Simmons Manages to Both Compliment and Insult, as Usual

quote: Originally posted by echo4papa:If there was a conspiracy, and it was simply driven by the refs as a group, without influence from Stern, don't you think he would have noticed it by now, and taken steps to clean it up? They've suspended refs in the past, and tried to root it out to some extent, but if they make too big of a deal of it, it will destroy the NBA brand, so theyre in a precarious position. And it's not really a grand 'conspiracy', it's more so just that refs are human and power makes people crooked (people naturally will abuse too much power) No one seems to remember these incidents from many years ago, before Tim Donaughy, before his allegations. http://static.espn.go.com/nba/...in_marc/1514733.html quote: Steve Javie, meanwhile, has been fined $1,000 by the league office for his part in an exchange with Riley early in the 2001-02 season. The incident didn't get national attention until December of this season, when Riley was fined $50,000 for saying leaguewide "dislike for me over the years" among referees -- specifically Javie -- was influencing the way Heat games are officiated. "It all started, I think, last year," Riley said Dec. 13 after a loss to the Knicks. "I think I sort of sensed something changing last year when Steve Javie, in Cleveland -- and to his delight, obviously, absolute delight, as we were getting beat, and going through a real tough time -- came to my face, after we were having a discussion, and said, 'It's giving us absolute delight to watch you and your team die.' " Remember, Van Gundy was Riley's assistant during these times, so that might be why he's tuned into it.

Lakers Finals drew good ratings despite one team coming from a smaller market. *Dwight is the clean cut image the league wants to promote. *The team is opening a state of the art Arena that Stern will not mind showing off to other cities who need upgraded facilities. Defending NBA champs in a new Arena! IMO its never been about Stern. Believe it or not, I think Stern is just some boring lawyer who moved up the ranks to become commish. It's the refs who are a crooked cabal, holding grudges towards certain coaches and players (especially those who whine), favoritism towards others, making side wagers, having determined outcomes in their heads. Stern doesnt dictate it to them, like I said, he's pretty straight from what I can tell, they just operate on their own ego trips. The refs seem to hate Dwight and Stan in particular, and I can kind of understand why. That's not to say ALL refs do, and we will have a few games here and there that are reffed in our favor (I thought last night was pro-Magic for a change). But overall, in a 7 game series we will have a lot to overrcome.

BDL: Jameer Nelson's Great Leap Forward

quote: For the record I still prefer Mighty Mouse, but "Crazy Nuts the Executioner" is a fine #2 alternate. I love Jameer and Dwight, but what's up with the Orlando and media/fans stealing other players nicknames instead of inventing our own. Of course you have the superman thing, but no one seems to remember Damon Stoudamire, who was the original Mighty Mouse lets not go down this road again

refresher from last year youtube from 2009 playoffs Skip Bayless Calls Out NBA Refs In Cavs/Magic Series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-J4mZOcdDE

quote: But the refs played their hearts out last year as i remember. Here is a youtube from last year of our Cavs-Magic series of Skip Blayless (no friend of ours) and two other talking heads on ESPN talking about how they're not the types to call out the refs, but the Cavs are getting an insane amount of calls and calling the integrity of the game into question http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-J4mZOcdDE and we still won: we just had to hit huge shot over huge shot to overcome it, and Dwight had a ton of phantom calls in the ECF last year, Gortat just really stepped up

Some definite "even though they had the best team on paper, they couldn't pull off four wins against an inferior big-market team, partly because nobody stepped up when it mattered, and partly because the league didn't want them to win" potential. I'm just sayin'. That comparison shows we'll get screwed by the refs like the kings? If the ECF gets rigged , im done watching games. Read the end of the quote he says, "partly because the league didn't want them to win". But yeah, how will we be able to prove it. It wont be outright rigged in plain sight. A few offensive fouls on Dwight Howard for trying to set up position (while the defender flops with his arms tangled), a few iffy moving screens, and Dwight has to sit half the game. Then when you look at the replays, the stuff will "technically be a foul", so the announcers will side with the refs and blame Howard, instead of mentioning they never call moving screens anymore, or offensive fouls for trying to establish post position. We'll just be labeled as whiners and told to "play through it" (which is hard when Howard sits most of the 2nd half). You'll see

