AG finally accepting his role in the NBA. all those wasted years of him and the Magic trying to make him a franchise player we’re just bad.

Tbf with the players we had at the time it doesn’t surprise me that he would think he would be better and try to have a bigger role in Orlando

Ok so, I was thinking about this when I typed up the Jabari stuff because i had a moment where I was like "do I want us to pick Jabari?"

First of all, it's not really for me to say whether he'll be an injury risk. NBA teams have high paid medical staff that deal with that type of stuff so if we're confident enough to pick him that's good enough for me. All I know is he's been playing at the highest level possible for his age for a long time and he's never had a serious injury.

Second, his biggest issue is something that virtually every NBA player has done after coming into the league and it's add weight. I think it's a LOT more likely that Chet can add 30lbs then it is for Jabari to suddenly be able to handle the ball like Paul George or for Paolo Banchero to go from being a bad defender to a good one.

This might be misguided but I also think the addition of strength and muscle in Chet's case could be real low hanging fruit for his development in several areas.

If you think about how skinny he currently is I don't think it's misguided to believe that a little more muscle could make him more explosive which, combined with added core strength (allowing him to better deal with bumps as he drives to the hoop) could really improve his ability to attack a defense in the half court.

It should also improve his jumper. His jumper is fine but a bit streaky but one place he struggled all season as a shooter (in very limited sample size) was as a Pick and Pop shooter. My theory is because the negative momentum of the stepping back doesn't allow him to generate the motion he needs to get his jumper off accurately but with added strength that should hopefully be less of an issue and he has a lot of other skills to make him an excellent weapon as a pick and pop threat.

And if he adds that pick and pop play down he's an incredibly offensively versatile prospect. He can pick and roll, he's an excellent catch and finish guy for the dunker spot, he can spot up in the corners, he's a solid trail man to step into shots at the top of the key, he can pass which means he should fair pretty well as a short roll weapon, he has the handle to be someone who can attack closeouts and he can push the ball in transition. That's just a lot of stuff he can do on the offensive end even if what he can't do is just create offense out of nowhere. It's a very funky thing to comp as they're not really similar but I think about what Bam Adebayo contributes to the Heat offense as a passer and playmaker and a short roll threat and Chet could be that but also be able to shoot the 3 as well to provide more spacing.

Defensively he's already a very exciting package but the added strength will allow him to take more contact in his chest whilst remaining vertical making him an even more complete rim protector and it'll also help him battling in the post (which he honestly wasn't bad at in college but I can understand the concern as he comes into the NBA).

And even if he never is a great post defender, that's not really a problem for us we have WCJ and, more importantly, how many bigs are adequately equipped to punish him in the post anyway? Like at least half the bench bigs in the league are players I'd be ecstatic to see trying to run a half court post up against Chet. Nobody's saying "oh we need to watch out for the Javale McGee post up". Which means you can play him at the 4 with WCJ or at the 5 against benches just fine.

So to sum up, biggest issues all stem from his weight and strength which in my opinion is an easier fix than most other prospects issues. That combined with the fact that he offers legitimate game changing defense and real offensive versatility right now at his current weight is enough for me.

(There's a chance this post makes no sense and/or is a rambly mess I'm running on like 4 hours sleep)

I think that's an interesting way of looking at it. Also to add Jabari to me is a 6"10 Aaron Gordon with a better 3pt shot. He'll be a good pro (maybe even all-star) but not franchise changing IMO

Most probably we will draft Chet, Jabari or Bancero with the top pick. But I am just thinking if we can make additional trade with Pistons or Kings and get their pick to draft Shaedon Sharp who has a huge upside in my opinion…

What would we have to give up in order to get their pick?

    Anthony?  Really??

Admire the optimism but I sure don’t see it.

I can see it. Edwards is a super explosive athlete and if he can improve his shooting he'll be great! As a second year player, already asserting himself as the alpha on the team that is now back in the playoffs in the west is no easy feat. And he talks a great game!!

I interpret this to mean we'll take him back if the price is right.

I think Weltmans assessment of Mo is fair. He's had a bunch of injuries and COVID. This is technically his first full year as a starter in the NBA and most of it has been without a legit PG until Fultz came back, on a team without many vets (who aren't competing for his starting spot). I would like to see him return next year for the right amount and see whether he can take the leap we need

I agree if he goes the way of almost every other player and wants the maximum bag. I just think it's possible he might want a choice. LaVine has been on the Wolves and Bulls. He is still pretty damn young. I don't think it's crazy he might look around and decide to play with a younger team. He is not a restricted agent, he can go anywhere. Just off the top of my head i know the Pistons,Spurs,Magic and maybe Portland could offer him a contract starting in the mid 30's that goes up every year. What if  he looks at the Spurs,Pistons or Magic and thinks they have a ton of young players he wants to grow with.

I would love for you to be right but I don't see it. He's probably at the point in his career where because he hasn't won much he wants to play with other all stars. Has he even played a playoff game yet? Best chance any team would have of getting him is if the Bulls get swept in the first round without putting up much of a fight...

This is the reason why we are going to have have to develop one of our young players into an all-star because we aren't a big free agent destination and to get all-star calibre players you need to have them first.

Doing some super early guess work about the offseason. LaVine is the only really blockbuster type free agent. You could throw in Beal,Kyrie and Harden but i expect all 3 of them to re-sign.

I wouldn't want any of them for obvious reasons. Big time headaches, all 3. I wouldn't mind Beal, but not in a sign and trade. He's gonna get that bag, way too much. Anyhow Lavine is the youngest of all of them and the only one i believe would sign with another team. He is a completely unrestricted free agent.

There is the list. We have a way to offer LaVine big money, it would involve dumping Bamba and a couple other players. In my mind this is the only move we could or should make to speed up our timeline. Only other thing i can possibly even imagine is a Mitchell trade but even then probably would not like what we would have to give up.

Other then that i'm not really big on free agents. If we don't do something big, we should retain Bamba, draft a big man and if we do draft a big man sign another guard. Sure would be nice to have an actual vet ball handler next year. Not another chucker like Ross. Somebody like Tyus jones. Yes i know we have a ton of guards, but none really create for the rest of the team except Fultz and Cole when he is feeling like it.

TL:DR. Don't want to make a splash in free agency unless it's for LaVine. Absolutley no sign and trades unless we are fleecing a dumb Gm. We have a ton of assets but must keep most of them.

I would love to have Lavine but I don't see why he would leave Chicago unless they try and low ball him?
