I couldn’t agree more. I think we started to see this at the end of last season. I would argue that the tanking efforts imparted an “everyone for themself” mentality that is carrying over, because we didn’t see that style of play from him for most of the year, but I know many disagree with that. Regardless, very few can disagree that Anthony is not making his teammates better right now.

What is a coaching consultant? I could see that being a problem if the current coach feels like someone is looking over his shoulder or second guessing him. Could become a “too many cooks” situation.

Roster spots may be secure. But playing time isn’t. Plenty of motivation to impress a new coach and try to mesh with with new teammates. I don’t know if they thought because they had some NBA experience that they could just walk out there and dominate, but whatever it was they looked terrible. Especially Anthony.

Anthony picking up where he left off at the end of last season, hogging the ball and putting up bad shots. If I were the coach, I’d make them throw three passes every possession before taking a shot unless they have an open layup.

I agree with your and ML6s critiques but I think it also points out that we often tend to significantly overestimate our young, mostly unknown players based on how likable they are and how much “potential” we think they have.

In fairness it wasn’t worded very well. You could interpret it either way.

It’s seasonal. Right now it’s Summer, and as always, hope springs eternal. There are new players, even more than usual this year, a new coach, and everyone is just oozing potential. A few months from now, if we start off 10-30 for example which is a distinct possibility, the calls to start tanking for the next great hope will start, and comments regarding the front office may be less enthusiastic.

I’m worried about him setting a bad example by being a ball hog. If you’re trying to create a mindset of team basketball which requires you to trust your teammates, a guy who always thinks that his shot is a better option than anyone else’s is the opposite of what you want.

I wouldn’t consider that tanking at all. I hope we try to win every single game but that does not mean putting players at increased risk.

Let us see where we are at game 50 or so and then we can continue the discussion. I agree that right now, unlike last time, I don’t see a commitment to a long term tank. Yet. But if we’re, for example, 15-35, we will be looking at calls from most here to tank again and we get back into the same cycle. I stand by my comment about most of the team being the same. It’s true that we won’t be playing some of the g-leaguers that we played at the end of last year, but they were only getting a fraction of the minutes compared to the guys still on the team.

Not correct. You can't just turn off a tank. You have mostly the same players who you tanked with still on the team.

Ummm. Let's see how the rebuild goes before we make any claims on the success of our strategy. No one has ever said that tanking won't get you better draft picks. What we have said is that the overall process usually doesn't lead to success because your team is so bad that even getting a good draft pick or two doesn't change the overall picture. There is also the issue of a losing culture and not developing your young players properly. I'm glad we got what we perceive as good draft selections right now. I hope we'll field a good team this year and not be looking at more calls for tanking after 50 games or so of the upcoming season, but I'm not too confident it will work out that way.

Traded it for a future second and $$

We thought the old group had a lot of potential also. We are going to lose a lot of games this season. Whether we can gel into something good or great remains to be seen. I hope we do and I hope it’s fun to watch, but history has taught me not to count on these things happening. It will be a wait and see approach for me.
