The way players feel matters. I'm just saying I think both Markelle and Anthony will feel like they had a right to compete for start PG and now it feels like Suggs is the natural choice. I love the depth this brings, and they're professionals, but I know this won't sit well with either of them as how I've perceived them.

Neither Markelle or Cole are good enough not to have to compete for minutes so throw Suggs into the mix and let the games begin.

So, just a quick review - we do NOT have a lot of cap space to actually work with this summer for free agency. Not counting Bacon, who is not guaranteed until Aug 9th, we currently have $105.3M in salary for 10 players under contract, and "cap holds" for the two, first round picks. The full list/salary are below. The cap is around $112.4M, leaving us about $7M to work with.

We do have some other paths to get us some larger options. Resigning any of our own free agents might bring us right up to or over the cap, which means the maximum we would then have to work with would be the Mid-level Exception of about $9.5M.

We could do a trade and bring in salary above the cap by using the Trade Exception we got for Fournier, worth up to $17.5M. This might be useful if someone else is trying to create additional cap space to chase a free agent, i.e. the Pelicans to chase Kyle Lowry. To use the TE on a free agent, we would have to work with their "old" team to do a sign and trade, where they do the contract and immediately trade him to us for the TE. I think that is an option.  I believe we could also do a sign and trade where we resign Otto Porter, Jr. and immediately trade him for other players/pieces.  The list below is the player (age), current jersey #, roster count, 2021-22 salary/cap hold.

    Player  Plyr #
    Gary Harris (26) 14 1 $20,482,143
    Jonathan Isaac (22) 1 2 $17,400,000
    Markelle Fultz (22) 20 3 $16,500,000
    Terrence Ross (29) 31 4 $12,500,000
    Mohamed Bamba (22) 5 5 $7,568,743
    Wendell Carter, Jr. (21) 34 6 $6,920,027
    Cole Anthony (20) 50 7        $3,449,400
    Michael Carter-Williams(28) 7 8 $3,300,000
    Chuma Okeke (20) 3 9 $3,277,080
    RJ Hampton (20) 13 10 $2,303,040
    Rookie Pick #5   11 $6,593,040
    Rookie Pick #8   12 $5,007,840

So, just for an example, if we resigned Ennis and Wagner for a combined $7.1M, which puts us at the cap, and gives us 14 players on the roster, our options for adding a 15th player would be one of the following:

    Mid-level exception - $9.5M, or

    Bi-Annual exception - $3.7M, or

    Veteran Minimum, or

A trade using one of our trade exception - Fournier $17.1M, Aminu $4.27M, or Clark $2.1M (can not be combined)

    Man that team is young.

The craziest thing is that the only players I would be happy with us trading are the three oldest. Plus adding two maybe three rookies, the coaching staff better have it's developmental s**t together. Should be an interesting year, hoping for good health.

A lot of the mock drafts have is taking Suggs over Green. I get the whole BPA thing but with our current team wouldn't Green be a better pick?

Yes. I'm with you on that one I really think Green will be the scorer that we need.

  4. Watching these young guys grow and play hard should make for a very entertaining rest of the year. Admittedly I've been hard on Bamba but he showed some real offensive energy tonight and Cliff rewarded him by overlooking his defensive lapses and giving him minutes. I don't mind the loss because it helps the draft odds but I wouldn't be surprised to see these guys win a few more unexpected games.

Oh and Ross and Bacon are black holes, do these guys ever pass?

In an ideal world that will be the case, but our team does have a tendency to acquire players that take those minutes away.

My only concern with a front court of Isaac, Okeke and Bamba is can they keep up offensively?

Their defensive potential is excellent, but the offensive end is questionable.

I've said it before and I'll say it again Bamba is a stiff and should either be traded or at least not extended. Give me Green and Moody and let them fight it out for the starting 2. I think both can score and that is what this team needs the most. Oh and Jalen Suggs might just be a winner.

  6. I find it funny listening to national media (NBA Radio) how you rarely hear mention of any of the Magic players and when they have been discussed it was always negative. Now after these trades it's like the Magic traded away the best players in the league, they got fleeced bla bla bla..  I liked the guys we traded because they were our guys but we weren't going anywhere with them. Would I have liked to have gotten a better return? Sure, but at least now we have some young players that we can hopefully develop into something more than a 35 win team.

Oh man, i just looked at his stats the last ten games. They are pretty bad. Stats for the season are good though. Just used ESPN because it's easy. Gonna go check basketball reference. Just for some more info, the Blazers did not play little or Simons last night due to "Health and Safety Protocols". I'm betting it's bull and both of them are being dangled with Hoods contract.

Edit. Just realized the Blazers play here on Friday night.......

Trent, Simons and Hood for AG would be a fair deal. I heard Hood's contract is a team option. Let him walk and give that cash to Trent. Let Simons fight it out with Fultz and Anthony.

I agree. If we were fully fit most players last night would be deep bench. Our depth is actually solid this season when you break it down.

Starters           Fultz,       Fournier,   Isaac,    AG,                    Vooch

Bench              Anthony,  Ross,       Ennis,    Okeke,               Birch

Deep bench   GLge,        Bacon,     MCW,    Aminu/Clarke,  Bamba

Last night we had 3 of our deep bench starting and the other 3 getting significant minutes. Main issue right now is the FO lack of action in making trades because next season that depth drops to the below, which is probably best case scenario (Fultz wont be able to start full contact training until Nov at the earliest and probably won't be fully fit until next Feb (probably misses 1st half of next season.) Roster below isn't making playoffs next year.

Starters           Fultz,        lotto pick,   AG trade,    Isaac,       Vooch

Bench              Anthony,  Ross,           MLE,           Okeke,      Bamba

Deep bench    nothing,   nothing,      MCW,         Aminu,      2nd round pick

I agree with what you are saying but I really think Bamba is a stiff and it pains me. You hate to trade him and have him blow up in another system but with what I've seen i really cant see him getting an extension.
