Who's going to be our starting PG ??? (zach lowe)
MagicFromNZ replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
Give Elfrid the keys to the city. -
This.

Payton - Oladipo - Harris - Gordon - Vucevic Price - Fournier - Harkless - Nicholson - KOQ Excited about this season, guys. So many players I can't wait to see more of. We'll be a lottery team again, unless we make a big splash in free agency, but I'm okay with that. We've got an awesome core of talent now to develop.

Leader, leader !! Anybody got a leader !!!
MagicFromNZ replied to ball junkie's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
VO the obvious leader of the group, for me. Tobias a decent leader too. Bit of a leader-by-committee situation, as I'd expect even our new draft picks to be good role models and really professional. -
IF magic get 1st pick, should they trade down for 2?
MagicFromNZ replied to magicfanjay's topic in Orlando Magic Forum
I would say yes. There's only a few teams that need a PG like Smart (New Orleans, Sacramento) - so if Smart's the guy we want we can probably trade down and still select him. Especially when you consider our lottery chances will be higher than NOH and SAC. The issue is, why would a team trade the #2 + add-ons for the #1 if they don't believe you're gonna select their guy anyway. Case-in-point, if we got the #1 and the Bobcats got the #2. They likely want B-Mac, we might not. I suppose that's why management won't be playing its hand in public, and will be keeping strategy tight-lipped. -

MOAR TOBIAS -
Not as short as we were when we had Dwight last season (Dwight, Ryan, Baby) We've got: PF: Nicholson, Harris, Harrington, (Baby) C: Vucevic, O'Quinn That'll do. Providing we don't lose one of Vuc or O'Quinn to injury. Then we'd be getting very light. Think perhaps Henny is looking to add a D-League big anyway, he mentioned that the empty roster spot from waiving Warrick could be used for that. Don't need a PG (Nelson, Udrih, Moore), SG (Afflalo, Moore, Jones, Lamb), or SF (Harkless, Harris, Jones), so adding a D-League big makes sense.

E'Twuan spotting up for threes rather than handling the ball is gonna be nice. Good to have Udrih in.

I'm talking in his career anyway. Has played 804 minutes in the NBA since he was drafted last season. Not his fault Milwaukee believe they're a playoff team and he didn't get a look in. Expect Harris to be a solid player for us this season, and better beyond that.

Finally some positivity. Totally agree that, talent-wise, Harris equals a mid-first next year. Some people will be surprised when their mid-1st round lust objects like Burke or Oladipo go in the top 10 (Oladipo definitely will). This draft isn't overly deep. JJ was expiring. Don't forget that. As far as we know, Henny may have not wanted to pay JJ $7m p.a. in a new deal, so it's much better than letting him walk. We're getting flexible, we're getting young, and we're still going to suck and tank for our own good lotto picks for AT LEAST one more season. This trade was a win.
-
Harris is averaging 15pts/7reb on 46% FGs per 36mins. Nothing to scoff at. Young player, rookie contract, what's not to like? IF Redick was going to walk for more $, or if Henny was never planning on paying him circa $7m p.a., then it's a great deal. For those asking: All reports have suggested nobody was offering a 1st round pick.
-
Really hope Henny at least kicked the tyres on Derrick Williams. He was the NUMBER TWO pick last year and we could, reportedly anyway, have acquired him for a good, but mid-tier, expiring shooting guard who is 28 years old. If the deal was there, it's a no-brainer to take it.

Moe Harkless tho.... -
This. His play isn't the 'sexiest' PF play in the NBA (understatement), but for 6.5m p.a. he puts up 15/10 pretty consistently, is a leader, sets great screens, plays hard and plays solid defense. We've noticeably missed him when he's been injured. He was central to some of our good early season wins. And it's not like he's earning $11m like Hedo.
