  1. I read a post that said our bed has pretty much been made, but I disagree.

I think we need another big that can impact this team (as do some so-called NBA analysts) and if we are willing to disrupt our roster for that to happen, what stops us from pushing forward with a more appealing deal that may arise.

  2. Just to add to the trade rumor mill drama:

Richardson staying with Magic or going?

Recent rumors have suggested that Jason Richardson might be sent to Memphis for Zach Randolph, but according to sources the Magic have been talking about extending his contract. This doesn't rule out a trade or confirm that the Magic intend to keep Richardson. According to sources the Magic have yet to make an offer with Randolph but that doesn't mean they aren't interested. Either way, expect to see Richardson in the news for one reason or the other

The Grizzlies are talking to a number of teams, with several players on their roster potentially in the mix. The three Griz names we're hearing the most are O.J. Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet and, to a lesser extent, Zach Randolph...

While it's unclear if it was actually proposed, I was told that, internally, the Grizzlies have discussed sending Randolph to Orlando for Brandon Bass and Jason Richardson. The thinking in Memphis is that the deal would keep the Grizzlies competitive this season while also giving them a young power forward for the future. Randolph is an unrestricted free agent this summer and it isn't clear if the Grizzlies can afford to keep him, while Bass is due $4 million next season and has a $4 million player option in 2012-13.

EDIT: if this has been posted already, my bad.... haven't been on here for a while

  3. Ryan Anderson will start at power forward, replacing injured Brandon Bass.
Ultimately, Van Gundy decided it was best to start Anderson because Anderson would be the team's best bet to defend Chris Bosh.

Van Gundy and his assistants also considered putting rarely used forward Earl Clark into the starting lineup, but Clark missed Wednesday's practice because of a fever.

Clark participated in today's shootaround and should be available to play tonight.

In other Magic injury news, shooting guard J.J. Redick (sore left shoulder) will be available to play tonight.
Backup big man Malik Allen, who has a sprained MCL in his left knee, will try to play tonight, Van Gundy said.

I posted this in another thread, but it involves tonight's game sooooo

  5. Isn't that when the Magic were.. you know, at least ahead or tied in the game?

Besides, Randolph has been known to kill them anyway. Why not double?

I agree. Randolph is a double double machine. He's an offensive threat in the post and on the boards. I had no qualms with that at all.

Our defense leaves much to be desired. With Nelson and Arenas at the helm, we lack defensive pressure from the PG position. When they are both in the game, well, it isn't pretty. Defense stems from the point guard since the opposition's PG is running their offense. Imagine Derrick Rose against Nelson, ouch. Dwight can only do so much and currently we have a defensive scheme tailor made to push the ball handler inside to Dwight. When DH is out of the game or out of position, we are screwed. Think about it -- Nelson, J Rich, Hedo, Anderson, Redick, Arenas and company are not lock down defenders by any means.

Analysts are convinced that Otis is not finished with acquiring pieces to fit a championship caliber puzzle. With the trade deadline closing in, I'm sure he's looking for a defensive-minded swingman and a big. With that said, I like this team.

  6. lol wut

lol He's the one who injured JJ when we played the Cavs

I don't know if we would have won if he played, but the game was pretty damn close.

BTW, don't know if this was posted yet:

Jan 31 Bass sprained his left ankle in Monday's game against the Grizzlies, the Orlando Sentinel's Josh Robbins reports.

Recommendation: X-rays were negative, but Bass will be reevaluated when the team returns to Orlando. The Magic are already thin in the frontcourt following the trade that sent Marcin Gortat out of town, so losing Bass for an extended period would be a significant blow. Orlando's next game is Thursday against Miami.

  7. The quickest counter to that is "But Dwight still had big games in the playoffs!" but it's more about how he got them and at what expense. Perkins makes Howard get them in a way where the whole team's offense drops.

Think about it this way: with Lewis gone, how do we know Bass and Anderson will do as good of a job? Also, what's stopping Bass and Anderson from struggling if KG's there?

I wonder how Boston's defense would stand up to a lineup of:

    Nelson/Arenas

    Redick/Arenas

    Richardson

    Turkoglu

    Anderson

That's five guys who can hit the three and spread the floor with Perkins out of the paint and guarding Anderson around the arc and Garnett guarding Turk also on the perimeter. We'd also have movement, cutters and screens going every which way. Don't forget about the pick and roll with RA.

WTF is Boston going to do with that? Go into zone? And that would also leave gaps in the D. I'm interested to see something like that.

  8. I think his downfall is his shot selection in games. He needs to be more judicious and aware of the offensive situation. Meaning, if he doesn't get a solid pass, if he is off balance, if he is guarded closely -- do not shoot the ball. Be patient, pick your spots.

That is why attacking the basket is so crucial. It opens up your game and when the defender gives you some cushion, then let it fly.

  9. Nobody.

Hedo plays the 3 and comes and spells the 4 OCCASIONALLY. Usually due to matchups. Bass starts and Ryan subs in for Bass. When Dwight goes out Ryan slides to the 4 and Bass plays the 5.

If we sign Murph or a player capable of getting minutes then they would most likely sub in for Dwight allowing Ryan and Bass to share the minutes at the 4, with either of them occasionally sliding to the 5 still.

hmm..so just reduced minutes for all of the above.

I think that's the best scenario if we sign Murphy, but I hope everyone who takes a hit in playing time responds positively to the situation. "Competition" between players at the same position is a great problem to have, I just hope egos don't collide. I guess it adds incentive to the players to give 100% every time they check in -- if you play well, you stay on the floor.

  10. How can we expect Arenas to put up points with Ryan Anderson on the floor 28jfqkw.gif

But in all seriousness, I think he just needs time. He needs court time, practice time, anything he can get. Arenas has been haunted with injuries throughout his past (and hasn't been playing enough NBA ball recently), and now he is out of D.C. after 8 years. He needs to become comfortable with the team and with his body.

IMO only time will tell if he can achieve that swagger and production he once had.

  11. Bass has been the one playing the 5 when Dwight goes to the bench anyways so I'm not sure I understand how that affects the backup C slot. Not being a jerk I just don't understand your thinking

Honestly, I thought Anderson and Bass were sharing that role as backup center. Maybe I'm wrong, but when Dwight goes to the bench I find RA checking in half the time. I think the sub for center is dependent on rest and match ups.
