Anyone we draft will be competing for minutes or going to the G league in year 1 unless they're way ahead of where they're drafted. Missi I imagine would be the Goga role + going to the G league when WCJ + Mo are healthy.

I'm betting he doesn't based on every single piece of evidence we've ever had.

This is a great post. If my +1 button wasn't broken I'd upvote it. I still kind of disagree with the idea of comparing a rookie to specifically the 34+ year old version of Joe Ingles, the gap in bball IQ is massive but i get what you're trying to to say. You're right they haven't got the shooting they hoped for from Ashworth but I think teams still guard him out there because when he gets hot he can really hurt you (that UCONN game he cooked in the first half). And I agree that the more responsibility Trey has taken on as a ball handler has affected his scoring. I think the first option talk is just semantics honestly, for me a first option is "takes the most shots, has the ball the most" but it feels like you just mean "is the best player" which I agree Baylor was this season. At the start of the season I'd have agreed that Trey was the better prospect but now I'm starting to feel like the fact Baylor has a clearer path to an NBA role (off-ball shooter) is in his favour. The bar for being a ball handling guard in the NBA is super high, not sure if Trey can get there, and if he can't he'll need to be a great shooter to stick.

Im rooting for Markelle. But the idea this team will suffer without Markelle or regret re-signing him is just not true. We had our longest win streak of the season with him on the IR. He's 13th on the team in minutes played and 14th on the team in TS%.

That order I think. Reasoning: I'm super high on Missi, think he's a lottery talent. TDS is my guy after him. Collier is just a pure upside swing, it's a terrible fit for us though I could be talked to putting him down near the bottom to be honest. Smith, Dunn and Klintman are in a group whereby I could rearrange them on a different day. Smith is long, young and has shown real potential as a shooter so he swings it. Dunn is a special defensive player. Klintman is kind of less exciting than either. McCain im just not super high on picking another small-ish guard for us even though he's a good prospect. Ware I'm not huge on the motor and he had some really unimpressive outings against NBA sized bigs.

They've already paid Herb a really reasonable deal. Like he's getting paid Cole Anthony money. They're also currently 89m below the projected tax line in the year Trey Murphy's extension would kick in. Maybe if they blow it up someone like Herb might shake lose for picks and stuff but while they're trying to build around Zion I can't really imagine them letting Herb out the door. EDIT: also if they're struggling to pay Trey Murphy... Why not try and target him? Guy can shoot the hell out of it.

Joe Ingles has never played for Miami. Also, how much Creighton have you watched? Because Baylor Scheierman is neither the primary option nor do they have bad spacing. Creighton are a top 20 offense in the country largely because of how well spaced they are, they have several great shooters including Mason (son of Mike) Miller, Francisco Farabello, Steven Ashworth is a pretty great shooter at the college level, Trey Alexander (their actual primary option though I admit it's kind of 1a/1b rather than 1/2) is having a down year from 3 but teams still close out on him. Even their big Kalkbrenner hits a 3 now and again and at least steps out to run DHO etc and isn't just clogging the paint on every possession. I was maybe a bit harsh to say Scheierman is only a solid shooter he's a very good shooter. I just think it's lofty to compare him to someone like Joe who we've seen knock down over 40% from NBA 3 for a decade. But I hope I'm wrong because I really like him as a prospect.

The tax next year is projected to be 171m, the cap is 141m . We have 104m active salary which is inclusive of the Joe Ingles 12m team option. So a maximum of 49m in cap room and 79m in room under the tax. (JI is also non-guaranteed for 17m but can't imagine we waive him) Remember we're extending Franz and Jalen in the summer but they'll still have 1 year left on their rookie scale salaries, their extension amounts won't kick in until a year later. And the minimum salary threshold is 127m so the Magic have to fill 23m worth of cap space this summer regardless of how big the contracts are that we give Franz/Jalen. This is where things get a bit trickier though is projecting this into the future if we presume a Franz max extension and a Jalen 4/100m contract (no idea how close I am on that as a guess but it feels about right). Then the following year it's possible Paolo gets the Derrick Rose Rule max extension. It gets too complicated to think through for me at a certain point with team options and extending other guys (JI and WCJ mainly on the extension front for what I'm about to say), first round pick salaries depending on where you pick etc but the upshot is the Magic will likely be paying Paolo/Franz/Jalen possibly around 120m combined in 2026-27. The cap is projected to be 170m and the tax is projected to be 207m so that leaves 87m in salary for the remaining 13 roster spots to avoid the tax (we may be a tax paying team when it's clear we're in a contending window to be fair). If we presume we keep Jett and AB up until that point their salaries will be 17m combined so that'd leave 70m to fill 11 roster spots. So if we do swing big this summer with like a 25m+ a year deal it might be safer to go for a 2+1 team option type deal and not anything that goes 3 or 4 years guaranteed.

