What are people's thoughts on John Henson? And do you think there's any chance we could nab him? I'd like to have Henson on the Magic - a young, defensiv center with a reasonable contract. But the Bucks probably won't take any of our bigs in return since they already have Maker and Monroe. Plus they are looking to create cap space apparently. And without moving Vucevic/Biyombo we would create a logjam at center...

Who from the "good ole days" is still here?

Old school lurker (mostly)... still here

    Official 2015 Draft Thread

I understand hindsight is 20/20 but nevertheless I had to laugh out loud at some of the statements in there. At least he was mostly right about Eddy Curry... That was a pretty bad draft.

Good article by one of my favorite writers. Is it just me or do the big, traditional franchises seem to have the most dysfunctional front-office/management (Bulls, Knicks, Lakers)?

For the sake of discussion: Would anyone be interessted in Mason Plumlee as a potential addition? ESPN writes the Nets might try to trade him. I know we're not exactly thin in the frontcourt but I think Plumlee performed quite well when given playing time. He's quite young and still on a rookie deal.

Missing my point again. All I'm saying is that length of tenure (which was brought up several times as an argument against Skiles) is not a valid measure for a successful coach. Thibs has won nothing in 5 years with Chicago. Brooks has won nothing in 7 years with OKC. And of course you can spin this the other way around by pointing at coaches like Popovich and Jackson. It's just not a valid measure. That's all I'm saying.

Of course we should strive to be better than the norm. But that's not my point. My point is we shouldn't judge Skiles based on his average tenure length with other teams (which is already better than the norm!).

    Official Head Coach Search Thread

And people keep bringing that up even though it's completely untrue and doesn't really mean anything. Skiles was ousted in Phoenix well into his 3rd season and was ousted in Chicago/Milwaukee well into his 5th season with each team. That's hardly an average of 2-3 seasons. And even if it was it wouldn't mean anything as that seems to be the norm in the NBA. Granted, that article is from 2012 and it only looked at each team's last five coaches but I don't think the situation has changed that much. In 2008 the NY Times found similar results: So, Skiles's average tenure length is really not that bad and is not telling anything. Not everyone can have a coaching career like Popovich, Jerry Sloan or Phil Jackson. Another example: Larry Brown has been with 9 teams over his coaching career in the NBA. His average tenure length is 3 seasons. Would you consider him to be a bad coach just because of that? To clarify: I'm not trying to promote Skiles here. I just agree that the criticism of Skiles is exaggerated. And "being ousted after 2-3 years with every franchise" is not a valid argument against him in my opinion.

Shout out to all of the veterans of this board.

I've always been more of a lurker than a poster (even more so over the past year). Still wanted to drop by and say hi. :) Happy Holidays all! Go Magic!
  11. They could have given him (and the princeton offense) at least 15-20 regular season games to see how things work out. That being said, I never understood why they went with Brown over Adelman in the first place. Was it about the money? Adelman couldn't have cost them more than what they paid Phil Jackson.
  12. I'm glad that the league is finally doing something against flopping, however, I think that the approach is slightly flawed. In my opinion it would be best to review "suspicious" plays in-game and then "punish" the flopper/the flopper's team. I get that this might result in extended breaks and I'm really ok with fining floppers to teach them a lesson. But the small problem that I see is this: If the flopper's team wins by say one or two points and he gets fined after the game it won't help the team that just lost. So I think that free throws or technical foul calls would be the best way to go.
  13. This. I think jersey-ads are an awful idea. Also, if anything, seeing some brand's ugly logo ruining my favorite team's jersey will rather make a bad impression on me than make me want to support that brand's products...

    The Dwight Howard Drama Unfolds

How come we don't read Hedo's name among all those trade speculations? I thought the one advantage about trading Dwight was that we could package Hedo's albatros contract along with him. I mean, I do realize that Hedo's contract is a year shorter than Jason's... but at least Jason is somewhat productive and he earns about half of what Hedo gets per year.

    The SVG Appreciation Thread

Thanks for everything Stan! From exciting games and funny press conferences to the DPOY's and MIP's all the way to the finals! Keep speaking your mind and good luck with your next job! I'm sure the offers will pile up soon...

Sources: Howard demands SVG to be fired

It may sound cliche but I think from now on it's gonna get worse before it gets better - regardless of what decision management is going to take. If they keep SVG the locker room atmosphere will be even more uncomfortable than prior to the trade-deadline. If they decide to "let him go" they won't be able to bring in a better coach (unless they maybe bring in Phil Jackson). As much as I like Dwight as a player, right now I feel bad for Stan. He's a great coach and deserves better than to be deceived by his best player.
  17. Is it really Dwight though? Or is it the media? As much as I think that he mismanaged the whole situation this year with the upcoming free agency and everything... regarding today's news we haven't had one official word from him or his camp. So we can't really claim that he is constantly changing his mind.
  18. Not sure if this was posted already... From TrueHoop: Do you guys think this will have any effect on the forums? Where's Dan Savage?

    Mike Brown new Lakers Coach

If it wasn't for the Kobe/Shaq-Lakers (and some may argue a few questionable calls) the Kings would have won a title in the early 2000s. With a team that featured Chris Webber as their best player... As for Houston: The Rockets were injury-depleted throughout Adelman's tenure and he still got the best out of them - including that playoff-run in 2009 (without Yao/T-Mac) where they took the Lakers to 7 games. I think you're the one who is misjudging Adelman's skills here because that's certainly not "underachieving".

    Mike Brown new Lakers Coach

No offense to Mike Brown, but I never thought him to be that good of a coach. Maybe I'm missing something here but I don't see how can you pass up on Adelman in order to sign Mike Brown... Same goes for the Rockets - how can you fire Adleman and then go for Kevin McHale?!

    Ownership Committed To Winning

Obviously Vander Weide is saying all the right things. But it's also up to him/Otis to actually make them happen. The one quote I disagree with is this one: I just don't see how the long-term contracts of Turk and Gil make us a better club - especially after the performances that they have displayed since being in Orlando. And I'm actually fine with giving Otis another chance but I will be terribly disappointed if we start out next season with the same roster.

    Self made highlights video

Very nice vid! Gets me even more hyped up for the playoffs.
  23. Nice find junkie. Looking at the past three seasons (2009, 2010, 2011) I can't help but feel like this is the 'worst' (most unpredictable) team we've had. Though at the same time I think we've never had a better chance of reaching the finals than we do this year. I my opinion Miami and Chicago are not quite there yet and Boston should definitely be beatable without Perk in the middle. Will it be easy? - No, but we're having a great opportunity in front of us.
