I'm not opposed to benching Dipo but I think it's hypocritical to bench an player who's giving you defensive effort every night despite poor shooting in favor of an younger player who can't seem to be consistent on both ends, who let Dellavedova nail wide open shots. Then you plug in Frye...This has been tried before. Insanity.

I don't either. He wants effort and to start first and third quarters strong so he takes one of our best defenders out and plugs in Frye.

Yeah I agree. This is why I REALLY want Hezonja to start showing and proving sooner than later. I think in the future he's key. I know we pretty much agree that Porzingis was our number one on our draft board (we can see why) but Hezonja and Gordon really dictate on what our lineup becomes long term.

Yeah. I hated it but I think with Skiles offense, you gotta change some things plus, I'm sorry, but Payton was absent last night. That's the thing with him. He's so talented but at times, he's not engaged or at least, seems like he's not. He's young so he'll learn but at least with Dipo, you know he's engaged. He just can't hit anything consistently. Maybe by letting him have more ball control (can't believe I'm saying that) maybe he can get going. Imo, Skiles really puts an emphasis on defensive effort. Dipo, despite this crazy slump he's in, is always bringing it on the other side of the ball.

It's what I said in another post...The type of offense Skiles runs is very focused on ball moving around more than anything. With JV, the offense was more about moving players around. A lot more PnR's, cuts, slashes, etc. I love what Skiles has done defensively and I love how he's holding players accountable for a lack of effort but his offense does not play up to their strengths imo. Dipo isn't a catch and shoot player first. It's in his repertoire, but usually when he's on. Same with Payton. He's a guy who needs to have the ball in his hands and move around. Skiles offense can be quite effective and a beautiful thing to watch, WITH the right players. I don't think he has that until everyone is consistently making shots, which none of our young draft picks are strong at.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vuc is bench too. The front court struggled to keep the Cavs front court off the boards. Wouldn't be surprised if Smith starts.

Heck yeah. Look at that paint touch FG%...Easy baskets... Now look at his drive fg%? Why's that? Maybe because when he plays the SF spot and drives from the 3 point line, it's not very effective. Just because he can do it doesn't mean it should be done repetitiously. Also, look at his catch and shoot %. Sure, some of the passes he gets aren't always crisp but if you look at the elbow touch%, it's definitely better. In fact, all of his percentages show that he's more effective in the paint out to mid range which is where most versatile 4's are effective at. I get him guarding multiple positions but his role would benefit the team by playing IN the paint. Not out of it. He's a PF who can guard multiple positions. There's nothing wrong or new about that. KG did it against Tmac. Duncan will guard centers at times. AD does it but offensively, AG needs to spend most of his time in the paint playing the 4 spot. You know, Skiles is implementing a very skilled oriented offense. Part of that, is know your role and this young, talented team, needs to find their roles. Sounds easy but for guys who are drafted high, who work hard on their shots and stuff, I wouldn't doubt everyone wants to be the star. I'm not saying they are personally selfish but everyone wants to show off that new shiny look-what-I-can-do-now skill. These guys need to know their roles. AG made comments in the off season about being a SF, well, I don't see it. Never have. The eye test, and some of the stats are starting to show, while being versatile like a KG or AD, he's more effective and seems to have a better feel of the game IN the paint. Dipo? I go back to what he didn't in the off season. Dude should've hit the weights...Hard! The reason why I don't want to give up on him, is because maybe he decides to do it this off season. There's not a doubt in my mind that if he was stronger, he would be putting defenders on a poster which was one of his strengths in college...Getting to the basket and finishing. He lacks confidence in the refs, and he doesn't have the strength to go up strong against stronger pro players and with the new emphasis on defense, he's expelling a lot of energy which can be detrimental to an players offense if they lack strength. There's this misconception that stronger means less energy output or reduce quickness, which is completely false. I know ironman athletes who powerlift and are strong as gorillas who outperform the non weightlifter.

It just seems like we're playing San Antonio ball with guys who shouldn't be playing that way. I see no cuts, no alley oops, no pick and rolls, no slashing, no posting Harris on smaller defenders, no iso's for Dipo to get in the lane...Just seems like certain player's strengths are not being used. I am glad Skiles put Gordon on Cousins. Skiles has been matching him up with mostly 4's recently which I like. Gordon should be posting up more too. He can front his man and go right by them or pull up the mid range shot. Stop letting him wander around the 3 point line.
