  1. How many offensive possessions in a row have we had where only one player touches the ball? Problem is that when one guy does it, they all start to do it.
  2. Looks like our usual collapse coming early. No interior defense at all, and Hampton and Harris not moving the ball. Bad on both ends. Don’t understand how people think this helps us be better next year. It won’t.

    2021 NBA Draft Thread

Unfortunately there’s about a one out of two chance that it won’t be, even if we have the very worst record in the NBA at the end of the season.
  4. I think part of the problem with our shooters such as Canaday is that our ball movement, especially with Hampton in there, is insufficient to get them into any kind of rhythm. They get very few touches, and when they do get one, it’s rarely for a good look. It’s why I believe that one selfish player can make everyone else on the court worse, at least on offense.
  5. There’s a reason that no one seems to have a bad night against us anymore. We’re playing really bad defense. The lack of effort is evident with all the second chance points we’ve been giving up. It’s the kind of thing you see with a demoralized team and unfortunately it’s a steppingstone to developing losing habits.
  6. Agree with both points. RJ is looking like the next Bacon; extremely selfish, makes everyone else worse.
  7. Having them get blown out on a regular basis is not good for them and not helpful for evaluating them either.

Sorry. Misunderstood your post. To be fair, it’s not totally clear until you clarified.

Weren’t we in the top 10 worst 5 years in a row? I seem to recall we had the worst W-L in the NBA for a five year stretch. We weren’t forced to sell

+1 from me. I agree with all your points. I also could have phrased some of my posts differently.

Since from my standpoint tanking has a cost associated with it, the calculation is not so clear. I balance the cost of tanking vs the very small additional improvement in odds from, for example, 3rd worst vs 6th worst, and I don’t believe the benefit is worth the cost. Imagine if we all of a sudden started playing good ball and finished 12-5 or something similar. We’d have a lot of optimism going in to next season, and the players might feel like they’re starting to coalesce as a team. Instead we’re likely to slink into the off season at 3-14 or worse. I think that sets the tone for a bad start to next season, and also slows the development of our young team. How do you get into the mindset of grinding out tough wins if you don’t win any? Barring a draft miracle, which as we’ve seen in the past 10 years is an incredibly risky strategy to rely on, I think tanking does us more harm than good. I’d rather focus on using the rest of this season to develop what we have.

Not stopping almost everyone here from calling for us to tank. And IIRC, the very worst team has about a 50% chance of getting pick #5, so top 4 not guaranteed at all.
  13. I think his overall point makes sense. Let's try to develop what we have now. The odds are not good that we get a top 3 pick no matter where we end up. They are marginally better if we tank but the cost of that is the young players don't develop confidence or good habits if they keep losing. He believes that tradeoff isn't worth it and I completely agree.

I like the idea in the abstract, but the problem is that "blatant tanking" would be a subjective standard. I think it could lead to endless arguing. That's why I'd just like to do away with the whole concept and make the draft completely random. At that point, everyone starts trying to win.
  15. For these players the bigger picture is whether they'll be in the NBA next year. They need to be playing their tails off. If management were to encourage players to lose, not only would it be probably illegal, but it would create a losing culture for us for decades.
  16. I'm just don't think you can turn it on and off. I'm not convinced that adding Fultz and Isaac to this mess, assuming they can stay on the court, is enough to make us competitive.

I wish they would do away with the whole thing and just make everyone's pick random regardless of their record. That would stop the tanking once and for all.
  18. Hampton not letting anyone else get touches
  19. Looking at the way our young guys are getting beaten up by other lousy teams playing young players, I have to assume we’re going to be one of the worst teams in the league next season.
  20. Agree. We need to try to find a few open looks for him.
  21. I like it too and I want our guys to play well and win. I think Ross being out could make us more likely to win if the team shares the ball.
  22. Good ball movement until second unit came in. Hampton and Bacon hogging the ball.
