Your last sentence is the only one of any relevance in my opinion. I've watched several OK State games this year and have seen numerous instances where Smart has put himself in between refs and teammates to help them avoid technicals (to the extent that I've wondered if he isn't purposefully trying to display his leadership, especially on certain nights when his play has been less than stellar). I think its fairly incredible in this day and age that we would expect a young African American athlete not to respond, to what was more than likely a racial slur, in that situation. This isn't the 1940's, he isn't Jackie Robinson, and he should not be expected to turn the other cheek out of necessity or obligation. Did he make a mistake? Absolutely. Was his reaction warranted? More than likely. Will it effect his draft stock? I contend no more than his play has. If this fan truly was sorry for what he said it would be great if he came forward, acknowledged HIS mistake and role in the incident, and tried to make the situation right. Of course we all know this will never happen because this guy will never admit he actually said what we all know he likely did say. He was sorry when Smart stood up and puffed on him, but there's really no incentive now is there?

This^. If Smart starts slipping towards 10-12 I'd be shocked if we didn't make a strong play for him. This isn't a character issue, this is a guy who made a mistake in the heat of the moment.

Unfortunately we'll never know what the fan said, but he obviously said something fairly offensive. It looks to me like he says, "sorry about that" when Smart is staring him down right before the shove, but by that time what was done was done. Not sure if this will impact his draft stock anymore than his shooting ability already has, but if he starts slipping into late lottery I'd be fine with Hennigan moving up to draft him with our second pick.

I think last season was more exciting in a lot of ways (ex. watching Vuc become a force, adding Harris and watching him surprise the NBA) and probably had some more quality wins/moral victories (beating the Lakers in LA, almost beating Miami twice) . This season has been a bit anti-climatic, especially when you factor in injuries (Tobias to start the season, more recently Vuc) it's just kind of feels like a lost year. My biggest disappointment has been Harkless, but the guy is still real young and has time to develop. I think in general it's just genuinely hard to deal with back-to-back losing seasons like this, but this is part of the process and will one day serve as evidence that we are all true fans. So to at least attempt to answer your question, did we play better last year? I don't know, maybe. The losing certainly seemed a bit more palatable last season that's for sure, but that may have also been because I was somewhat distracted by the satisfaction I felt watching Dwight bust in LA

I think you're giving this team more credit than it deserves. We're not tanking, we're legitimately not good and no one expected us to be good. The season we're having was predicted by nearly everyone, so there's nothing to lose any sleep over. Now, if we're sitting here a year from now and having this conversation then we may have a problem, but until then just accept that we are what our record says we are and take comfort in knowing this should be the last year of absolute suckage.Stay the course.

I don't think anyone likes losing...it sucks, but it's part of the deal in year two of a complete rebuild. Funny thing is, this board would be absolutely suicidal if we were hovering around .500 and holding down the eighth spot right now. We're not tanking. Tanking implies a choice is being made to lose. We straight suck...there's no manipulation here. The result of this is a better chance for a higher pick, so I'm not sure I see the problem with hoping for the highest possible pick? Also, none of your suggestions above make us significantly better or worse (because we really do suck), it's just kind of your preference.

I agree with this completely. I say ditch the new jerseys and go back permanently to the original pinstripes with the home white and road black/blue jerseys. They are so much better than anything we've come up with since.I think they're only wearing these to promote their personalized "classic jersey" promotion but it would be nice to just get back to the basics and stick with those jerseys.

This^. Reading between the lines I think this means every single player on our team is available for the right price. I mean how do you trade Jameer or Afflalo if they're designated team captains from a PR, or credibility standpoint?
