Over all it is not an awful move, since he will be coming off the books next year, and could be an ok bench player if healthy- but he has only played 63 games the past 2 years and Detroit has been trying to get rid of him. We should have gotten more, I think.
-
This trade doesn't make much sense to me. Why did we just take on more salary without giving any back? Probably doesn't hurt us much either way if we are punting getting a real max player for next year, but you think we could at least get rid of some dead weight- or get something back for getting that salary off of Detroit's books. Are we just Detroit's landfill now, where they throw unwanted players?

I like that plan. A lot better than the Barnes plan.

Yeah, and the "he looks old" is a really bad reason to believe these rumors. I have known many people who look "younger' than their age, "older" than their age, or "of indeterminable" age.

I agree, but I also recognize that I am a fan of the magic who does not necessarily view Magic players in an unbiased manner. The good thing about the comment was that it was from a writer not connected to the magic. Last year you could see the potential- it just was one of those times it didn't turn into results.

So I was reading the Ringer (Bill Simmons' new site) and they made the comment on the Oladipo/Ibaka trade that this was, in a way, going all in on Mario. The interesting part was where they made the comment that Mario would have been a top two pick in this year's draft. Is this a statement on the huge amount of potential that Mario has, or the weakness of this draft? -Side note, Mario should petition the NBA to change his profile photo- that photo they have of him is just awful.

If people take the short view, it looks poor as it will look like we got nothing out of the trade. However, if we do not sign anyone of merit, we should still have cap space to go after at least one max contract next year- and, if we do not resign Ibaka (hopefully he gives us reason to) we can sign 2 players to max contracts. The problem will be if we sign a player to a max contract that is of equal or lesser talent than Harris.
-
I am wondering why you seem to think Ibaka is so much better. He has pretty much been exactly what you have been slamming Oladipo for, an at best 3rd best player. I really hope for the sake of the magic that he lives up to your expectations.

It is always hard to measure how good fans are. I would say magic fans are probably in the middle somewhere.
-
How many fans have been talking about how Oladipo sucked or wasn't that good, either since he was traded or even when he was on the team? I mean, some of the criticism is/ was true- but seriously, two way street. You can't write about how much better we are without him and then get salty when he calls another group of fans the best fans in the world. It goes for all players that move to other teams. Serge Ibaka will probably say something similar at some point.
-
And Serge Ibaka will?
-
Wait, did you just call Fournier a consistent player? Because Fournier is, and has never been a consistent player.
-
Those were probably the two best lines.

Man, that bad translation is amusing.
-
Cool. Canada actually has a fairly good national team.
-
Rebounds. Just used google translate.

Yeah, smarter works. The trade at least makes sense, even if I disagree with it. Signing Noah to the max is just ridiculous. If it was the Magic doing that, I would probably go absolute ape-**** crazy.
-
Definitely. They have some real good young talent. Might be the best Euro team in 3-5 years.
-
That's what I thought. Wow, it really is going to be awful. Probably not going to pay attention to it this year as best case for any of the guys playing this year will be end of bench/ d-league.
-
Not sure about "brilliant"....
-
The more teams that make bad moves like this the better for us- As long as we aren't one of those teams.
-
Is Mario even playing? Or is he playing with his national team?
-
Not to mention all of the times he has said nice stuff about guys right before trading them. Sports GMs unfortunately come off looking a little scummy because of this- even though it is necessary.
-
Doesn't mean we cannot get upset if the front office makes bad decisions. Telling people to R-E-L-A-X when they are coming here to gripe and complain is very unlikely to calm them down or make them pleased with the situation.
-
No, it wouldn't. 1. Mario could play alongside Oladipo as a Small forward. 2. If anyone was blocking his minutes it was Fournier. Just don't resign Fournier and you solve that problem. 3. Mario is still mostly potential. 4. I really liked Oladipo. I thought he was a quality guy and a pretty good player. 5. I am not really a fan of Ibaka. I think we could have done better. I will get over this trade eventually. It will take a while though.
