The Official J.J. Redick Appreciation Thread

As hard as I was on him during his first two years in the league, he quickly turned me into a fan, and more recently became my favorite player on the Magic. When I broke the trade news to my four year old, he started crying. Needless to say, JJ's grit, determination, professionalism, and leadership through example will be missed by all.
  2. Dwight's heart, Dwight's character, Dwight's commitment to the team, Dwight's professionalism were all massively overrated. His talent, however, is not.
  3. I'll take Hedo Turkoglu for $100 Alex.
  4. I would never wish a career ending injury on anybody...but if it were to happen, I would celebrate like hell.

Everyone should consider the business side of this trade as well. No way Devos signs off on a plan of paying top dollar for a mediocre, playoff pergatory product.

Bynum best center in the league?

LAL by far is the favorite to win an NBA title this year. The team that they have BOUGHT is unparalleled in the league (although the LT penalty will be severe and will continue to grow punitivelywith time). Not even the defending champs in MIA can hold the Lakers jock right now. The other part of this discussion, the comparison of Bynum and Howard demonstrates once more why ESPN is a joke. I don't know how many times over the last few years I've been forced to listen to the ESPN pundits argue that Dwight is little more than a one dimensional player that lacks the ability to create for himself, create for teammates, or finish at the free throw line. Meanwhile, Bynum has been hailed as the 2nd coming of Hakeem. Now that Howard is the one wearing the purple and gold, ESPN hasn't stopped talking about how Bynum is a distant 2nd best to Howard.

Trade Details to stop the negativity

The thing about the Nuggets trade is, you realize how much better the original suurounding cast was WITHOUT Melo around. This is where the praise is generated from IMO. The criticism - Even though the Nuggets are placed on a pedestal for the pieces they received by jettisoning their franchise player, what did they actually accomplish? They were the 5th seed and lost in the 1st round of the playoffs in 2010-11. They were the 6th seed and lost again in the first round of the playoffs this past season. Is that what we want here in Orlando? To be a middle of the pack playoff team that doesn't stand a chance of winning a playoff series, much less a title?

Trade Details to stop the negativity

Personally, I tink it's hilarious that the Magic are getting slammed for this trade when the Nuggets have been praised from Denver to the pearly white gates for the deal they pulled off. Nuggets deal: Carmelo, Billups, Williams, Carter and Balkman for Chandler, Felton, Gallinari, Mozgov, (1) first round pick, (2) 2nd round picks, and 3million cash. Magic deal: Dwight, JRich, Duhon, Earl Clark for Aflalo, Harrington, Josh McRoberts, Christian Eyenga, Nicola Vucevic, Moe Harkless, (3) first round picks, (2) 2nd round picks, and a reported 17mil TPE Comparison going out: The Nuggets traded away (2) hall of fame players, and provided the Knicks with either cap relief in the form of Billups. Carter was a couple million worth of cap relief, and Balkman was a previous first round pick. The Magic traded away an all-world center, but also unburdened themselves of two Otis follies. The inclusion of Earl Clark is a bit frustrating since young players with upside that play on the cheap are seemingly what we need to rebuild, but you never know what was demanded of us to make things work, or if Earl's inclusion specifically garnered us more in a return package. Comparison coming back: The Nuggets received Chandler, a 7.4mil per season 13ppg guy, similar to what the Magic received in Aflalo. Felton who was underwhelming in a Nuggets jersey and unhappy about being underutilized alongside rookie Ty Lawson, was parlayed into Andre Miller & the #26pick in the very next draft. The Magic can similarly trade veteran Harrington away for compensation in the form of additional picks, or use his non-guaranteed, soon to expire contract as additional cap space. The Nuggets plucked overrated, injury risk Gallinari from the Knicks. Gallinari has missed roughly 50 games, 30 games and 20 games respectively in three of his four NBA seasons while averaging 15ppg and 5rpg. The Magic have added Moe Harkless, who hasn't stepped foot on an NBA court yet, but who was one of the most talked about players to improve his draft status during workouts. The Nuggets received Mozgov and the Magic received Vucevic - a push. Out of what's remaining from the two deals, the Magic severely have the upperhand. The Nuggets got the expiring contract of Anthony Carter, we got the expiring contract of Josh McRoberts. The Nuggest received (3) picks, the Magic received (5) picks. The Nuggets received 3million cash, The Magic received a 17mil TPE. The cherry on top for the Magic is high flying dunk machine Eyenga. IMO, the Magic deal is CLEARLY better than the Nuggets deal, leading me to ask, do the Magic ever get a fair shake with the media?

