  1. Nik Vucevic is becoming one of the best centers in basketball and if you can't see it, you're blind. He had 17-17 against Al Jefferson last night, has 11 rebounds in 6 straight games, is finally hitting that mid range jumper (and getting very close to extending it to the three).

Nik's game lately has been unreal on both ends. I'm frustrated with the lack of touches though. I think we could benefit from a few Nik post ups a game when our offense gets stagnant. He's 7'0 with good moves and range.

I know some people view him as a stop-gap and a throw in but to be honest, I am very close to viewing Nik as the future of this team. 22 years old and he's already had GREAT games against Dwight and Al Jefferson. The future is bright, I'd just like to see him get more involved.

  2. Redick is in 9/10

Moore and Nelson both appear in 5/10

    AA in 5/10

    Glen in 4/10

Pretty clear cut who the best and most important player on the team has been.

The biggest surprise was the 11th best line-up.

Smith/Moore/Harkless/Nicholson/OQuinn line-up. Very small sample size but in roughly a quarter and a half, they're +7.

  3. we have a few quality wins, but we've also been blown out by the Nets (lost 3 times in fact), Spurs, and T'wolves earlier. We've also lost to Toronto and Sacramento. And yes we beat the Lakers but only on paper.

I will say this, if we can somehow maintain .500 in January where the schedule gets much, much tougher, then yes I would be confident to say we are a playoff team.

I think you can throw out all losses without Jameer in the line-up.

  4. Serious question, when Hedo comes back, what's his role?

Starting him means taking time from Harkless = bad.

Putting him on bench means he takes touches away from JJ = worse.

What do you do with him?

He shouldn't be in our closing line-up. He isn't a good defender.

I really like our rotation right now and think we have 12 guys who can contribute on a nightly basis as Jones and McRoberts have shown when their number's been called. I just see Turkotrash as a wrench in that.

  5. 9-6 this season when JJ and Jameer play. I don't understand at this point why us winning games surprises people. This team has 6 players who can consistently get their own shot. Harkless is emerging as a guy who could potentially be an elite perimeter defender in this league, and Vaughn seems to have finally found a good rotation although I think Jones could use more burn.

    We're a good team, guys.

  6. The thing is, JJ is not even on the same planet as Jordan, Magic, Stockton, or any of the others you mentioned. JJ is a role player. No one gives a **** about role players after they retire.

Look, I like JJ, but this franchise isn't anywhere near contending and by the time it is again, JJ will be past his prime. I'd rather let him go to a contending team now and compete for a title while we continue our rebuilding movement. He's really not someone you keep around to rebuild and that's not a knock on him.

I disagree. He's probably going to make a run at sixth man of the year and if the Magic sneak into the playoffs, there's a good chance he could get it, especially if he has one of those "holy crap, he's hitting everything games" in a game against a true contender.

If JJ's contract is what his last one was, I'm all for keeping him. If he wants upwards of 10+, unless we trade AA (PLEASE!), then it's time to move on.

JJ's leadership and work ethic are two things you definitely want on a rebuilding team. Look at the Wizards and other teams who have tried to build without guys like JJ and Jameer. They suck.

  7. I can go either way with this one, but Ryno's positives went so far beyond just his offensive abilities, which, as you stated, were considerable. I really do see Ryno as the next Dirk, although I don't think he'll ever quite have Dirk's moves or handles (so "Dirk-lite").

Ryno was also a positive guy, and while kind of goofy, never goofed off on the court (Dwight). He played hard every night, hustled every night, and was just...positive. Those are traits that are hard to coach into someone.

I get why we let him go, but I think Ryno might have been a better piece to hang onto than 'Meer, and I'm a HUGE fan Jameer.

Disagree. Meer is a leader and a stable veteran presence who makes people around him better by his presence. Anderson just doesn't bring enough intangibly to keep him over Jameer.

  8. We're 6-3 with Jameer and JJ both in the line-up with wins against pre-season darlings LA and Denver and a pretty good win against what's been a red-hot Golden State team.

And for all we know, Harrington could be our second or third best player. Getting him back will be huge.

We're a deep team with really young, raw players too who are going to grow as the year goes on, especially with the work ethic some of our veterans have. And if Vuc can average a double-double the rest of the way, things will only look up.

  9. Hedo is starting. That would mean JJ and Harrington pick-and-rolls all day, with Harkless anchoring the defensive end. That's actually a pretty exciting prospect in my book. I'm also okay with Hedo off the bench and Harkless starting, but I don't know if that would mesh well.

What we should really be thinking about is the crunch time lineup.

I pray to god we don't go small.

But there's no reason to change it and hopefully Vaughn sees it. Our end of game line-up is like +38 in 35 minutes or something similar to that.

RE: Hedo:: He sucks. He can't dribble-penetrate, he can't create for others, he can't create for himself. This isn't 2008. Why do people still view him as anything but a spot shooter?

  10. I don't really get this notion that we didn't try to build up last time.

We drafted Dwight, traded for Nelson on draft day, drafted Redick and Lee. Turk for all intensive purposes developed here, Gortat's rookie year was here. Pietrus was a young cheap signing.

Really only Lewis from the finals team wasn't developed in Orlando except for the stop gap pieces.

Building through the draft only works if you get incredibly lucky IE OKC. I'd rather draft a strong stable of supporting players (like we have) on cheap contracts and gain a star or two through free agency or our trade exception.

That's why I think winning is imperative this year. If our role players can prove they can play at a high level, we can use that trade exception with the two pathetic picks we got from LA/Denver and maybe another cheap piece to S/T someone this summer or trade for a disgruntled star.

    Florida has serious tax advantages.
