The best way for the Magic to start getting better is to acquire players already in the league. Players who other teams might not need or value enough. Players who have gotten to play in the league but have not broken out yet. I'm tired of draft picks, most of them take years to develop. Not saying i want us to trade away 4 or 5 picks but trading 1 to make a good deal is ok.

Lol this forum, so deluded. How about instead of joking about trading for Giannis i'll remind people from a few years back of another player. Does anyone remember when the Toronto was running it back year after year and people wondered if Lowry was worth trading for? Remember how so many people wouldn't trade any of our players for him? This guy just balled out the last two years, a true floor leader. He would have been perfect for this team the last 3 years, and he is not a superstar. He does have a ring as well, and it's just as much his ring as Kawhi's. I think some people on here don't watch enough basketball. The point i'm making is we have been overvaluing our players for years. Every single one of them was and is tradeable.

I think that article sums it up pretty good. There really isn't much management can do.

Um no i'm the dickhead who would trade everybody and blow the whole team up. What i said is what i think our actual management will do. I honestly think they will extend both Evan and Fultz before the season starts. If they do it cheap, i will get slightly excited because those guys on cheap contracts are assets. However, it's the NBA i doubt it.

Yeah it's a catch 22. I really like the guys in this draft with lower ceilings but higher floors. Players like Vassell, Okongwu, Nesmith. I feel like the forwards and wings in this draft have less bust potential but less upside. So if we draft a mediocre forward it's same old same old when we really need scoring guards. I have serious doubts about most of the guards, although if we had the number 1 pick i think we would have no choice, draft Edwards.

Exactly, because honestly of all the bad contracts given out the year Evan signed he honestly is the one most likely to opt out. If you look around at all the others those players have no shot to get that money back. Evan can go out and get a 50 million dollar deal from someone. Not Batum,Porter,Drummond...etc. I figured if he opted out it would be about wanting to leave Orlando, but the house rumor has me perplexed.

The biggest problem with Evan is the same the last 3 years. We have neither drafted a clear replacement, nor have we traded for one, unless you count Ross. Management could easily see a cheaper Evan as better then no Evan, and they would be right to a certain degree. I could get behind a 12 million dollars a year Evan, for a very simple reason. At that price he is an asset. He is still young, and he can hit 3's and also handle the ball a little bit. Plus he is 6'7. In fact i think the most likely thing we do in the off season is sign Evan and offer Fultz an extension, no other changes except maybe getting Dj or MCW back. So my super early prediction. resign Evan, for what i hope will be a 4 year 50 million dollar contract but i think is closer to 62. Extend Fultz to a similar contract as Aaron Gordon also keep Gordon. Wait to extend Isaac, nobody is going to offer him a poison pill contract.

Yeah i saw this on another board....hold on to your horses i can see them resigning him. Just imagine our management offering 4 years for 60 million and being happy because he took a discount to stay.I can hear the story i my head, "Magics best shooter, buys mansion, takes discount to stay in the Central Florida!"

Only happened because Henny could not even pry that pick from Toronto, even though we gave up the better player. He might be the only sports executive i ever hated.

I'm purposely avoiding talking about the Bradley Beals of the world because everyone focuses on the next good player who might switch teams. You, don't have to get the free agent all-star or the second pick in the draft. You can make a move where you get a two for one pick or bring in a young player who maybe maybe was overlooked on another team. You keep talking about how rare it is to find these guys or get a "needle mover". I think your being disingenuous. I'm saying we are not even busting out the thimble and thread, not even trying. Holding onto guys who are never going to be anything. It's bad enough when the starters are mediocre but i think our bench has not had enough movement the last 8 years. What i'm trying to tell you is our bench needed to have seen more fresh faces, no matter where they came from. And yes, when we had contract messes, our gm's almost always handled it in the worst way. The whole Biyombo/Mozgov situation, no imagination just a huge hit for a contract people knew was bad the minute it was signed. Meanwhile In a way both the Lakers and the Nets got something out of trading that same contract. I can do this all day going back to Arenas/Lewis trade. I think the only trade we actually won going all the way back to Steve Francis was the Dwight trade, which we did win. And then proceeded to either sit on or mismanage every asset we got form that trade! I know this is all beating a dead horse, but i'm sorry next stupid thing we do i think i'm out. I'm guessing the next thing is giving Fultz a 20 million dollar a year extension before we even see him play next year.

