I only watch a bit and read stuff, I'm by no means an expert but I'll try my best to answer.

Their ceilings are all really high. That's why this class is so hyped. Whether or not they achieve those ceilings is another thing entirely. So the consensus top 5 seems to be:

    Cade

    Mobley

    Kuminga

    Green

    Suggs

I think Cade is the most sure thing but I wouldn't say he has the highest ceiling because he doesn't have the elite athleticism but I think his upside is still perennial all-star big guard/wing initiator. It's just whether he can be an efficient high volume scorer in a league where he can't just overpower everyone who guards him to put him into that kind of "championship calibre" bracket. He's already shown he's a great shot maker though which is massive.

Mobley I think has DPOY potential. He's 7 feet tall and I've seen him force guards to pick the ball up with his lateral quickness. It's his lack of strength and high center of gravity that could hold him back, he doesn't get a lot of rebounds for a guy his size because of that. And obviously whether or not he gets his 3 point jumper down will go into deciding his offensive ceiling because he's not got a tonne of ways to score right now that will translate to the NBA. I've also seen people suggest he sometimes looks like he's coasting which is not always something you want to hear but I can't speak to that much really.

Kuminga I guess the hope is he's like a do it all two way wing who explodes to the rim on offense and can also play defense with his length and athleticism. The decision making and the jumpshot seem like the biggest swing factors to me though I haven't seen as much of him and his statistical profile isn't great.

Green I've seen compared to Zach Lavine which I guess makes sense as they're both 2 guards with explosive athleticism. Green could be a really big time scorer in the NBA in my opinion but he needs to improve his decision making, shot selection and defense to really be a star. With guys like Green I always think there's a fine line between being a perennial All Star scorer and one of those JR Smith style gunners and it usually comes down to efficiency and being able to make plays for others.

Suggs is an explosive guard and he's playing on the best team in college basketball. He's got a streaky jumper and Im not sure he's as good a ball handler as you'd like him to be but he's fun to watch, makes the right plays, plays defense. He might end up being more of a second star on a great team at his ceiling though.

Thanks for taking the time to answer that. It does seem like those five are the top 5 but based on the needs of the Magic only 3 of those make sense for us to draft (Cade, Green, Kuminga). Fingers crossed for a top 3 pick to guarantee it.

Rough show from Jalen Green last night. 0-7 from 3, 6TOs and a game low -28.

Meanwhile Cade had 24 and 7 with 4/8 from 3 against the second best team in college basketball.

In your opinion what do you think the ceiling is for the consensus top 5?

For example I see Cade as a perineal all star, all nba and potential best player on a championship contender.

As someone who seems to know a lot about this draft it would be interesting to hear your opinion for what they have shown so far

The Kings are a perfect trade partner. They hit on the late lottery last year with Halliburton. Fox is getting a raise of about 20 million next year but they were smart and the contracts of Hield and Barnes lower each year by 2 million. They have several expiring contracts so they could just sit tight or maybe trade Bjelica and Whiteside. Finally, Cory josephs contract is only partially guaranteed next year. It's a 2.4 million buyout. Right now they are 4-5 games out of the 8th seed. Now the question is what do they want to do?

Two franchises, we could switch pieces easily and both try to compete next year, or one franchise can reset. I can see a few trades where we both switch a few players and go for it, or one side just gives in for that sweet lottery pick from the other side. In just one of about 4 different trades i can see them wanting Vucevic, but kiss that 2021 pick goodbye. I can see them giving up on Hield for salary relief. I can see them trading Barnes for a better defense. So much potential. Surely we could make a trade with them that works for both teams.

Edit. They will most certainly make a trade. I only bring them up because they seem like the west coast version of the Magic. I didn't realize how many affordable contracts they have, or that Joseph's contract was only partially guaranteed. Both Holmes and Whiteside are cheap expiring centers. Barnes is playing great this year. They might try for a big contract, they could certainly use Vucevic.

