Oh don't get me wrong I'm not defending the statements. I'm just pointing out that you can't really take things said to the media as anything more than PR. Like does Alex Martins actually believe we could have been the Miami Heat last season? Almost assuredly not but he's got to sell tickets, sell sponsorships, keep board members happy and all that other crap that comes with his job. It is what it is.

I get that but he’s not filling up that arena with Magic fans. I’m also curious how much Magic merchandise is being bought. I would guess it’s very low.

They can spread sunshine and rainbows all they want but even now the national media are beginning to call them out.

IMO, a turnaround will only happen if you have new ownership. Rich was the driving force. The energy to win was from him. That’s gone. We need new blood.

What do you expect they come out and say "nah we're just trading everyone for anything we can get our hands on" that's a great negotiating tactic.

They've also got to sell tickets for the rest of the year and you don't do that by outwardly saying "we're not even trying to win".

Correct. However, there’s an old saying, “You can bs everyone sometimes, you can bs some everytime, but you can’t bs everyone everytime.”

In addition to that article, there was another recent article in the Sentinel about the Magic:

    https://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlando-magic/os-sp-orlando-magic-back-to-back-against-knicks-nets-challenging-stretch-20210317-3esyljdja5gnjnraezgn7lj24i-story.html

"The Orlando Magic’s schedule is about to ramp up in terms of difficulty. Not that this pandemic-driven season has been easy by any stretch, but Orlando is about to enter a gauntlet of games that likely will determine its playoff future.

As slim as those chances currently might appear, the Magic are only 4½ games out of the 10th and final play-in spot, currently held by the Pacers. Still, it won’t be an easy climb.  Orlando will have to jump past four teams to get there and can't afford to slip much more in the standings.

    The Magic are staying optimistic."

Playoffs??  With an 8 game losing streak and one of the worst records in the NBA?  It's hard for me to understand the mindset behind some of the comments in these articles.

Rich Devos was a very successful individual who was driven. He wanted to win and didn’t need years to evaluate to know it’s not working. He’s gone and I think we’re simply seeing the affects of it.

Thanks Magicman28. I think it was the right thing to do because conversations about covid-19 were being posted in the basketball thread about the Magic.

    Agree.

POTUS just extended this for 30 more days.

Oh yeah, I have heard, and you appear to have found some good sources. Indeed he has been in the Viper den, but whom better then one who knows all the nooks and crannies? They never were able to put him on the Lolita Express plane to Epstein Island with the other pedos. They did have one pic of him with Epstein but not compromising just in the NY circles. I agree; he says things sometimes to throw off the media and others and that has been mentioned as well on the Twitter  QAnon hashtag thread.

Yeah I got some. Not media oriented. Just started reading this the other day. Buddy told me about it.

I don’t know how it would be possible.

  6. Well he’s human. He’s  been a part of that “club” his whole life. That’s why I won’t let my guard down nor will I be blinded by party line or get too comfortable.  I do like what he’s done (not what he says but I think what he says sometimes is for a reason) and my rights...He’s got quite the opposition from those who want a world government. I hope he succeeds.

So, April 1? Heard about that?

You folks are getting ready to learn a lot and if I’m wrong then so be it as I will be leaving this board shortly anyhow, but if I can enlighten a few it was worth the crap I take. I’ve been studying this a long time and take these sound bites and misinformation with a grain of salt as so much of the time they only show part of the conversations and misrepresent the rest. I’ve seen it over and over again. 90% of the news is fake and they will be exposed, so before you folks sling your arrows at least give it a month to see if indeed what I’m saying is true. I’ve already called the Fed restructuring yet no kudos from anyone, funny how that works as only the negative gets any traction on this board which I’m fed up with it.

You really believe “that’s” going to happen?

Folks, CNN is not news; it’s propaganda. Did you not see them for 2 years saying that Meuller had the goods on Trump and he was going down and then nothing...... that is just one sampling, but significant. They are one of the lowest rated news sources as well as Morning Joe. To get the real news you have to dig deep and look at alternative sources as well and then contemplate everything.

Should research Poynter. Not exactly unbiased.

No other countries did it? Well that's not true at all. When you look at countries that have proper PPE and robust testing like South Korea, you see the minimal deaths it's causing there.

This is not a hindsight 20/20 thing. This is absolute failure. There have been multiple reports of people warning him about this from before the first case even came to the country.

He didn't even give himself a chance because he actually fired the guy who's supposed to blow the whistle for us when pandemics are starting to form in China

He didn't act on it because he isn't nuanced enough in daily world affairs to actually understand that these things take proper planning. It's why you don't have a fake billionaire who's bankrupted so many companies because of poor planning and asset management actually run an entire country such as the USA -- because running a country is not even close to running a business.

    CNN, there’s a legitimate source.

Isn’t it up to the hospital to order the right amount of PPE?

If you only knew how badly trump failed this country at the onset of this outbreak ...that’s ok you guys aren’t the ones actively fighting against this without proper PPE in areas where the virus is heavily concentrated

Everything thus far has been a step late and it’s costing not only lives On the front line but also prolonging  the length of these measures.

this guy was talking about it being a democratic hoax when he should have been preparing companies to be spitting out tests and protective equipment a month  ahead of time.

    https://www.cato.org/blog/coronavirus-nih/cdc-funding

Let me tell you something, CDC saw this coming. They tried to get into China back in December. Chinese government denied them and kept insisting its animal to animal. The Chinese government even hid the history of this virus from CDC. Chinese being the communists they are even controlled the media from being leaked. They wouldn’t even announce it even though CDC knew about it. China flat out denied it.

Do you know how this virus got it’s foothold?

