1) Nick was ready to come back this summer but Russia jumped at him first. He's not in Greece anymore. 2) He'sa 6'6 Calderon with a gigantic temper unless that's changed overseas. 3) If we're discussing overseas Gators, I'd prefer to give Alex Tyus a try out considering how desperately we need some athleticism in our front court.

Redick, hell no. Afflalo, that Suns trade isn't bad especially since their pick would be a good one.

2012 Orlando Magic Regular Season Thread

A college team couldn't beat an NBA team. Last year's Bobcats had Kemba who single handily destroyed college basketball the year before. They also had Biyombo who had obliterated all of the college big men in the FIBAs. So yeah, no. However, the team we rolled out last night.... 07 Florida could've made a game out of it. Or even that Kentucky team a few years back that had like 6 first round picks. -
Nik has looked very good. Moe has looked good on D and on the boards, needs to just finish some of his shots at the rim. He's getting the looks. E'Twuan is playing his usual (miss 5 shots, make 3 straight, miss 5, make 3) self. I can't wait until everyone else is traded.

I think we're at the point where Hedo has the value of Eddy Curry all those years back. He's never going to play but he's a cap filler who expires soon. Absolute trash.

Agreed. Both are 3rd/4th bigs at best.

I think the only two players who really are part of the long term plans are Nik and Moe. -

We lost 6 of our first 25 with Nelson injured. We were like 12-7 otherwise and that was without Harrington as well. Saying we could be fighting for the 7-8 seed at full health (not remotely including Hedo. His injury has been a blessing) is not out of bounds. But Harkless is so smooth and has a great feel for where the rim is. An off-season weight program, and shooting and he will be a very good player. Truly believe he has an all star potential. Same with Nik. -

What do you think his ceiling is? I think Ariza is a bit low. -
Phoenix probably hangs up the phone (then again, Phoenix is awfully managed), Indiana's GM probably wets himself that Phoenix would be so stupid.

Ish isn't good but he's been better lately than Duhon ever was last year. Ish put the team on his shoulders last night and shows flashes. Can't teach his speed and athleticism. That block last night was nuts. Coaching and he can be a servicable point guard. Duhon is worthless. And Dunlap posted this tidbit this AM: since being the starter, Harkless has averaged 12 points, 7 boards, and 2 steals shooting 46%. Kid's got confidence and is starting to play better. -
Did Memphis lose more than they gained?
DanA_TBDP replied to Malik Buttface's topic in Around the NBA/Globe Game
As someone who views Ed Davis as nothing more than a 4th big, maybe a 3rd on an average team, unless they move ZBO and really free up their cap situation, this was a cheap and terrible move. -
Ed Davis is not a Z-Bo replacement. They didn't get any pieces to help them rebuild (Davis isn't that), they didn't get any draft picks. Unless they can get a big haul for Randolph if they plan on trading him, they're stug in an even worse purgatory than before.
-
If I'm a Memphis fan, I'm livid. Gave up on the season and didn't even get a big time prospect or pick back. And this reflects that I view Davis as nothing more than a servicable bench big. But yeah, the tank is underway. Peace out, veterans. Been a great ride.

If Glen and Afflalo aren't gone by the deadline, I'll be incredibly disppointed.

Magic vs. Nets Game Thread - Jan. 28, 2013

Hoping we finally see Moe or DeQuan guarding another team's best wing down the stretch but I'm expecting McRoberts to get torched late. The Nets are super soft inside. Nik should get 14-14 tonight. -
If we could get Marshall and a pick while getting out from under Afflalo's contract, why would we not do it? Helps the tank, frees up cap space, gets us a young PG who I still believe can be a really good player, and a draft pick.

There isn't a lot to talk about. Nik is an emerging center who is becoming an elite rebounder. Glen is an inefficient offensive player but a tremendous leader. Nelson is inconsistent and bad defensively. JJ is going to get traded. Everyone else is young and inconsistent. -

Afflalo is the only player who played meaningful minutes tonight who you can't find a positive in his play. -

Our bench play depends 100% on which 3Twuan or Ish shows up. When they play well (and both of them have the ability to put on a show when they play), the bench is solid. When they play poorly (much more often), the bench is terrible. -
Glen's injury just seemed to start the death spiral. Time to start a bidding war for JJ. Try and dump Afflalo too for picks and shorter contracts.

If you were Rob Hennigan, how would you rebuild?
DanA_TBDP replied to The Magic Word's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
Yeah, I conceded you need an alpha dog (although you can sign/trade for one too). But I think it's unwise to put all our resources into the draft. -

I think Dwight's body is breaking down. 6'11, 270 pound dudes aren't supposed to have the athleticism and force he's had in his career. His body might just be pulling an Amar'e; which makes me glad we got a player like Nik and a defender like Harkless for him. I'm not sure what a team doctor in LA would say at the same time this off season. -

The NBA has completely changed. Yes, I was wrong about the finals MVP thing but I think the point still stands that in today's NBA, it's better to sign/trade your way to a title than draft. Yes, the Thunder are the exception, but they haven't gotten that ring yet. The Heat signed their way to one. Chandler, Kidd, Marion, Stevenson, the Mavs brought in others. The Celtics brought in KG and Allen. The Lakers brought in Gasol and Odom. Yes, it'd be nice (and usually optimal) to get an anchor through the draft (McLemore, Wiggins, Parker for example) but I'm not all about stock piling picks. Look at the Cavs. They have Kyrie and a bunch of mediocre draft picks around him. Their future isn't all that bright unless they sign someone else. The NBA isn't what it once was. You can't say a superstar will be like Dirk and stay around waiting for a ring. -
after last night, Afflalo for anything, even Dwight would make me happy.