Doubt he's available honestly. All NBA level defense with 40% 3 point shooting isnt the type of guy you move.

One of my favourite performances of the year. Paolo couldn't get it going so he got on the glass and made some great passes and the offense picked up for him. Suggs was incredible. JI was great. Franz apparently is a better shooter with a hand in his face than when left wide open. Defense on Zion was terrific. Big win. And the Knicks lost so the Magic are officially the 4 seed. Need the Pels to use that extra rest we gave them and go down and whoop Miami tonight.

Everyone who got on me for my Carrington opinion will love this one: Every single freshman Kentucky prospect not named Sheppard, Dillingham or Edwards should both go back to school AND transfer. (I'm looking hard at you DJ Wagner).

In the 2nd sure why not. Don't love him as a prospect but length + shooting, I'd get it.

I love Baylor Scheierman and I also want us to draft him, I've mentioned several times in this thread how he's underrated, but I think comparing him to Joe is having lofty expectations. Joe is and has been an elite shooter and Baylor is more of just a solid/good shooter.

Seems like Embiid will be back given the reporting. I don't think there's an easy first round series for us but I'd prefer Knicks or Pacers to Heat or 76ers (under the presumption Embiid is healthy for the playoffs).

I've made it very clear Tristan Da Silva is one of my guys in this draft. He had a good game yesterday in the First 8. 20 points on 7/11 shooting and 3/6 from 3. I don't really see Franz Wagner except they're both 6'10, multi-talented, German wings but you don't really expect to draft a Franz Wagner level talent in the 20s.

Wouldn't think too much about it, if we were going to pick Maxey we could have at #15 and if we had both picks we likely wouldn't have picked 2 guards.

https://youtu.be/A7mSvuckG_0?si=0h2GBBZg4a0GKl6j Maybe I'm crazy but 6'6, thick frame, can shoot it, put the ball on the floor, good passer, great rebounder for his size. Nique Clifford is a first round pick to me, he's not the most explosive athlete, he's 22 already and he benefits in college by being stronger than guys but he just looks like an NBA player and that's what I'm trying to get picking in the 20s.

That game was over at half yet I inexplicably watched until the end. The Admiral Schofield points in garbage time were fun. Jalen Suggs getting riled up by Grant Williams and just going into ***** you mode was hilarious when we were already up like 25. That (definitely not a travel) behind the back Paolo dime to a stepping back Suggs 3 was one of the most fun plays of the season. Good W and rest for the starters and JI. Let's go.

Just read the Fultz piece. I'm sad man. I can't help but root for the guy. At the end of last season I didn't have a single thought of trading him, I thought he'd come into this season even better than the last. I always dreamed he'd late bloom into a star and they'd make a 30 for 30 about him (they might still but the tone will likely not be as triumphant as I hoped) It's just hard to see where we go from here with a team desperate for floor spacing and with a glut of young guards. But, despite my insistence that we should have traded him at the deadline, I'll still always root for him wherever he ends up, here or elsewhere.

For anyone watching the tournament I might post here recommending interesting prospect games if I think of any. Only 1 game tonight really from a prospect stand point: Virginia Vs Colorado State Virginia have Ryan Dunn, an athletic, defensive forward who's projected first round. And Reece Beekman their PG is more of a fringe prospect on account of being a senior guard who's not a good shooter but he's a great college player and might get drafted. Colorado State have Nique Clifford who I think is a bit of a sleeper prospect, think he could end up being a first round guy depending on how he performs in the tournament and private workouts. Kind of a do it all wing.