For those who think trump is on your side, either you are very well off monitarily or very far off. And no I’m not on the dems side either. They have bailed out large corporations again while leaving the people in the lurch AGAIN!!! And I’m talking about both sides.

like Carlin said “it’s a big club and you ain’t in it”

40 trillion has been pumped into Wall Street in the last month and now they just gave the richest 1% another 1.5 trillion in this bill that can turn into 20 trillion. While the people and hospitals got 350 billion.

wrap your head around that and it got 100% congress approval. Now tell me who again is on the side of the people.

    Wake the F UP!!!!!!!!

The corporations are the ones who employ the masses. Like it or not.

I’ll never be <insert any politician name> fanboy. I vote for whoever upholds the constitution and doesn’t take my rights. Then I look at other factors like economy but a fanboy? Absolutely not. I don’t want to be in their club.

There’s a lot here though. A lot going on outside of just health care.

    FACT-CHECKING

Some of Donald Trump's Most Misleading Coronavirus Claims

Editors:  Oliver Milmann - The Guardian
Marshall Cohen and Curt Merrill - CNN
David Leonhardt - The New York Times

A List of Claims/Rejections/Denials  - **In no particular order

    1) The president has repeatedly downplayed the threat posed by Covid-19, criticizing concern over the crisis as a “hoax.”

    2)  December 31 - Health officials in Wuhan, China, post a notice that says they’re investigating a pneumonia outbreak that is spreading in their city. The World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledges that it “was informed of a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause.”

    3)  January 8 -  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) publishes a health advisory regarding the “pneumonia of unknown etiology” that appears to have originated in Wuhan.

    4)  January 17 -  The CDC dispatches more than 100 staffers to three US airports to screen passengers arriving from Wuhan, a highly unusual step only taken during major health crises.

    5)  January 22 -  President Trump made his first public comments about the coronavirus on Jan. 22, in a television interview from Davos with CNBC’s Joe Kernen. The first American case had been announced the day before, and Kernen asked Trump, “Are there worries about a pandemic at this point?”

The president responded: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

    6) January 24 -  Dr. Nancy Messonnier, a senior CDC official handling the response to respiratory diseases, tells reporters, “We do expect additional cases in the United States and globally.”

    7)  “I would view it as something that just surprised the whole world,” the president said in a press conference earlier this month. “Nobody knew there would be a pandemic or epidemic of this proportion.”

    8)  There is evidence, however, that not only was the Trump administration warned about the potential of a pandemic and its dangers to Americans, it was given a plan on how to deal with it, which it promptly shelved.

During the Obama administration, the National Security Council drew up a 69-page “playbook on fighting pandemics”, Politico has reported. The document, crafted in the wake of the 2016 Ebola outbreak, contained advice on tracking the spread of a new virus, how to ensure testing was conducted effectively and the need to stockpile emergency resources.

The incoming Trump administration was briefed on the playbook but it was “thrown on to a shelf.”

    9)  In February, the president said the virus could “maybe go away. We’ll see what happens. Nobody really knows.” He predicted it is “going to disappear. One day it’s like a miracle – it will disappear.”

    10)  By the end of February, Trump and administration officials started shifting their tone. They spoke about the expected uptick in cases and Trump backed away from his comment that concerns about the virus were a “hoax” peddled by Democrats to help them at the polls this November.

    11)  ‘I’ve always known this is a real – this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic. I’ve always viewed it as very serious’
As is the case with many of Trump’s statements, his claim he has always taken the pandemic seriously deviates wildly from his previous comments. Perhaps most infamously, Trump said “I don’t take responsibility at all” when asked about the faltering US response.

"This is not a time for people to freak out and be overly concerned," Cetron said. "This is a time for vigilance and awareness."

He added that much more common illnesses, such as the flu, are "much bigger threats" to Americans than the new virus from China.

Do you think it’s possible that if the director of the CDC's division of global migration and quarantine says this to the public, he said the same thing to Trump telling him they got this which is why Trump would say three days later they got it under control?

Then read that Jan 24 transcript where the CDC head executive echoes Trump’s comment about it being a traveler from China and praise the efforts of the federal, state, and local governments.

Same CDC that back in October (2 months before the virus popped up) had a summit about how to deal with Coronavirus’s with good ol Bill Gates and some media executives.

Ok, so all the haters who have been calling me crazy over my predictions and giving me - , I can report that the Fed was indeed reorganized yesterday when Trump signed. More predictions to come true shortly and then at some point I will probably leave this board due to all the negativity, it’s not worth the uneasiness of conflict when life has so much better to offer when one looks in the right places.

    Yup. He’s now the chairman.

Want to see something interesting? Go look at John Hopkins website and the summit they had in October. Guess who was there and what that summit was about?

I get it man, and I agree with you. The hoarding is freaking ridiculous and I blame the media for that part.

And the people...People aren’t showing much common sense about this. They are showing how panicking makes it worse.

I’m telling you we’re far behind on testing. Once testing is up to date the numbers will skyrocket BECAUSE ITS SPREADING LIKE CRAZY.

oh please do not say physicians and virologists are saying otherwise. The overwhelming majority of physicians and virologists would shake their head at your statements. Maybe because I work with so many. So please continue to tell me what I see at work lol

    I misread. Apologies.

Theres no data supporting that new cases are in fact new cases. In fact it’s saying the virus wasn’t spreading as quickly as they thought. I’ll find that article and post it.

Uh, those go hand in hand. The number of tests will detect rising numbers because it is spreading like crazy. You can’t have one without the other.

i think I got my point across to you. If anyone else has questions I’d be happy to answer.

So you’re telling me everyone who has it has been tested and any new cases will be new cases? Come on

Your ignoring many physicians and virologists who say otherwise. You are also ignoring data that proves this to be not true.