  8. quote: Originally posted by Kberto:Oh, how I miss Keyon Dooling dribbling the shot clock down to 9 seconds only to wildly attack the basket or take a contested jumper. Good times. Keyon's a good energy guy defensively off the bench, but he's not even a better PG than Anthony Johnson. it mighta been a fluke season or whatever, im not sure, but he turned into more of a jump shooter last year, and excelled in this new role [42.1% on threes, very high offensive efficiency]
  9. we might also look into Sergio Rodriguez; he is buried third on Sac Town's depth chart [Tyreke Evans and Beno Udrih] perhaps a 1st rounder would get it done? shot about 32.5% from 3 point land last year tho, which is a problem for our system; but thats about what Rafer Alston will get you too, and we did allright *Sergio was acquired for a 2nd round pick I believe, during the draft
  10. quote: Originally posted by TheRevTy:Keyon Dooling was/is an awful PG. Decent small SG, terrible at running an offense. we dont need him to play a traditional point role; cj watson isnt really a point either; we just need him [or vince carter] to bring the ball up, spot up behind the line, and shoot threes [which he hit 42.1% of last season] and on defense, we can count him to play lockdown on the rajon rondos and mo williams and derek fishers we'll be facing offensively, keyon is a near clone of cj watson; undersized 2 guard forced to play point, who lacks court vision, but can shoot a mean 3; keyon separates himself by his ability to defend the 1 position
  11. quote: Originally posted by Drunk on Mystery:There is no planet that exists where Dooling is worth a first round pick. hes a much better player than CJ Watson, offensively and especially defensively, and Otis saw fit to offer a first rounder for Watson; and Dooling is an expiring
  12. quote: Oh word. If thats it I think it would be ok to pick him up. but I wonder why we didnt get him in the VC trade. yeah I wonder this too; I think Otis was just focused on getting Ryan Anderson; but perhaps Thorn was unwilling to give up Anderson and Dooling; or perhaps we didnt want to pay 3.5 million [Dooling's salary] for a backup point guard [CJ Watson was only going to command 2 million at most] Dooling is basically an expiring though; the last year of his deal is only guaranteed for $500,000; the rest can be bought out
  13. quote: you dont pass on a young big, like anderson, for dooling... big man have lot of value in this league... 99/100 scenarios I agree with you; take the young big who has more potential but we're in a unique position; we're right on the cusp of a championship, and need to go ALL IN the next two years before Vince's wheels fall off, so there's much less incentive to store potential on the back of our bench [hence why we got rid of Courtney Lee] our window is at most 2 years, but perhaps even 1 year given Vince will turn 34 in Jan, 2011; even Rashard is getting way up there in minutes played the difference between Keyon Dooling and Anthony Johnson might be enough to cost us a game 7 against the Lakers; Ryan Anderson likely wont get off the bench this isnt the time to look at anything but direct immediate impact it's why Otis is offering up 1st round picks for guys like CJ Watson; he senses how thin our margin of error is right now, and how important that is

    Does Micka

He was roaming, and not much else. regardless, Pietrus is incredibly mobile for a 6'6 SG/SF; I'm not sure it's a stretch to wonder if he could keep up with a Mo Williams or a Derek Fisher but then we would have to rely on perhaps Barnes to guard James/Pierce/Kobe, etc, which wouldnt be ideal anyways, we're clearly desperate here until we can find an adequate backup point guard
  15. quote: Originally posted by NickAnderson:Isn't Dooling injured alot? I remeber he was some when he was here. I just looked up his career Games Played- He has never played a full season. We need a backup they can stay healthy.. he gets ticky tack injuries, nothing major that threatens big stretches of time; he played 77 games last year, and 72 for us the year before; he doesnt have any major injury he fights at any given time
