Question: How important is a 17.8mil trade exception to a rebuilding team? What value if any does it give us? Edit: Kyler is saying we only have a 7.8 mil trade exception which makes more sense.

I've always said, even before the whole Dwight drama started, that I don't blame Howard for wanting out. The team was poorly ran and got to the point where it was financially impossible to improve the team. Him staying for another 2 years while we shed cap to be able to bring someone in would just be years wasted on his career and I fully understand that. But the crap he pulled for past year plus with all the flip flopping and totally killing all trade value he had this summer I don't know how you can thank him. If he would have just kept his mouth shut and worked on a trade behind the scenes I would not have lost any respect for him.

How many times does this need to be said, IT WOULD BE BEYOND MORONIC FOR A MAX CONTRACT PLAYER TO EXTEND. Really its obvious he was never going to extend, same reason Bynum isn't going to extend, same reason Dwight's agent said he wasn't even going to extend in Brooklyn. Not sure why people keep bringing this up and really where else is Dwight going to go that has cap? Dallas? Yea right, he will love it in LA.

I think whats really sad is that not only do we have pretty bad first round picks that are heavily protected, our second round picks are also protected. I mean really the picks we got back are pretty sad.

Not sure why people are so happy to get rid of Duhon, he was the perfect person to come in and blow a lead. Honestly I can't think of a better person to help us fulfill our goal which is to get a number one pick. That Duhon/Hedo combo would have been deadly, oh well.

Lets not forget if they were scared about Dwight Houston could of easily had Bynum. I think the biggest factor in Houston deal was them landing both Lin and Asik. Also according to woj and Hollinger the TOR pick was for sure part of the offer. I just wish we could have got at least one decent pick or a first in this years draft. 2014, 2015, 2017 all lotto protected and a long way away.

I would understand this trade more if we are flipping Afflalo. I just don't understand the need for him, he is 27 years old and by the time we are done rebuilding he will be in his 30's. Sure he is a player I would have loved to have when Dwight was still on the team but I fail to see how he helps a rebuild. I guess we shall see what moves will be next.

He did say future lotto pick which basically means TOR pick and he also said future unprotected picks as well. Also Hollinger echoed same thing.

Really the raptors are a lock to make the playoffs? Oh and even if they do it's still a protected lotto pick that would carry on till the next year and so on until their pick lands in the lotto and considering it's the raptors that won't take very long. BTW on espn this is our picks... Lakers in 2017, Nuggets in 2014, Sixers in 2015

Exactly what I was saying last night, even a short version of Houston deal still blows this new deal out of the water. Houston would give up more cap space and the picks are what would seals the deal, TOR lotto pick plus more solid first round picks instead of Lakers pick we get in 10 years and other late round ones. Kmart+1 Rookie+Plus TOR pick and future firsts is way better then Moe Harkless and a few late round picks that most don't come until years from now. I don't really understand the need for Afflalo, we are rebuilding whats the point as him being a main piece? He is 27 and will be 30 something by the time rebuild is over and he doesn't really help with tanking. I think most people are just glad it's over.

Ok I agree 8th was reaching but my main point was I can probably see us getting a pick in 10-12 range will this roster where as I think blowing the team up and trading with Houston (Bynum going to Houston) we would have a real chance at getting the number 1 pick which there is just no way we are getting that high of a pick (top 5) with this roster. Yes that's speculation but I just don't see this team losing every game. Afflalo is a huge upgrade over Jrich and we are more than likely getting a backup PG to be named if Duhon is in the trade. If Harkless and Nicholson can play decent we will be a mediocre team not the worst team in the league like I was hoping we would be.

I agree probably not an 8th seed team but it wouldn't surprise me. Big Baby finished the season very strong and so did Jameer and both vets who will give 100%. Afflalo could be pretty good for us and JJ as a backup makes our SG rotation pretty good and we will see how the rooks play. All I'm saying is the team isn't awful like some are saying, not possible first pick in the draft possibility that Houston trade would have gave us. And Vucevic hasn't shown anything except that he is a 7 footer lets not act like he is a stud as some are suggesting.

This trade puts us as a team that could possibly grab the 8th seed. Which is my only problem as Afflalo is pretty pointless on a rebuild team unless we are flipping him as well. The Houston trade puts us as one of the worst teams in the league while blowing up the roster. I still think Houston would give up Kmart+Lamb+TOR pick for Bynum. Oh well better than the Nets offer by miles, just wanted a legit chance at grabbing the number one pick in next years draft.

Reason why I loved the Houston trade was because it set our team up next year to suck badly. Even if the Houston trade was only for one of their rooks + Kmart + picks (their picks were great). Now IMO we are bascially getting Mo Harkless and a backup center for Dwight and late round picks. Afflalo is a solid player but worthless on a rebuilding team and IMO our roster won't be number one pick bad like the Houston trade would have put us at. I think our team will be a solid mediocre team which is a problem if your trying to win the lotto race like we should be.

If the goal is to rebuild wants the point in Afflalo? He is 27 already and you figure rebuild at least 3 or 4 years so he will be 30/31 by then and he is already not that great of a player IMO. So basically we are trading Dwight for Mo Harkless and 3 late round picks and one of them being a pick in 2017!

Not only will they be **** the Lakers pick wont come until 2017 at the earliest... This trade is beyond trash as it is reported
