You mean his 33.7% 3pt percentage last year? Honestly I think we badly overrate Mario. He was so bad during his first two years with us that if he even looks semi-competent, we think he’s great. I’m not sure how much interest he’ll have from anyone, including us.
-
He’ll need the sense of humor if he’s playing on the Magic
-
And you should see their size. Every one of them has extremely long arms....

The problem is that you can’t look at defense in isolation. Yes if our guys are all set up in theory they might be tough, although we’ve had athletic young players before who never jelled together on defense. But when you miss tons of shots, the other teams gets going on fast breaks and your defense doesn’t get set, so bad offense can lead to bad defensive outcomes also. I don’t really understand single mindedly drafting players who are long but can’t shoot. Is that the direction the league is going in, having a lot of mediocre shooters on the floor who in theory can play defense? Is that what’s getting teams to the playoffs? I guess I just don’t see the FO vision right now. I hope it becomes clearer over the next few months.

Maybe the Magic will take too long or something and forfeit their pick. All this fantastic discussion could be for naught.

Very hard to envision an even worse mess than we’ve made of the last 6 years, so I’m going to disagree with that last part of your post.

What a horrible core. It may not be our money. It doesn’t matter. Businesses analyze their results all the time. Ultimately a business with poor results will make changes: sell, go out of business (won’t happen to an NBA franchise), move, or something. The idea that they can afford it so they’ll be willing to just keep shoveling in the money is probably not correct.

Yeah. Fans should always be satisfied with a lousy product. Who do they think they are?
-
Problem with that is that there are also plenty of guys who in hindsight one might wish we got rid of earlier, including Vuch and EP. You can't really look after the fact at one particular player and generalize that what happened to him would also happen to everyone else. There are tons of examples of "busts" where teams overpaid players and wound up regretting it.

I’m not excited by that prospect either. Definitely a risk. If he makes good strides over the next couple of years it’s a big win. If he doesn’t, we have another untradeable player on a long contract that hurts us.

If we wanted to stay bad to mediocre, why not just keep Vogel? It’s costing them millions extra to pay 2 coaches. They must think Clifford will be better in some way. Not sure what it is, though.

I can pretty much guarantee that we’ll have a new coach by the beginning of October, no matter how calm and calculated they are.
-
Normally I agree with you but the Magic have just gone through 4 coaches in 5 years, at least two of whom were fairly well regarded. I can sure understand why an established coach wouldn’t jump at the chance to sign on with us.

Another comment with zero substance. You got anything at all besides insults? -
Pizza and wings should do the trick :) All he needs to do is spend a week or so with me and I’ll put some weight on him.

Probably mostly smoking/drinking. All this losing doesn’t give them much motivation to work on their games in the off-season. -
Ah. I see. Thanks for the clarification.

? Donovan Mitchell is 21

Not surprised. Team is painful to watch -
Hear hear. +1 from me. And while we’re at it, I’ll echo what Photographer has been saying. Build a culture where anyone, not just Vuch, who doesn’t play their hardest on defense gets to sit on the bench. Make everyone accountable.

Oladipo 5-20. Lebron played 46 minutes.

Not too optimistic. He’s another guy who I think tries to do too much when there isn’t a definite go-to guy. -
Or they’re there for fine wine, good food, and a nice vacation but they had to watch at least one game so they can write the trip off as a business expense :)
-
Or that they needed a vacation after watching the Magic this season. I'm just not sure that Europe is far away enough.
