Garino signed with the Spurs. Thought we'd get him.

Off topic but I'm bored and it's my annual 'no Magic basketball so let's go look at draft prospects for hours' phase: I wish we could both make the playoffs and draft Markelle Fultz. Dude looks legit. Like a more bouncy Exum with a flashier handle.

Every year there's at least a couple of teams who are much better/worse than the national media think. People thought the Bucks would be good last year. Nobody thought the Rockets would only be the 8th seed last year. Etc etc.

... Pretty much every teams entire offensive strategy is get a wide open dunk. If teams want to leave Biyombo open when he's within a few feet of the rim that's on them but it doesn't sound like a bad thing to me.

I can't believe anybody would want Mozgov over Biyombo. Mozgov is an average big man in pretty much every way. Biyombo is an elite shot blocker and rebounder.

    Vuc for Gay?

I'd hate this in every way but I'm pretty confident we won't do it. We don't need someone else taking minutes from AG and Mario and Vuc is worth more in my opinion than Gay straight up. Although I thought Tobias was worth more than what we ended up with so who knows.

Im no expert on cap figures but Beal just got a 5 year 128 mil max so I'd say it'd be something like that. That's really why I don't think OKC are geniuses for this trade like the media is making out. Next summer they're probably going to have to max Dipo and Adams to keep them, they have no assurances that Westbrook will stay but even if he does he'll obviously get the max and then they've got a lot of cap space tied up in Westbrook, Dipo, Kanter, Adams which will never win a championship unless one of Dipo or Adams becomes an all nba player. So if the Thunder don't win 50 games this year let's say, will Westbrook want to come back knowing he'll be locked in to 4 years of mediocrity with that team?

Right. The choice wasn't Fournier or Dipo it was Fournier and Ibaka or Fournier and Dipo. And since we had Hezonja as well hopefully being ready to have a bigger role with more minutes it made sense to make the move. Free up space a little on the wing. Bring in a guy down low who fills a need and has a huge amount of playoff experience and might have a bounce back year with a more defined role. The 11th pick is inconsequential to me. Most of the people who are complaining we gave it up where saying we ought to trade it for some talent because we didn't need another rookie before the draft. Plus I really don't think Sabonis will be a guy we'll look back on years from now and say "damn why didn't we keep him".

Good for Moe. What on earth is Portland doing though? They must be really confident in either their ability to trade those contracts if need be or that those guys are going to improve and push them from low playoff seed to contender.

The teams that sent Ibaka and Biyombos teams "fishing" were the winningest team in nba history and the team that beat them in the finals. I think I'm ok with a couple of teams having the personnel and gameplan to exploit us because most teams won't. Also using the Dwight magic teams as an argument to not value rim protection is ridiculous.

Because no team has ever made a bad personel choice and got rid of a good player because they thought they didn't need them...

I think it's entirely possible were better than the Heat, Bucks, Bulls and Knicks. The fact that we actually have an identity now as a big team wholl block shots and play tough defense probably puts us over the Bucks. The Heat lost DWade and Deng, we don't know if Bosh will return and they added nobody else and the Knicks added one of the least efficient point guards in the league and an over the hill Noah who could barely make a layup last year but people think they got better. The Bulls are just weirdly built with no shooting and 3 guards who need the ball to be effective, I can't see that working. I also don't think Washington improved much. Although Beal being healthy will help them and Mahinmi is a good pick up.

14 boards in 24 minutes is pretty crazy. I'd say more like 9 boards.

There was genuinely a time where I thought Rondo was going to be a top 10 nba player. I think it was after game 2 of the 2012 ECF where he played about as well as I've ever seen anybody play. I don't know what happened after that but he hasn't been close to the level he reached in that Heat series since. Injuries probably haven't helped but also not playing with 3 HOF players, 2 of whom were great 3 point threats, might have something to do with it.

I mean Plumlee is 27 and averaged 5 and 4 last season and has exactly 1 playoff game in his whole career. Biyombo is coming off a huge playoff run, is younger and better. There's a chance Biyombo becomes Ben Wallace (admittedly it's very small). Plumlee basically is what he is.

You know whats fun? Putting our guys into 538's CARMELO, looking at the players on the similarity scores and getting excited imagining they all reach the best case. Elfrid Payton = Deron Williams/Mike Conley Evan Fournier = Reggie Miller/Klay Thompson Mario Hezonja = Paul George Aaron Gordon = Anthony Davis Biyombo = Deandre Jordan/Tyson Chandler If you completely ignore that that will never happen and that some of these similarities are only like 30% similarity to the guys rookie year it's really exciting and fun.

Johnson would in no way be an upgrade to CJ in my opinion. Also, if Marble isn't scoring he's still a long, athletic wing who plays capable defense.

Glad the Mavs paid Dirk some serious dollars this summer since they didn't get any big names. He deserves every cent considering what he's done for that franchise.
  25. Please keep all talk of the trade to other threads. This is solely for Appreciating VO and his 3 years here. He's brought us some memorable moments in my opinion. Part of that dunk winner against the Thunder from Tobias. Game tying shots this year against the Thunder (no wonder OKC wanted him). The triple doubles his rookie year. The game winning layup against the Bulls. The 360 dunk, the dunk on Lebron and the dunk contest "540" dunk. Personally, I became a Magic (and basketball) fan just after the draft in 2011 so he's the first Magic guy I saw in college, in the pre draft process and then playing in the NBA. He's been my favorite player for 3 years and his performance in the game in London (the only nba game I've seen live in person) was terrific. He's a good player and seems like a stand up guy and I wish him all the best.
