    2018 NBA Draft Thread

We have a lousy team that will probably be reeling into a demoralized summer if they lose out as all you guys hope. I guess the lesson that’s it’s not so easy to just “turn off” the losing hasn’t sunk in yet, even after six years. Maybe it will in another six.

So this is the last four day break between games for the season. The remaining nine are mostly every other day with, I believe, one back to back.

    2018 NBA Draft Thread

Teams that have drafted 1-4 the past two years are Brooklyn (didn’t keep picks), Philly, LA, and Phoenix. Other than Philly, who put their fans through some really bad years and now are in the playoffs, not sure what tanking has done for the others, who remain terrible. Minnesota had at least 12 bad years in a row, got a few high picks eventually, and now after all that time are 7th seed in the playoffs. Hardly seems like a direct route to prosperity.

Very much agree with the last paragraph, and most of the first. Starting next year, I think the lottery system changes so that the bottom 7 teams have an equal chance of getting any of the first 7 picks. Hopefully that wil end this idiotic competition to see who can lose the most games.

Don’t forget that having the worst record doesn’t even come close to guaranteeing that you get first pick. Less than 50% that you get even top 2. Next year those odds will go down further.

Nope. That's not right, you're confused on this issue. Look, it's fine to disagree with Lowe/Clifford and explain your reasoning. I might even agree with you on some of it. But it's not ok to say that their opinion is no good because they don't fly F-35's or because they wear glasses. Those statements have absolutely nothing to do with the issue being discussed, and shouldn't be brought up at all. The same applies as to whether they've won any championships. There is a difference between relevant and irrelevant.

Wish we had used some of the picks we traded away this year. We could be seeing if they had anything instead of watching these marginal guys on 10 day contracts (maybe Purvis is worth a look but the others haven't been)

+1 from me. Agree with all that also.
  9. Tanking has got us where we are today. Period. It's far from a guaranteed strategy for success. In fact it's a very high risk strategy that can lead to disaster when it doesn't work, and it often doesn't work.

Truly said. Almost every team looks like a playoff team against us.

Yeah better odds but look what we did to get them. This team has hit rock bottom. No telling how long we'll be terrible. I certainly wouldn't count on a high draft pick to get us out of this. I wouldn't count on a combo of Gordon/Isaac either.

You don't reverse 5 years of losing in two weeks. But we were looking better until Vuch came back. We've been awful ever since.

What changed is that Vuch came back. I wouldn't count on that "great draft pick". Odds are always way against you. You can hope to win the lottery but it's not good to plan on it.

Can we call him "the Purv"? Oh wait.....that doesn't sound right.

Be nice if we could just concede the rest of the games in order to spare the fans from having to watch any more of this. Our tankers should be thrilled though. Maybe we can get history to repeat itself and get another Shaq.

Doesn’t make it untrue, either. It basically has no relevance at all.

    Wow. That is impressive.
  20. Again I was responding to those who advocate tanking (losing as many games as possible) as our best strategy for the remainder of this season. It was not based on whether we intentionally tried to lose a particular game. Having said that, I think a team that was interested in winning and developing winning habits would bench guys who aren’t giving effort on defense.
  21. We know yours too. It’s brought us six years of futility. I’ll support my point of view in response to those who advocate tanking. That’s kind of what this forum is for.
  22. I think there are things we could try but overall you’re not wrong.
  23. I agree with almost all of your post. Where we differ is that I would get Vuch our of the starting lineup and start Birch to see if it makes any difference. I would try to win games and develop the team.
  24. We will get a reasonably high draft pick and probably be having this same discussion this time next year about why we need to tank again for whoever the “savior du jour” is at the time. Apparently some haven’t yet learned that it’s much easier to make a team terrible than it is to turn it off and make them unterrible. All you’re doing here is taking a team that doesn’t know how to win and further reinforcing those losing habits. Oh and you’re also teaching Isaac how to lose. You don’t want to do the hard work of developing a team. Still looking for the magic shortcut.
