If you were Rob Hennigan, how would you rebuild?
DanA_TBDP replied to The Magic Word's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
Rebuild through free agency. Use Florida tax incentives, new stadium to draw a big name or two. We tried draft with Shaq, tried it with Dwight. Done watching us be a farm team. Unless we absolutely suck and get as lucky as the Sonics/Thunder did 3 years in a row, the draft doesn't work. Name the last NBA MVP who is still on the team that drafted him? Or even defensive player of the year? How about finals MVP? I mean, honestly, we thought Dwight was going to be the "different one" and he turned out to be an even bigger a-hole than LeBron. I don't trust NBA stars anymore. Honestly wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Durant sign HWNSNBU then move to LA or somewhere else. -
slightly more excited than I am about making Andrew Nicholson a center-piece... so not very.
-
Honestly, if we make a trade and come out of it with anything less than a player I'm excited about, I'll be incredibly disapointed. We have too many "eh, ok" players on the team. Even if it's a prospect; just someone with any kind of real potential.
-
TE's don't work like that.
-
If we could get Parsons, I don't care who we'd have to get up. He's already better and has a higher ceiling than anyone we have.

I'm sitting in my room and someone breaks into my home. I see them rummaging through my belongins. Unless their first move is to bolt, they're a threat. I also hate our prison system in general. Joe breaks into Ben's house. Ben calls the cops and Joe gets arrested. Joe is living (though indirectly) off of Ben's tax dollars. Yay.
-
No. Difference is one is a person acting on behave of their well-being and the other is government doing whatever it is that government does.
-
If you break into my home with the intention of stealing my property, your life has lost all value to me and I'd rather see you in a morgue than a jail cell.

Vucevic now 5th in the league in rebounding
DanA_TBDP replied to jjgator's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
But Nik's defense needs to improve. Baby masked some of his deficiencies early but they've been glaring... or maybe Drew is such an atrocious defender that Nik looks worse. Either way, defense needs to come back. *And yet here we are, after the dust has settled, someone inevitably has to jump in after the fact and take a jab at another member. How about we try harder to resist that urge next time.* ~El Capitan -
Vucevic now 5th in the league in rebounding

I don't think we're taking into account what Dwight's back did to his trade value especially after seeing guys like Amar'e lose a ton of athleticism from similar injuries. Kind of like a degenerative knee that has already sapped some power and puts a expiration date on a player. Dwight isn't what he once was and for all we know, his back will only give him ore problems down the road. -

Rob traded a center who handcuffed him. A center who relies nearly 100% on his athleticism and was coming off of career-altering back surgery. No team was going to play Dwight the 28-32 minutes a game he shouldve been playing (if at all) to start the year - the Magic included. Now he's got a fairly risky shoulder injury. If Rob valued Nik more so than any other player, how is it a bad deal? Who is to say that he could've gotten more in a deal that gave him Nik (who, from the beginning, has looked like the guy Rob wanted to build this team around)? Dwight traded a center who may not have that many good years left - watch Dwight this year, his athleticism is not what it once was. With no Jordan Hill, he's only going to get more minutes hurting himself worse and worse. I'm sure that there were multiple teams with concerns over his back and how he'd recover. Dom's example is questionable at best (amazing the attacks he gets away with BTW). Hennigan's traded more like someone with insider information. He either could've traded his $100 stock for 75 cents from someone else or for 50 cents in a company he knew was going to explode. He got a double double machine who has even more room to go, Afflalo who even though he drives me insane 90% of the time, is capable of offensive brilliance, Harrington who will only benefit this team either by fueling a playoff run or as trade bait, and Harkless, who has only scratched the surface of his potential as a wing defender, rebounder, and if he ever gets a jump shot, a 15+ per game scorer. At the time, the trade looked bad because no one knew what we had. Maybe Rob did. Maybe he "quit his job at Microsoft to start Apple". -
You can't trade every single veteran we have. This isn't NBA 2k. You need a guy (or multiple) like Glen or JJ who are 100% team first players and great veteran influences. Unless you land a talent and once in a lifetime leader like Durant or Tim Duncan (even he had tons of veteran leadership around him), you become the Wizards or Kings. One of AA or JJ has to be a guy you keep. Davis is another at least until his contract runs out. Goose, Al, and whichever SG you don't keep are expendable.

you spelled labia wrong. And it's staggering our defensive numbers with and without Glen. -
Afflalo is a black hole offensively. stops ball movement, doesn't pass well. He's nice when the offense is stagnant, but he takes too many shots when it's not and stops the flow.

Hedo may have one more game before he's getting O'Quinn mop up minutes. Especially since Jones is playing with a pulse. I'm just sick of Vaughn leaving Moe and Jones on the bench at the end of games while the other team's scorer is lighting us up. -
Afflalo is scoring but he's a ball stopper and a mediocre at best defender. With his scoring up, stock is as high as it'll ever be. Trade now! And I think Vuc has emerged as the team's future. Not many players can do what he's done lately. Absolute terror on the boards and his offense is picking up as well.

I just want Afflalo gone -
What are your expectations over the next few weeks?
DanA_TBDP replied to The Magic Word's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
They're missing their best player and probably second best bench player. Davis' impact is tremendous. -
Nik Vucevic is becoming one of the best centers in basketball and if you can't see it, you're blind. He had 17-17 against Al Jefferson last night, has 11 rebounds in 6 straight games, is finally hitting that mid range jumper (and getting very close to extending it to the three). Nik's game lately has been unreal on both ends. I'm frustrated with the lack of touches though. I think we could benefit from a few Nik post ups a game when our offense gets stagnant. He's 7'0 with good moves and range. I know some people view him as a stop-gap and a throw in but to be honest, I am very close to viewing Nik as the future of this team. 22 years old and he's already had GREAT games against Dwight and Al Jefferson. The future is bright, I'd just like to see him get more involved.

Since jammer came back other than the raptors, who? -
I don't get the love affair with Nicholson. He's slow, can't jump, and doesn't exactly have a frame that you can turn into a bruiser. Sure he might be a decent player but I'd have no qualms in trading him for an athletic shooting guard.
-
Our defense this year is not much, if at all, worse than it was last year, and that sure as hell isn't because Afflalo is locking down the wing. Nik is a very underrated defensive player. His length (watching him guard Jefferson on Al's faceups was something else) makes him a pretty good defender already and he'll only get better. He's averaging a double double and will only grow stronger and more polished as he gets older. I think Nik has a really high ceiling.
-
I'm confused. At what point did this board decide that Nicholson was the next great power forward? He's got a small frame and isn't athletic. Evans has a higher ceiling and it would in theory get us out from under Afflalo's contract.
-
Nicholson doesn't scream more than first big off the bench to me. If we could flip him and Afflalo for a young wing with high potential, I don't see why you don't make that move.
-
I would trade Afflalo and Nicholson for Evans or Gay.