If we want another pick in this draft then trading with the kings is probably our best option

Ha, i doubt it. The current team reminds me of the 2017 team, just awful with lot's of Vucevic. The Magic won 25 games in 2017 and statistically were one of the worst 3 teams in the league all season, by point differential. That year Vogel played Vucevic 20 straight games after he returned from a hand injury. He finally relented and rested our All-Star Center the final 6 games but we still won 3 out of 6. This was last time the Wizards went to the playoffs and we somehow beat them on the last day of season. The loss dropped them into the eight seed and pushed us out of the top 3 in the lotto.

Why did i type this? Because that was the draft we dropped to 6th and picked Bamba. Now what is even worse is it might have been a blessing. Except our GM is a moron. Everyone knew the Magic needed a point guard. Once we dropped it was obvious we weren't going to get Trea so every single website, draft guru, sports reporter mocked us taking Bamba. Why i'll never understand. How was the 3rd best center in the draft supposed to help the Magic? I understand best player available but the 3rd worst at a single position? Ridiculous! And our GM's fell for it because they are frauds! They just make picks based on tallness and length! That is how they got lucky picking Giannis at number 15!

All they had to do is draft the second ranked point guard and we would be light years ahead right now. Shai Gilgis-Alexander! Yeah i know Collin Sexton was mocked higher on some sites but most experts saw him as more of a combo guard/shooter.

TL;DR . I have no faith in our front office no matter which pick we get. They should have taken Sexton or Shai 3 years ago, instead they took Bamba.

The best pick the Magic have made in 10 years was pick number 12, Domantas Sabonis, and most likely we were told to pick him by Sam Presti.

I get your point about our GMs ability to evaluate draft talent but I’d rather be picking 6th or higher in this draft than lose a play-in game

Personally I'm not interested unless the price is really low. We have enough health problems without adding another perennially injured guy.

I appreciate that you are hesitant about adding an injury prone player but with our current lack of star quality I’d be willing to take the risk. Especially with his size, mobility, shooting (although it hasn’t been great this season) and defensive upside. Also fits with the timeline of our younger players

Honestly not, but I know it's just my opinion and can't be confirmed. As yours actually. :)
But it's actually quite a fact the thing that none of the recent champions, were champions with a player with the characteristic of Vuch at center. That's why I was talking about playing the style that works in the actual NBA. It's not the time of Hakeem, Pat, Shaq, anymore.
Apart from that, you can't change Vuc fo Zaza straight up, in the sense that if you've Vuch, you also have his salary. and you've to renounce to something else.

I apologize to have gone a little off topic, but the most important point for me is still:

    A) if management think, like you, that Vuc could be a good piece in a contender/championship team, do everything you could to surround him with another all-star and the right kind of players to complement him. What are they waiting for? He's not getting any younger.

    B) if management think, like me, that he's not that kind of player, just sell him as high as possible and choose another path.

I could live with solution A, even if I don't agree with that. But staying in the middle, not taking any decision, and condemn us to mediocrity... that's something I couldn't accept at all. STOP the evaluating process please.

I hate the middle of the road approach we are taking as a potential 7/8th seed and would prefer if management went one way or another. Even if it didn’t work out at least show some aggression.

This, for me, is the same old illusion that will never happen. They don't need that kind of center at all, they already have a good center that fits perfectly with all the other pieces, and when they wanted one of a different kind (offensive minded), they signed Kanter for cheap. They also have a couple of young bigs that could grow into a bigger role.

Also, I'm still confident that Boston will win even if they're down 0-2.

I think Vuc is bigger than Theis and more mobile and better defensively than Kanter imo (also stretches the floor better) and there was rumoured interest from them before

If we keep Vooch, there’s no way we’re going for a hard reset. My gut says we try and trade Gordon and Fournier (if he opts in).

Agreed. I feel that Vuc’s value is never going to be higher than it is now so if we’re going to trade him it would be between the end of the season and the trade deadline.