It's all relative, just a few seasons ago, the Heat had at least 2 or 3 bad contracts. They had just lost two old Hall of Famers, one they had to convince to retire, one that wouldn't retire. It took Riley about 2 and a half seasons to completely turn over the roster. Other teams that almost completely turned over the roster in the last 3 years: Pacers,Knicks,Thunder,Rockets,Dallas,Clippers,Memphis,New Orleans,Lakers and to a lesser extent, Suns,Jazz,Kings and Minnesota. I know people are going to say half those teams had a star to trade, or got lucky with a draft pick or something like that. I know some of you will say some of those teams were not succesful. Trust me, all of these teams were either forced to change or were proactive about it. Time to stop just hoping to get lucky. Serious how long has AG,Evan and Vucevic played here and in all those years where are the undrafted or second round players every other team comes up with to even challenge the starters for minutes. We can't even get the Alec Burkes of the world, or get lucky with a landry Shamet. We don't need world beaters but like someone else said i'm tired of projects.

Yeah we'll he sounds good in theory, 20 plus point per game scorer, great size and athleticism. It's almost one of the most interesting things i want to see next season. Can the Warriors culture change this kid. It's just easier to understand that at some point somebody is going to get traded from that team.

The Warriors hold their own pick this year, which is number 2. They have Minnesota's top 3 protected pick for next year.

Exactly the reason why, if they trade it will most likely include either Draymonds or Wiggins salary. And if they are smart it will be multiple players instead of one big contract. Which puts us in the mix, with either Evan,Gordon or even Vucevic. Gordon's and Vucevic's contracts get lower each year and Fourniers would be an expiring helping their cap in the future. I could see us as a 3rd team enabling them to get off Wiggins contract while getting cost controlled pieces. I like that you noticed that they might not want to pay a rookie all that money. Better to trade that contract for a veteran if it's the right one.

    2020 Official Off-Season Thread

So your saying the Warriors are going to trade two number one picks, and all we have to do is pick up an expiring contract.....who will play next year and isn't injured? Magic front office couldn't sign off on this trade fast enough. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Had to edit, after reading this article you misunderstand. If it did happen, The Warriors would keep this years pick and trade next years T-wolves pick and Johnson for help. which i could see them doing. Next years Wolves pick could be anywhere, but i would guess late lottery.

I don't know man, i got a wicked charlie horse this morning and not one team has called me today. Anyhow there is not one player on this team i wouldn't trade if we could get back picks, a young player and a better fit. Not all three in one trade, just in general.

    2020 Official Off-Season Thread

Man if only Gordon had stayed healthy and balled out in the bubble. I could have easily imagined the Suns giving up one of their young forwards and this years pick for Aaron.

    2020 Official Off-Season Thread

Yeah even with the contract Vucevic is our most valuable player, it's not even close. If we hear anything about him moving i think it means a rebuild. Not a bad year to do it, so i wouldn't be upset. The only team i can even imagine trading for him is the Celtics to get rid of Heyward and lock up an all star center. However you just can't sell that to the general public. Gordon isn't going anywhere now, and i do hope he is healthy. It's just timing, at the February deadline i thought he had very high trade value, but of course Isaac and Aminu were injured so we could't do it. Now, with regards to the injury and cap and situations, there isn't a high enough value to trade him. To be clear even if we traded Vucevic and Evan and started a rebuild, his value will be higher in the middle of next season. I think the last good trade we could have done vanished when the T-wolves won the Lotto. Also when the Suns went ballistic in the bubble. Before the injuries those two teams more then any other needed an athletic, defensive power forward to complement a good young core. Now too risky for them.

This guy gets it. Clearly at one point we had the assets to get a star, we don't anymore. After all two of our players were traded to get Paul George. Our first round picks were very valuable during the rebuild, don't let anyone fool you, they could have been traded. We just didn't trade them the right way. Anyhow on to the future. We need to start making little moves to clear up our cap. It's gonna be a long fall so i'll be in this thread making suggestions and listening to other posts. However as boring as it sounds, i cannot see us making even one trade. We won't know for a long time if Evan is going to opt out, because of the messed up off season. Ross is probably one of 2 remaining players we could trade, but how can we if we don't have a starting SG? So scratch him off the list. All of our Forwards have serious injuries. I think the Gordon injury was the ironic end to all his trade talk. Bamba has no value right now i would think, it has to be rebuilt. Obviously Futlz won't be traded but if you think about it his trade value is almost zero. A team trading for him knows he has to be resigned and has a gigantic qualifying offer/cap hold number. Chuma has no value, only as an add on to make money fit. Vucevic is a top 5 center his numbers don't lie, he is really good. If i try really hard i can imagine some trade scenarios. However i just can't see our front office doing it, we still have to field a team next year. So in essence, be prepared for a very boring off season.
