What is his body fat %, and where did you find his measurements? I haven't had much luck finding combine stats yet.

Probably not, as we don't have any real cap room to sign him to an offer sheet (RFA) unless we waive Ross, Vuc, and Martin, which would still only bring us to about $15M. Even then, Boston could still match, leaving us with nothing. Also, it would mean we already gave up on developing Fultz. Rozier already has shown he isn't happy/comfortable as a bench player.

Very true, that other teams have mostly caught up to the Spurs as far as international scouting has gone. I tend to agree that 2nd round picks have limited value, and most guys picked there do tend to bounce around before getting it together. I'm not saying we need to load up on 2nd round picks, just that with our current front office they may have more value now than they did in the past.

I think the real point is that good management is able to find those second round contributors with more consistency, that is part of how they establish themselves. The Spurs are good at it, and used the late second round for "draft and stash" players. It is no accident that 40% of the MIL/TOR starting lineups are 2nd round picks, 20% are "late" second round picks. It is a testament to the management of the teams that found them. They were selected by Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, and the Lakers (Gasol, who was immediately part of the trade package for his brother!). It is promising to me that WeltHam had a hand in one of those 2nd rounders, and found Giannis with #15. It says something about their ability to assess talent. So, I think that your point about little value at the end of the second round is a little simplistic; finding value there is definitely difficult, it isn't there every year, it has to fit your team, and the odds for finding it greatly depend on who is doing the looking. I think we may finally have the right guys in charge to be able to find it, now it is a matter of the rest. We don't have a lot of slots open right now, even if we did find it, now you have to find a space for it. You don't give up an Iwundu for a late 2nd rounder who gives you 75% of what he does, there isn't a real value there; but if you find someone who gives you more than Frazier, you consider waiving him and opening his slot up.

It is interesting that the top player on each team was the #15 pick in their respective drafts, but is it anything?!?

If he comes in to workouts/interviews 10-12 pounds lighter, I absolutely take him; conversely, if he shows up weighing 250, I probably take him off my list of prospects.

Nice read, and does a good job of balancing the flashes he's shown so far without going overboard. I think once this kid gets in an NBA strength and conditioning program, we will see a lot more of those flashes. I'm relatively high on this kid, and would be okay with him at the #16. A guy who can swing from PG/SG/SF and even some small-ball PF strikes me as a nice piece to have. I'm anxious to see how he measures out at the combine.

Welcome to the club-I first mentioned this kid back in mid-February. I’m not sure if he is going to be a good fit for what we’re building, but a definite dark-horse that I wouldn’t be surprised to see us grab at #16. He does strike me as a WeltHam kind of player.

He’s a couple years away from starting, with a high ceiling; but is projected to go 8-12. I doubt he falls to 16.

I don't think we are going to find too many surprises now until the draft combine - there are always some guys measurements that we don't expect; height, wingspan, vertical, speed, etc. And then, there are usually a few guys that play better (or worse) in the scrimmages. I don't expect many (if any) surprises between now and then, as individual workouts/interviews don't usually happen until after the combine. There just isn't that much organized basketball for the potential draftees to be playing in right now. It's mostly just individuals working out, and maybe occasional pickup games, but not much for us to hear about/see right now.

I'd rather lose both than overpay both, especially Vuc.

Just noticed this through Spotrac - did you know Vooch made an extra $500,000 bonus this year for making the all-star team?

I find it very interesting, as it could be taken either way. Either 1) We didn't realize that TRoss and Vooch were close friends. We all know that Vooch and Fournier are buddies, just didn't think Ross was too. I would hate to lose TRoss, but not as much as I would hate to overpay both he and Vooch to keep them. Or, 2) Does TRoss see what we do, and thinks that if we re-sign Vooch to a big contract after his disappearance in the playoffs, it means we aren't serious about making the necessary (tough) moves to continue to improve? Of course, it could be more of a commentary on watching how we negotiate with Vooch; do we treat him with respect/honesty, do we deliberately low-ball him so he walks, etc.

And if our front office interviews him and is happy with his answers for the USC debacle(s), then I would be okay with drafting him; but I think there are a couple of red flags that would need to be questioned/addressed ahead of time. I feel like, no interview/workout, no way we draft him. I think the physical/basketball talent is there, just concerned about the mental aspect with him.

You are correct, my error. I didn't realize he still had a player option for 20/21.

I tend to agree, that you will not get there if you keep starting Fournier and pay Vucevic long term crazy money. I think we need to re-sign Ross, and look for trades for Fournier. I am on the fence with Vucevic. If we can re-sign him to a reasonable amount for a 2-3 year deal, we probably do it. I think Bamba, and to a certain extent Isaac need another year of development before they are truly ready to take control of this team. Giving Vuc a reasonable contract that we might be able to trade in a year or two, once the young guys have developed, might be the way to go. If his gains this year are real improvements based on work and coaching, then it is not crazy to think he can still improve. He hasn't had a solid team, and solid coaching around him for 6-7 years. If the price gets too high, I think we let him walk and try to fill with the MLE - maybe a one-year deal with a Gortat, or a couple years of Dedman. I am frankly more disappointed with Fournier than I am with Vuc. I have seen no improvement with Fournier at all this year, in point of fact, he seems to have regressed. Hopefully, next year being the last of his contract will bring out the best, and a possible trade to move him. If not, we move on from him. I think Ross at a 4/$56M would be great for our team, and with him either leading our bench, or possibly taking Fournier's starting spot, the transition would be fairly seamless. If we can hold off on waiving Mozgov until we are into the season, then both he and Fournier come off the books next summer, helping set up that financial flexibility you are hoping for.

I have to agree, though I think we may have Augustin in the starting rotation for the beginning of the year, and move to Fultz as he becomes more comfortable with the team/coaching staff. Assuming he recovers, of course.

In a heartbeat. I think it’ll probably take 3/$45M or 4/$60M to get it done; and I’m okay with that.
