Magic going in for Chris Paul

quote: Williams expects guard Paul to stay Williams made it clear on Tuesday that he expects his new employers to turn down whatever offers they get for their biggest star. "Chris was the main thing that excited me about this job," Williams said after a pre-draft workout Tuesday at the Hornets' suburban training center. "So many people are begging for a point guard. You're talking about the best one in the game. I couldn't envision being here without Chris." The Hornets have the 11th overall pick in Thursday night's draft and likely could move up if they decided to deal their three-time All-Star. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5316548

  3. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting it even though without many details: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/96920999.html And on the same day John Salmons is opting out of his contract: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_...ucks_hes_opting_out/ I wonder if one thing is related to the other.
  4. Here's a nice article on how persistent and widespread flopping is in soccer. It also talks about FIFA's efforts to punish floppers. quote: The forward, Abdul Kader Ke

But if you really call 28ppg, 8rpg, 4apg and 2spg a "****ing shame" then I'd like to know who'd you have given the finals MVP to? The guy with 18 points/11.6 rebounds/3.7/assists/2.6 blks, 2 less turnovers and shot 8% better from the field while being tremendous all over the court (minus the flopping). Fair enough. I guess I saw that response coming. I don't want to take anything away from Pau (or sound like a Kobe homer) because without Pau the Lakers don't win that championship. But although Pau was huge in the last two games I think his play on the road doesn't warrant the finals MVP award. IMO it was the right decision to give the award to Kobe. Not just the last two games... Pau was better in the majority of games. If that is your honest opinion I can only conclude one of two things: Either we have largely differing views of what "being better" means or you're just plain hating on Kobe here (which wouldn't surprise me given you posting history). Either way I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here.

That's 10 minutes of awesome right there. Ron is crazy.

Can we please let go of the conspiracy theories? On topic: I think it really depends where you draw the line between what is considered a flop and what is not. Yes, so far in the world cup there was only one yellow card handed out for (blatant) flopping but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of flopping action going on. Soccer players fall to the ground holding their knees/legs/head all the time. They pretend to be injured in order to get a call. And if there is no call they get up and play on like nothing happend. For me that is the definition of flopping. And you see those kind of things in every soccer game several times. I don't think NBA games have reached that level yet (fortunately). The big difference though is that floppers in basketball are being rewarded all too often while soccer refs try to ignore/punish the floppers (unless they are fooled by the flopping player).

    NBA Finals: Celtics VS Lakers

Congrats to the Lakers! I'm glad they managed to defeat the Celtics. I couldn't have standed to see Boston hoisting the trophy. Also, IMO, the more rings Kobe has over Shaq and Lebron the better.

    Should the NBA expand?

I don't think there is a lack of overall talent across the league. If anything, there is an imbalance regarding the talent-level between teams. But that has more to do with money, (mis)management and big-/small-markets. I'm not saying the league has to expand (because it really doesn't have to) but I'd be fine with 32 teams AND the return to four divisions. That would give more meaning to division rivalries, division titles and playoff-seeding that favours division-leaders. Going back to 28 teams would be another option that allows to re-introduce four divisions. But taking away two franchises seems kinda awkward and it would suck for the fan-bases you're taking them away from.
  13. quote: Nets Turn Down Dooling Deal For Beasley The Nets have rejected a trade offer from the Heat that would have sent forward Michael Beasley to New Jersey for guard Keyon Dooling, according to ESPN's Ryen Russillo. Miami doesn't consider Beasley a part of their future anymore and is even looking at lopsided trades in an effort to clear additional cap space. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_...g_deal_for_beasley/# I am quite surprised by that trade proposal. I still think that Beasley can be a decent player in this league and I feel like he could bring the Heat more than "just" Dooling. EDIT: the trade offer is now being disputed http://www.realgm.com/src_wire...red_beasley_to_nets/

    The results are in!

Well, that certainly looks better than what they predicted for us last year. And with those kind of predictions and home-court advantage I guess we can say good-bye to our "underdog"-status.

No Magic games for a week and threads about facial hair... I almost feel like the offseason has started.

Awesome, Cavs and Celtics have to duke it out in at least two more games.

    So Everybody Sweeps?

I'm thinking the Spurs and Jazz will each win their next home-game before getting bounced on the road. Last night's Jazz-Lakers game was very close and the Spurs lost their first home-game due to one bad quarter. The Hawks certainly have the potential to take one from the Magic but the way they've played last night I guess Orlando will sweep the series.
