. Back to this post. Kruger and Quinn suck. We need a playmaking point. Especially if Hedo moves on. Fan, no doubt alcoholism is a serious problem, too. I don't care to argue which is worse. I run a recovery and counseling center just outside of NYC for a living and am an interventionist. As for the facts, simply look around the Net using simple searches.
