Welcome Ben Gordon- Magic Sign Ben Gordon for 2 years $9M

Yea I know... It's confusing. He got a lot of bad press for clashing with a coach that got fired after one season, obviously it's not great he clashes with his coach but feel like he just wasn't a very good coach. But I get the impression he never really wanted to be in Charlotte anyway. He's obviously got questionable character but we'll see whether that will be a problem since he chose to sign here presumably with the understanding that he's not going to be a featured player. -
Wow... All this over Chandler Parsons.

I've been worried about his attitude as well but 2 of our assistant GM's have had experience with Gordon (Lloyd at Chi and Perry with Det) so if he's really not a good guy they'd know and we probably wouldn't have signed him. I was thinking that he might have a relationship with Maxiel from his Piston days as well... But obviously that doesn't matter if we waive him. -
Patterson averages 7.4 rebounds per 36 for his career which, for a 6'9 athletic PF, is pretty poor. Oladipo averages about 5 rebounds per 36 and he's a 6'4 guard.
-
I actually wouldn't mind Patterson. He'd bring some much needed shooting and everything I've heard about his character is positive.
-
I'm not sure I trust the reputability of that twitter account but I wouldn't be all that surprised if we did offer Nicholson in a S&T. Patterson is probably what we hoped Nicholson could be.

Random thought: Rob must really trust Scott Perry. Gordon is the 3rd former Piston we've brought in who Perry would have known from his Detroit days. EDIT: Extra random thought. Matt Lloyd was with the Bulls for a long time before he came here. That's 2 of our front office guys who have experience with Gordon.

Summer League can't come quick enough. There's only so many times I can watch the same 7 or 8 Aaron Gordon highlight videos.
-
Thabo is a good defensive player, that's really about it. Perimeter defense is probably the only thing we have an abundance of.

Yea but he's only 6'3 so what I meant by him playing the backup PG spot is that I can imagine we'll see lineups with no PG's where Vic or Fournier run the offense and Gordon guards (or trys to guard) the PG. -
Some interviews from the first day(s) of practice are up on the magic website. I've never been more excited for Summer League. Obviously there's Aaron and Elfrid but Dedmon has apparently put on 8lbs of muscle and I'm hopeful he'll be able to show improvements as well as Marble who I genuinely believe could make the roster even if we have signed 2 SG's in the past week.

Leader, leader !! Anybody got a leader !!!
CTMagicUK replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that the Magic think this is Vic's team and made moves (trading Afflalo, waiving Jameer) accordingly to allow him to blossom and develop as a leader on and off the court. -
Or are Isiah Thomas.

I don't mind this deal for a number of reasons. I understand it's an overpay but we have so much cap room and little use for most of it so I'm not too worried about that. I think this is Gordon's last shot in the NBA with the reputation he has. He needs us more than we need him if he wants to continue his career. Am I expecting anything special? No, but I think he'll backup the PG spot and come in to play off the ball and allow Oladipo/Fournier to create from the SG position. He's had a slump these past couple of years but he has been a great 3 point shooter which we desperately need and if he can get back to that he'll be valuable. I think we should all be aware that Henny has sat down with this guy and had a discussion about his role and responsibilities. If he steps out of line I imagine he'll just be waived and if he does become disruptive at least we get to test the strength of the culture we've been building. Also Gordon could easily be fodder as a soon to be expiring contract if we needed to make up salary in a trade. I have my doubts that this move will pay off in any significant way but it's relatively low risk. -
NBA Draft Grades - Negative (Pelton and Others)
CTMagicUK replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
Kevin Pelton, the messiah of basketball, can look at a 20 year old kid straight out of college and instantly decide whether or not they'll ever be an All Star. Interesting. -
Houston invited Parsons to be part of the meeting to recruit Melo. They would absolutely go into the tax to keep him and get Melo as well.
-
Why do people assume that nobody on our roster will be a star?
-
I'm willing to bet Jameer could still get 6 million dollars a year if he wanted to the way this free agent period is going. He might take less for a legit contender though.
-
So none then?
-
Davis won't be a free agent in the next 7 years.
-
I think most people on this board know more about basketball than Schmitz.
-
Does Henny know what he is doing poll?
