The Cavs are getting the benefit of the whistle on their end but when we get fouled the refs swallow their whistle. If they would call the game evenly we wouldn’t have such a big free throw discrepancy between the 2 teams. That’s basically the difference in the game right now and the fact we are making silly turnovers.

WCJ not providing anything on offense and his defense has been subpar on Allen. We should put Goga in there to give the defense some rim protection and physicality in the paint. Allen is getting whatever he wants down low.

I agree. Also seeing the ball go into the basket may do wonders for this young team. Paolo is cooking tonight and after reading that article on ESPN about him I can tell he was ready for this moment.

Wow I’m speechless! Let’s take this momentum and change the series around.

I’d love those signings. I was asking to trade for Monk last offseason and Hartenstein is a great starting big but I doubt NY lets him go.

WCJ underwhelming again as well as GH. When we get some competent pieces on this team we will take the next step. Either way I’m proud of our guys for stepping up and making a statement. Hopefully we can keep it up in the 2nd half.

WCJ is soft. How does he have DM on him and not post him up and ask for the ball?
-
Finally Cole Anthony makes something!

Fultz gets all the way to the rim and instead of attempting a layup he kicks it out. Why is he even on the floor if he refuses to be aggressive on the offensive end?

WCJ needs to be benched and Goga needs to come into the game and give us some physicality on the defensive end. I’m tired of WCJ playing like this is another regular season game.

For those who did not read the post, this is in reference to an earlier post where I said AB does not have playoff experience.
Many times I have posted negative comments about Cole, calling him "black hole Cole", "ball hog," etc. I still feel that way about him. /pause.
AB played well in about 2 games in the regular season. Except for the beginning of the regular season, he stood in the corner while Franz and Paolo were the primary ball handlers.
Cole has made some 3's throughout the regular season. I think AB made about 2 the entire season.
I am at a loss because none of our point guards have been impressive this season as a floor general.
Ummm AB made like 4 three’s in one game lol. As the season progressed he was a lot more confident in his corner 3 point shot. I think you’re severely undervaluing his offensive game.

14 hours ago, TrueMagicFan07 said:Either way, we've got a problem, OnlyFranz. AB is a point guard who is a good defender, but point guards traditionally help with scoring and AB is not good at scoring. Look at other point guards around the league who are in the playoffs right now. They score more than a couple of points per game. On the other hand, Cole is not a good defender and is inconsistent offensively.
I don’t agree with your take on AB. He’s a decent finisher around the rim, a good defender, and he isn’t scared to take a 3 when it’s within the flow of the offense and he actually makes them. He also looks to get others involved offensively instead of looking for his shot all the time like Cole. Idk I feel like we need to shake things up because what we’ve been doing the last 2 games hasn’t been working.

19 hours ago, All Eyes On Me said:I agree with most of your post. I’m not sure if Goga will help because anything he’d bring on defense would hinder the offense even further. I also don’t see any way we bench Cole for a rookie, when he’s hitting shots, he’s too good to bench in our current roster. If we win the game tomorrow it’s because Cole woke up.
If we’re hellbent on playing a 10 man rotation then AB should get Fultz’ minutes for sure, but I’d argue we’d be better off just absorbing those minutes into starters and playing a 9 man rotation.
I’m also more optimistic than I probably should be since the first 2 games felt so insurmountable, but game 2 quarters 2-4 we won 68-66 and game 1 quarters 2-4 we lost 64-57. As has been the story for the last month, slow starts are KILLING us. We need to throw WCJ back in to start. I’d be ok going big and starting JI and benching GH, but Isaac and his help defense tendencies is really hurting us when he plays the 5.
I get what you’re saying about Goga’s offensive liability however WCJ is not contributing on either end of the floor. I’d rather give Goga a shot and see if he can slow down Allen because we can’t continue letting him grab 20 rebounds and expect to win many games.
I’d play Cole on a short leash tonight. If he comes out flat and continues with his shooting woes and terrible defense I’d put AB in there and switch things up. Maybe he will bother Garland enough to where they need to force everything through DM and I’ll live with those results especially since Suggs would be the one to mostly guard him.
I hope we can show some signs of life tonight and make this a competitive game at home.

People who keep saying we just need to hit our shots don’t understand where this team got most of their looks from during the season. We are a team that thrives in the paint and get most of our shots from that area along with getting to the free throw line. Cleveland has 2 big men that are very good at protecting the paint and grabbing defensive/offensive boards. Thus severely impacting the good looks we got throughout the regular season.
We were also one of the worst 3 point shooting teams this year which is why Cleveland is allowing us to shoot from 3 because they know we can’t hit those shots.
The refs are also not calling as many fouls which is also affecting us especially Paolo because he would get to the line repeatedly during the regular season. Cleveland’s length is really bothering our main interior scoring threats Paolo and Franz. Even Markelle who hasn’t tried to finish at the rim even though he gets deep into the paint. He just kicks it out to the open man at the 3 point line.
If we want any chance to make this series competitive game 3 is a must win at home. We need to counter their length and physicality by starting Goga at the 5 and WCJ at the 4. Goga is a much more physical player than Wendell and I feel he matches up better against Allen. Wendell is mobile enough to guard Mobley and has length to contest his shot and make it difficult for him if he tries to post up.
Moving JI to the bench would also help cover the defensive deficiencies that unit has and you can stagger his minutes to also play with the first unit if needed. I’m also for AB taking all of Cole’s minutes because he is a good defender and plays within the flow of the offense unlike black hole Cole. Hell give Howard some minutes to see if he can be an offensive spark for us and hit some shots.
Just some thoughts on how we can try and turn this series around. Let’s see what Mosley does with his rotations for game 3.

I wonder what Jay will have to say about the way our guys are playing again. Like I said during game 1 it’s a wrap. You can’t make wide open 3’s you don’t win in this league simple as that. Wash, rinse, and repeat with these forgettable performances. It’s a shame this FO didn’t at least add some shooting at the trade deadline.

I’d put JI on Mitchell and live with the results, make the other players beat you.

Yes it’s a wrap. You’ve been delusional for years thinking the Magic are better than they really are. Until we get better guard play you can expect the same results every time. Also don’t be a condescending p r i c k and tell me who I need to cheer for.

That’s a wrap folks. Free agency can’t come soon enough. Weltman better make some changes to this roster and not continue being complacent.

If it wasn’t evident before GH needs to go along with Cole Anthony and I’d include Fultz in this group as well. We desperately need to upgrade our guard play.

They’ve taken JI out of the game by forcing him to help and then passing to the guy cutting right down the lane. It’s hurting us and no adjustments are being made to guard the cutter.

Fultz needs to stop passing the ball when he makes it all the way to the rim. Lay it up and either finish or draw the foul.

He isn’t intentionally guarding him. Cavs are using the pick and roll to get the mismatch with Cole and then let Mobley abuse him.

We have a series ladies and gentlemen! I hope we carry this momentum and steal the next game in Cleveland. It would be beautiful to close out this series at home.
