Also I'll just say Franz Wagner might go under the radar in this game because Paolo and Suggs were phenomenal. But Franz Wagner got those buckets for the Magic in the first when we started out struggling which gave us a boost and I thought he was excellent throughout. His defense was superb and he didn't force anything on offense, made some nice plays to get his teammates the ball.
All 3 of our top 3 guys showed up and it was wonderful to see.

Paolo cooked last night. There was a lot of yapping from some corners when he had turnover issues and inefficiencies in the first two games but I'm hearing a whole load of silence after he dominates. Almost like the people with these takes are operating in bad faith. (Not people on this board or even Magic fans just dumb "media" people)

We just won by 40. Why would we make any changes?
Wendell didn't show up in the box score but he was awesome I thought. Played really physical and didn't let the Cavs hit the offensive glass like they did in games 1 and 2.

This piece dropped today. Big feature on Paolo. It's good stuff. Definitely one for Magic fans to read. Given the closing lines though I feel like he absolutely needs to dominate tonight.

Cavs lead the series 2-0 but this is the first game at Kia Center. Magic are -1.5 point favorites.
Game is on NBATV in the US.
Projected starting lineups:
Cavs:
Darius Garland
Donovan Mitchell
Max Strus
Evan Mobley
Jarret Allen
Injury Report: Dean Wade, Ty Jerome, Craig Porter all OUT
Magic:
Jalen Suggs
Gary Harris
Franz Wagner
Paolo Banchero
Jonathan Isaac
Injury report: None (thankfully)
Let's get it!
(This thread isn't nearly as hype as a TMF made one so apologies for that but it's still somewhere to discuss the game)

if we went this route, I’d do:
Suggs- garland
JI- Mitchell
Franz- Strus
Paolo- Mobley
WCJ- Allen
You negate all of JIs help defensive impact by having him guard someone he can't help off of.

1 hour ago, All Eyes On Me said:Yeah, definitely get this thought process, but I’d be willing to risk it with the advantage it *should* present on the other side of the ball with Mitchell and Strus trying to guard Paolo and Franz.
Very true. Though I think the Cavs would cross match and have Strus guard Isaac and keep Mobley on Paolo.
Presents a decent opportunity for Isaac to get on the offensive glass but I think the Cavs would feel ok with that given they'd have Allen + Mobley down there to contest boards. Otherwise can't imagine the Cavs are concerned about Isaac post ups or anything.

12 minutes ago, All Eyes On Me said:I agree with most of your post. I’m not sure if Goga will help because anything he’d bring on defense would hinder the offense even further. I also don’t see any way we bench Cole for a rookie, when he’s hitting shots, he’s too good to bench in our current roster. If we win the game tomorrow it’s because Cole woke up.
If we’re hellbent on playing a 10 man rotation then AB should get Fultz’ minutes for sure, but I’d argue we’d be better off just absorbing those minutes into starters and playing a 9 man rotation.
I’m also more optimistic than I probably should be since the first 2 games felt so insurmountable, but game 2 quarters 2-4 we won 68-66 and game 1 quarters 2-4 we lost 64-57. As has been the story for the last month, slow starts are KILLING us. We need to throw WCJ back in to start. I’d be ok going big and starting JI and benching GH, but Isaac and his help defense tendencies is really hurting us when he plays the 5.
I've thought a lot about that Suggs/Franz/Paolo/Isaac/WCJ lineup to be the starters but my main concerns are:
Can Franz guard one of Garland or Mitchell?
Will Strus just kill us because Paolo can't chase him around screens?
-
Jalen Suggs is currently on the injury report as day to day.

Seeing a lot of people (brain dead morons) with "Paolo exposed"/"just Julius Randle"/"fake all star" takes on social media and from some terrible talking heads in podcasts and stuff.
Need a win and huge games from him in games 3 and 4 because I cant bare a whole summer of these takes.

1 hour ago, Soul Bro said:Lol. It’s now crystal clear that Franz and Paulo need to be surrounded by pure shooters. Not just at the guard position but all over the place.
I'd hope Paolo and Franz can be part of the solution too. Otherwise chances are they can't be successful together long term without a high level shooter at the 5 which is a difficult archetype to find given the defensive responsibility of the position.

D'Angelo Russell hit 7 3s in game 2.
I'm not even a fan of his really. But at this point we're so unbelievably desperate for some shot making I'll be thoroughly campaigning for us to go after him or anyone like him.
Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, the corpse of Klay Thompson, if you can shoot the ball at a high level we should be trying to trade for or sign you this off-season.

Honestly, just start Anthony Black. Like what's the worst that can happen? If he scores 2 points on 1/7 shooting he'd be having a better series than half of our roster and he'd play a damn sight better defense than half the roster too.

Jamal Murray is that dude.

8 hours ago, All Eyes On Me said:Looks like the draft tiebreakers were today. We’re picking 18. We were in a 4 way tie with Pacers, Lakers and 76ers for picks 16-19.
Can't even win a coin flip at the minute.
-
Can't shoot.
Dumb turnovers.
Getting out rebounded.
Paolo's defense is bad.
That's basically the story of the first two games.
There was actually a group of people on this board who did a victory lap when we didn't make a trade at the deadline and kept Markelle Fultz. How's that working out for us?
Maybe we make it a series at home but I've already got one eye on the off season. This is a big one. Biggest in some time.
-
I believe game 1 was literally the worst half court offensive performance the Magic have had all season. Surely we'll get some regression to the mean tonight? Just average shooting from Harris, Suggs, Cole etc and we give ourselves a chance.
-
Thanks TMF!
Let's say this is the Game 2 thread, I'd really like us to get separate threads for each game so I'll make make shift ones for games 3+ if needs be. They won't have all the pics and stuff though unfortunately.
-
If none of the guards are going to hit shots honestly I'd be interested in seeing Anthony Black get minutes. I doubt we'd do it but he literally cannot be worse as a shooter than what we got game 1.
-
Just now, TrueMagicFan07 said:Paolo and his bad passing. Why would you throw the ball across court with all of the other team's defenders between you and the teammate you are trying to throw the ball. smh
It was a fine pass to Jalen Suggs, why JI got involved I don't know. .
-
Y'all wanting Gary Harris out are insane. For who? There are two sides of the ball and nobody on that bench can guard Donovan Mitchell.
-
Gary Harris make a jumper challenge.
-
When Jalen plays with this fire is when he gets cooking. We're going to need him in this series.
-
We're playing like ass offensively though.

Except Wendell wasn't bad last night at all.