    Dwight Howard Appreciation Thread

Dwight has humiliated himself, betrayed his image, and proven that there are even fewer honorable athletes in the world of professional sports than the miniscule number originally believed to be true. Next year, I will be the guy in row 4 wearing a #12 Magic jersey with the name "COWARD" on it. Anybody with enough time and understanding of the internet, I will personally fund the creation of www.dwightCoward.com. Our empire will be endless.

    The SVG Appreciation Thread

It's much worse than that. SVG worked at his Amway office until 2AM the day he was fired. He received a call at 3AM that he was fired. Not only do they not have the decency to fire him face to face, but they wait all day and all night for him to leave his office before showing him the door. Classless!!!!

    The SVG Appreciation Thread

It is truly a shame that NBA coaches are not permitted to demand that their players be accountable, disciplined professionals.
  13. I keep wondering if either POR or NO would trade us both of their lottery picks and a player for a Dwight rental? POR's picks/Batum for Dwight/Hedo (I believe POR can absorb the extra salaries) NO's picks/Ariza for Dwight/Hedo I'd pretty much do anything to get rid of Dwight right now.

Dwight needs to hang out with Tim Duncan

Remember waaayyyy back, when Otis said he wanted to model our franchise after the Spurs??? Poppovich/Buford -vs- Weisbrod/Otis Poppovich -vs- BHill/SVG Robinson -vs- Tree Rollins Duncan -vs- Dwight Tony Parker -vs- Jameer Manu -vs- VC/JRich Now look at the Spurs draft history: Pick37, Dejaun Blair Pick26, George Hill Pick 45, Goran Dragic Pick28, Tiago Splitter Pick28, Leandro Barbosa Pick26, John Salmons Pick55, Luis Scola Pick28, Tony Parker Pick 57, Manu Ginobli The Magic on the other hand chose to not workout or interview draft candidates, and probably would have been better off playing pin the tail on the draft pick. In the end, Otis' strategy to model our team after San Antonio, ironically resembles Santa Anna's blunder at the Alamo - void of any discernable purpose.
  15. Keep both JJ and Ryno while scrapping the remainder of this awful roster - especially Dwight.

    Time to Fire Otis Smith???

The guy that once proselytized Orlando with a message of "building a championship mentallity through chemistry" and sticktoitiveness, suddenly converted into trade half your roster each season and see what happens type of guy. Flashy, sure. But it's no wonder his congregation has disappeared and his alter is in flames. I'd fire Otis based purely on the Chris Duhon signing. Seriously, the guy that just averaged .8ppg, 1.5ast, 1.5reb, and 1.5to in 13mpg during the playoffs, was Otis' 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice in free agency that year. Other notable gaffes: Drafting Fran Vasquez Not using multiple Trade Exceptions Not waiting til the deadline to trade VC when his 16mil expiring would have had serious value, instead trading away Pietrus, VC, & Gortat for Hedo, JRich, Clark. What other Otis moves do you guys dislike?

Dwight wants trade after season is over

This discussion has nothing to do with me playing high school & college ball. This isn't me saying, since I played ball in school, I know about back pain. It has to do with spending the last 20 years in dozen's of orthoepedist offices hearing a myriad of recommended solutions to my ongoing back and neck troubles. It has to do with undergoing the same surgery that Dwight just did - twice. It has to do with playing through the pain, managing the pain, and ultimately succumbing to the pain - when I was in my mid 30's, not at peak physical condition as Dwight is. If a world class athlete can't play through the pain that I did for 10-15 years for even 10-15 days, then what does that tell you?

Dwight wants trade after season is over

I am in complete agreement with you. Otis has put this organization in check with 29 other teams ready to put us in checkmate. The other options at center are not that appealing. Ideally Dwight gets healthy, repairs all the broken relationships that he has served continually to undermine here in Orlando, and begins playing with a purpose greater than himself once more. However, if he doesn't wish to remain in Orlando, I am interested to hear what your alternatives to having Dwight in blue and white are? Who fills his shoes? What salaries are acceptable when replacing the most dominant center of this generation?

