KillingInTheNameOf 63 Report post Posted September 10, 2010 communism is a great idea for daydreaming about what the government would be like in "the perfect world". Its the optimist's government. Good 1 Human nature makes it an impossibility. It'd be awesome to get free everything. Everybody gets health care, everybody goes to a good school. Need food? go to a grocery store and don't pay. People's need to be rewarded for work, Greed, wanting to be better than your neighbors, the fact that you still need to trade with other countries, laziness, etc make communism an unachievable goal. The other fundamental flaw of collectivism is the notion leaders can be found to organize such governments who aren't pursuing their self interests, which comes at the expense of the citizenry. Until such angels are found to organize such societies, the entire premise of Utopia is flawed. Then the angels just have to figure out how to convince the collective to abandon their self interests without force... Regardless, Castro's statements are significant. How many Cubans have been imprisoned, exiled, or killed for echoing them?

Then the angels just have to figure out how to convince the collective to abandon their self interests without force... Regardless, Castro's statements are significant. How many Cubans have been imprisoned, exiled, or killed for echoing them? a bunch died. Castro spent most of his life grasping at ways to keep his tiny empire functioning. As a revolutionary he knows the power that words can have so he silenced all of his opposition. You gotta believe he assumes he's going to die soon. Such a turn of heart seems like something that can only happen on one's death bed. communism might have worked for a period of time if it was instituted during the early forming of civilization. At least some time prior to currency. Back then, with cooperation necessary for survival and an entire economy based on the barter system, communism makes sense. If a few pieces of society messed up then entire populations could die. Right now we take our ability to live isolated lives for granted. The scope of humanity has gotten too broad. One person, on average, isn't going to be as important for survival. Too many luxuries. Its not a bad thing, we can all carve out long good lives out. People live long times. Men don't die in their early 40's from laboring themselves to death like they did once upon a time. We enjoy progress. Some things need to give.
