  1. Also I'll just say Franz Wagner might go under the radar in this game because Paolo and Suggs were phenomenal. But Franz Wagner got those buckets for the Magic in the first when we started out struggling which gave us a boost and I thought he was excellent throughout. His defense was superb and he didn't force anything on offense, made some nice plays to get his teammates the ball.

All 3 of our top 3 guys showed up and it was wonderful to see.

We must really play Goga over Carter. I would also start AB over Harris. He would be better on D and on the offensive end.

We just won by 40. Why would we make any changes?

Wendell didn't show up in the box score but he was awesome I thought. Played really physical and didn't let the Cavs hit the offensive glass like they did in games 1 and 2.

  3. Cavs lead the series 2-0 but this is the first game at Kia Center. Magic are -1.5 point favorites.

Game is on NBATV in the US.

    Projected starting lineups:

    Cavs:

    Darius Garland

    Donovan Mitchell

    Max Strus

    Evan Mobley

    Jarret Allen

Injury Report: Dean Wade, Ty Jerome, Craig Porter all OUT

    Magic:

    Jalen Suggs

    Gary Harris

    Franz Wagner

    Paolo Banchero

    Jonathan Isaac

    Injury report: None (thankfully)

    Let's get it!

(This thread isn't nearly as hype as a TMF made one so apologies for that but it's still somewhere to discuss the game)

Yeah, definitely get this thought process, but I’d be willing to risk it with the advantage it *should* present on the other side of the ball with Mitchell and Strus trying to guard Paolo and Franz.

Very true. Though I think the Cavs would cross match and have Strus guard Isaac and keep Mobley on Paolo.

Presents a decent opportunity for Isaac to get on the offensive glass but I think the Cavs would feel ok with that given they'd have Allen + Mobley down there to contest boards. Otherwise can't imagine the Cavs are concerned about Isaac post ups or anything.

I agree with most of your post. I’m not sure if Goga will help because anything he’d bring on defense would hinder the offense even further. I also don’t see any way we bench Cole for a rookie, when he’s hitting shots, he’s too good to bench in our current roster. If we win the game tomorrow it’s because Cole woke up.

If we’re hellbent on playing a 10 man rotation then AB should get Fultz’ minutes for sure, but I’d argue we’d be better off just absorbing those minutes into starters and playing a 9 man rotation.

I’m also more optimistic than I probably should be since the first 2 games felt so insurmountable, but game 2 quarters 2-4 we won 68-66 and game 1 quarters 2-4 we lost 64-57. As has been the story for the last month, slow starts are KILLING us. We need to throw WCJ back in to start. I’d be ok going big and starting JI and benching GH, but Isaac and his help defense tendencies is really hurting us when he plays the 5.

I've thought a lot about that Suggs/Franz/Paolo/Isaac/WCJ lineup to be the starters but my main concerns are:

Can Franz guard one of Garland or Mitchell?

Will Strus just kill us because Paolo can't chase him around screens?

Lol. It’s now crystal clear that Franz and Paulo need to be surrounded by pure shooters. Not just at the guard position but all over the place.

I'd hope Paolo and Franz can be part of the solution too. Otherwise chances are they can't be successful together long term without a high level shooter at the 5 which is a difficult archetype to find given the defensive responsibility of the position.

  7. D'Angelo Russell hit 7 3s in game 2.

I'm not even a fan of his really. But at this point we're so unbelievably desperate for some shot making I'll be thoroughly campaigning for us to go after him or anyone like him.

Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, the corpse of Klay Thompson, if you can shoot the ball at a high level we should be trying to trade for or sign you this off-season.

  8. Can't shoot.

    Dumb turnovers.

    Getting out rebounded.

    Paolo's defense is bad.

That's basically the story of the first two games.

There was actually a group of people on this board who did a victory lap when we didn't make a trade at the deadline and kept Markelle Fultz. How's that working out for us?

Maybe we make it a series at home but I've already got one eye on the off season. This is a big one. Biggest in some time.