Dwight wants trade after season is over

Most average starting centers make 7-10 million+ per season. Horford makes 12mil, Diop makes 7mil, Noah's contract averages 12mil, Haywood's contract averages 9mil, Bogut makes 13mil, Dalambert makes 7mil, Jordan makes 10mil, Marc Gasol makes 13mil, Okafor makes 13mil, Chandler makes 13mil, Bargnani makes 10mil, Nene makes 13mil. Therefore 10million at the center position really shouldn't be considered an albatross. Note: Gortat and Kendrick Perkins look like the only bargains at the C position league wide (not on rookie contracts). Whether Dwight is traded or walks as a free agent without compensation, his salary will be replaced by another player's salary at the starting C position. What player/contract would you find acceptable to replace Dwight with?

Dwight wants trade after season is over

I'm not saying Dwight doesn't need surgery. But it could have been postponed until the postseason concluded. That's the beauty of disk injuries. 90% of the time treatment is all that is required to nullify the injury. Typically you don't perform surgery until 2-3 months of treatment first. So why the rush to go under the knife? Especially when surgical recovery time for this procedure maxes out at 4-6 weeks, and that is for the average citizen, not a physical specimen like Dwight. The timing and immediacy of all this is really peculiar. His complete and utter absence on any front in the wake of one of the Magic's biggest emotional victories in years is telling.
  21. SmackDaddy

Dwight wants trade after season is over

The stats demonstrate that half of all people diagnosed with a herniated disk recover fully within 1 month without requiring surgery. This does not speak to the amount of time that it would take Dwight to recover and play without surgery, as you misinterpreted. It speaks to the lack of severity that this type of injury represents in its entirety. Does it hurt like heck? Yes. Does it require treatment? Yes. Is it a career ending, dabilitating injury that will grow more severe without immediate surgery when you're Dwight's age? No! A herniated disk, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, etc, are all convenient excuses for modern day athletes to place more importance on preserving their paycheck rather than competing with bumps and bruises. Do I have a PHD as an orthopedist to accurately diagnose a herniated disk when someone complains of backpain? Nope. But as somebody that has now herniated 6 disks from my neck down to my lower back, I can sure as heck tell you everything you need to know about treatment options, surgical options, recovery time, etc. Once you've lived it first hand for 20 years and sponged info from dozens of doctors on the subject, it makes you every bit the expert as the person that has studied it for 20 years. Dwight punked out on his teammates and this city this year. Plain and simple. Keep in mind, Dwight is the centerpiece of my sig for a reason. It's because I once thought that he stood for all the good, admirable things he professed to believe in. Now, I think he has turned into just another weak, spoiled, emotionally under-developed, cry baby, diva like the majority of his NBA associates.

Dwight wants trade after season is over

"About 50% of people with a herniated disc in the low back recover within 1 month. And within 6 months, 96% recover. Only 10% of people with herniated disc problems that cause noticeable symptoms eventually have surgery." It's all relative. I was not playing against grown men, nor was I a grown man physically trained to perform against other grown men. I also was not paid (handsomely) to perform and chose instead to play through a severe injury for the love of the game. Mostly because herniated disk pain can be managed and played through in nearly all circumstances. It really boils down to desire. Let's not get this twisted. Dwight chose to have surgery at a very convenient time for himself, and a very inconvenient time for his teammates. Not because the injury is career threatening, not because next season will be lost if he doesn't attend to the injury ASAP, but because he doesn't have the heart to compete when faced with adversity. He has demonstrated this time and again on the court, and this year has demonstrated it in spades off the court.

Sources: Howard demands SVG to be fired

I don't really think Lopez is all that soft. He's just not the beast that Dwight is - frankly nobody is. On top of that, there really aren't any players that would compare to Dwight. The thought process here is that if Dwight has bailed on the organization it would be best to receive some compensation. We could do a lot worse than Lopez, Brooks and future 1st rounders. Hell, I'd take Cousins, their first round pick and any other servicable player off their roster.

I played an entire season with a herniated disk that Jewiit recommended surgery for during my junior year of high school, and I wasn't being paid 20mil a season to play.
