    Magic finally gettin' some props!!

Here is what Chad Ford had to say in an ESPN Insider article about NBA team's summer moves: 2. Orlando Magic Key additions: Vince Carter, Ryan Anderson, Brandon Bass, Matt Barnes Key subtractions: Hedo Turkoglu, Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston, Tony Battie In limbo: Adonal Foyle (U), Tyronn Lue (U) The Magic decided to throw financial caution to the wind this summer and went on a spending spree. The result is one of the deepest teams in the league and one that should challenge for the NBA championship again next season. For starters, they essentially swapped Turkoglu and Lee for Carter and Anderson. The gamble was that Turkoglu wasn't worth the $50 million he was looking for in the free-agent market and that Carter, whose contract has only two years of guaranteed money remaining, can do as good a job (or better) as Turkoglu. The addition of Bass also helps. The Magic desperately needed toughness, rebounding and depth at the 4, and Bass delivers on all accounts. Barnes provides more depth and 3-point shooting at small forward. But the big move was the Magic's deciding to match Marcin Gortat's huge offer sheet from the Mavs. Without Gortat, the Magic would have had virtually no depth at center. Now, with him back in the mix, they are deep at virtually every position and look like the favorites to win the East. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At least there are some people out there wise enough to not write off our new lineup!

    Keyon Dooling please.

I'd love to have Dooling back on our team - he's the sparkplug kinda player every team needs, but I was wondering who the 2 other PG's you were referring to are? quote: Originally posted by ThuglifeJ:Most of us know Dooling from his days in Orlando. But last year he developed into a great backup PG for D harris. Now the Nets have Harris, Alston, Dooling, Ager, Hassel all who primarly play Point Gaurd. the new and improved Keyon is lights out from 3 pt, and a lock down defender. Yes he is a lock down defender now. .421 3PT 9.7 PPG 3.5 AST 2.0 TRB 1.0 STL his salary is around 3.5$ Mill I'm pretty sure. Now with Harris AND Alston, 2 starting PGs I dont see why the nets would need a PG like Dooling who now wont get any minutes. Plus they have 2 Other point gaurds. I think he'd be an insane backup for Jameer, seeing as he's as good of a 3 pt shooter and a Better defender. O btw, Dooling can throw it down big time. I dont see how we couldnt make it happen with a trade or something. Like sign a FA n trade him with JJ. Dooling played SG quite a bit for the Nets as well.

TPE CANNOT be traded w/ a player!!!

Yes it can - as with the Ryan Anderson trade, where we used a portion to trade for him and had about 2 mil left (since expired) quote: Originally posted by BRich:confirmation needed: can it be broken up or not? I've read conflicting reports.

TPE CANNOT be traded w/ a player!!!

I wasn't trying to single anyone out or start a thread against other's wishes, but after seeing the suggestion a multitude of times, I figured it wouldn't hurt to get the facts out there - let's face it, with the FA season winding down, it's gonna get pretty boring and there's probably going to be a lot of "What if" trade scenarios thrown around. Once again, sorry if anyone took it personal or didn't agree with the new topic. quote: Originally posted by tdcc02:when i posted i didnt mean along with gortat. i meant we have pieces including the TPE AND gortat. sorry for the misunderstanding.

TPE CANNOT be traded w/ a player!!!

I am only starting this discussion because I have been constantly reading people's ideas of adding the Turkoglu TPE to an outgoing player's contract to bring back a major player. I know that this TPE fact has been repeated over and over again on the forum, but I guess that some people are only posting and not reading. If you feel like locking this thread it's fine with me, just thought that maybe seeing it in a headline might make it stick in people's minds a little better.

    Black jerseys?

Well as I was slowly typing that whole post you guys answered my question....DOH!

    Black jerseys?

Last year we petitioned the NBA for an alternate home uniform color (Black), but were denied. I'm sorry that I can't provide a link, but I read an article that said our request was denied, but I wasn't able to find a reason why. It's so stupid, for several reasons: 1) Think of how many teams have more than 2 (Boston, Cleveland, Washington...) and 2) Why would the NBA care - they get a % of the profits from all NBA gear sales, no matter which color it is!!! But I totally agree w/ you that black uni's would be AWESOME! I wear my throwback black pinstripe more that any other jersey I have.
  10. Maybe I'm mistaken, so feel free to correct me if I mess this up, but can't TPE's be combined, along w/ cash and/or incentives, such as draft pick(s)to acquire a player. If that's the case, we have a Mike Wilks exception, and the remainder of Dooling's Exception, totalling about $2.85 mil that could be used in a S&T w/ GSW if we need to get more money to CJ. Thoughts??
  11. As far as I can tell from several sources (nba.com, oakland tribune, espn nba trade machine), the warriors have 14 guys under contract without CJ, so matching for him would give them a full roster. Their other FA is Rob Kurz, so they wouldn't be able to keep him - not sure if they were going to or not, but it is worth noting. P.S. Is it possible to change user names or is it automatically the email address registered to the user account?

    Why sell a second rounder???

Second round picks are not guaranteed contracts and thus don't count against the cap. Why don't the Magic try to be more like the Spurs & Suns and scout foreign players that can be kept overseas to further develop and then brought over after they blossom. No, instead we use a lottery pick on the likes of Fran Vasquez, who had NO intentions of coming over right away!!! I hope the cash considerations were considerable for this pick. Guess there'll be no Manu Ginobli in our future.
