  1. I'm pretty sure that what jjgator was referring to is that the **** sandwich doesn't taste as bad as what we thought it would. Keeping Dwight for another year would've accomplished nothing other than more dissention on the team, and delaying the rebuilding of the Magic.

Yes, that is what I meant. I'm not saying the trade was great, but it wasn't quite the garbage a lot of us thought it was.

  2. To show how well this team has been passing this season, there's 2 different stats I want to throw out there (all courtesy to the great Basketball-Reference.com)

1st - This year the Magic already have 9 games with 25+ assists, with a total of 24 games played, or 37.5% of the games. Last year they had 13 of those games total, or 16% of the total games.

2nd - This year, there has been 3 games with 30+ assists, including tonight's game. That doesn't seem like much, except if you go back the 8 years prior with you know who, there were 8 games total with 30+ assists.

Nice post, I reposted it on the NBA General board on ESPN and gave you credit.

  3. I really don't watch college ball, but given how bad the Magic are going to be, I might start watching (especially since I work at UW, which has produced a few good pros in the last couple years). Any sleepers out there? Not necessarily guys that are dominant, but role-guys who could fill gaps until we get "Guy, The"?

I'll let you jump on the Gator bandwagon if you'd like. Should be another nice season for us.

  4. That's because we don't have anyone who can create their own shot.

As to Gortat coming back, I'd rather just keep giving Vucevic a lot of burn and let him develop.

Agreed, bringing Gortat back sounds like something Otis would do. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Magic again, but the price will likely be too high. Other teams will probably offer quite a bit for him I think.

  5. Could be - I didn't delve too deeply into the story. I think it was actually about the Lakers, but it showed the top ten payrolls in the NBA:

    (found it)

    Lakers, Brooklyn, Magic, Miami...

And to nCoolness: yeah, me too if only to give me something fun to watch. Right now, it's just painful even listening to the games on the radio.

Yeah, that one definitely includes the Arenas salary, it's right there to the left showing he's the 4th highest paid player in the NBA even though he plays in China.

  6. And really, while it'll be a (really) painful year, saddling ourselves with any more salary or contracts is a bad idea. Granted, Gortat is more moveable than most, but let's just keep it simple.

I read somewhere we have the third highest payroll in the NBA. Makes sense when we had Dwight. Now? Not so much....

I think that's if you include Arenas' amnestied salary.

  7. Happy that the Magic won. Great team work all around.

Hedo being down is a good thing, this is a sign that he should immediately retire for his old age and deteriorating body.

Now gotta wait for the Lakers to go 0-3 against the Clippers because of Howard and Dudu.

Dudu should get more minutes with Nash out.

  8. I'm the opposite. So many experts, critics, fans are putting us down and saying we'll finish with the worst record in the NBA, but this hasn't dampened my enthusiasm.

Why? Because I absolutely hated the way we have been the last couple of seasons.

Everything about the team revolved around Dwight, and quite frankly it was suffocating and terrible to watch. We made too many trades based around supplementing/assisting Dwight's game, and because we had the most athletic big man in the league, we completely sacraficed the athleticism of the rest of the roster. Our playbook became incredibly one dimensional and if we weren't hitting threes then we were effectively beaten. I didn't feel overly proud to have a winning record or a dominant big man, because 90% of the time we had zero style. Any opposition team who put on their thinking hats could make us look completely stupid.

Although we will probably be a losing team, at least we are now just that - A TEAM. No big shots around to handcuff our potential. We now have some athleticism and variety across the roster, and with the future cap space/options, things can only improve.

Turk is infuriating, but his lazy/garbage plays will be highlighted this year. Last season there were so many areas of our roster that basically weren't good enough, but because we kept squeezing out the wins, it just papered over the cracks. The best thing about our situation is that we don't have any big commitments, so if a player wants to stick around for the forseeable future, they'll have to earn it. Too many players last year were getting a free ride and living off Dwight's dominance, and it just made us complacent.

I know a ball hasn't been touched yet, but I miss nothing about the last few seasons. No our situation isn't ideal, but in my eyes it is infinately better than the end of the Dwight era.

    Rant over.

Great post, I feel the same way. Dwight parting ways with the Magic was really the best thing for both parties. We weren't ever going to win a ship with Dwight as our best player.
