Melo and Nets Reach Tentative Agreement

Recommended Posts

What's good for the Magic is Melo not joining the Knicks. Amare & Melo could potentially be the start of something tough..thankfully both are allergic to defense, so I wouldn't be THAT concerned about it long term for the Magic.

That said, the Magic and the rest of the East would be better off if Melo either stayed in Denver or got traded to the Nets, rather than to the Knicks.

Disagree. The Magic need Melo to go to the Knicks. If they have Melo they can't sign Dwight.

They could go Dwight-Amare-Melo, couldn't they? Or would someone have to take less money like the Miami Three did? Then again.. who really knows until the NBA has a new collective bargaining agreement...

Also I guess if Melo doesn't go to NJ/Brooklyn, the Nets would still have cavernous cap room, and could make a run at Deron or CP3, as well as Dwight.

The Knicks are giving up too much for Melo. They are offering like 4 or 5 players and draft picks for Melo and Billups. Just wait for free agency and they can get him without depleting their roster. I just think the Knicks are scared that the Nuggest will trade him and he might sign elsewhere like New Jersey.

Amar'e having a max deal really hurts their chance at having a three. They could have a big 2 1/2 like Miami, as long as the 1/2 is paid like a 1/2.

Right, assuming the CBA doesn't change, the summer of 2012 Amare will be on contract for just about $20,000,000 while Carmelo with his $65 extension should also be making about $20,000,000.

This year, the heat players all took a salary of $14,500,000 (wade was at $14,200,000 though). So the Miami 3 are making 43.2 million combined while Amar'e and Carmelo would be making somewhere around $40 million combined. That doesn't leave much room for a third elite player or enough salary to put forth in a sign and trade.

Anthony wasn’t with the Nuggets with the resumption of practices Monday. ‘Melo finally gets to New York, his preference all along, and will presumably sign the three-year, $65 million extension that’s been offered since the offseason.

Only instead of signing in the Mile High City, he’s doing it in the Big Apple. ‘Melo will team with Amar’e Stoudemire to give the playoff-contending Knicks a true superstar duo in their bid to move up the Eastern Conference pecking order and close in on Miami, Boston and Chicago in the years to come. New York doesn’t play until Wednesday against Milwaukee at Madison Square Garden.
