Magic going in for Chris Paul

My question to NOLA management in the presser: How are Darren Collison and Chris Paul going to coexist on this team due to playing time? I feel for Collison because he's going to be on the bench all year.

Game. Set. Match. Game, Blouses. That's all folks. Strike 3 . . .

Do you think Devos will pay for a second perennial all-star? I definitely think so.

Plus, um...Chris Wallace???? I mean, superstar players pout all the time. Hell, Nick Young is probably pouting because he doesn't get enough playing time. The only reason we are hearing about it is because it's Chris Paul. You just helped make my point. We are talking about the best point guard in the league (when age is factored in) and he is pulling this stunt with TWO YEARS left on his contract! He wants to be just like his buddies. And look...I'd like him on our team...I just don't like what is means for the power the star players have over the competitive balance of the league. I have to agree with you. At least Lebron and Bosh leaving was completely within their right. They were free agents and it was their choice to leave. That's part of the business. Chris is still under contract and shouldn't be doing this. At the very least do it behind closed doors. I don't mind because it might bring him to the Magic. But, it's still not right.

Agreed. The only other scenario I see is that they don't trade him now because they're hoping the team can get off to a hot start which might give CP3 more confidence in the team/ownership. Then if that doesn't happen, they trade him around the deadline or next offseason.

VC, the expiring contract that isn't

That's an interesting thought about VC's contract. I had no idea he had a partially guaranteed contract for that last year. That really explains why no one wants his contract right now. They don't want to pay a full season's salary AND his partial guarantee for the next season. That's a lot of money paid to someone you want to get rid of. Although, it still is an expiring. On another note, I think any trade with NOLA will almost certainly include anderson. He is our top "prospect" and has a very reasonable contract. Bass being included instead would have to be due to his contract and making it match.

The issue with trading with the Knicks is that they don't have enough big salary guys to make a big trade. You know NOLA wants to shed some of those big contracts and NY can't do it with out sending like 5 guys and then that only gets them 2 players. Outiside of Curry's 11mil expiring, there isn't much else of any size.

How much worse is Nelson than CP3?

quote: Originally posted by mongoose: We won't give up Meer for CP3, you can guarantee that. Why would we give up our heart of the team for a guy that doesn't even want to stay on his own team? There's no arguing CP3's a better PG, but who's a better player? That's quite an argument. I guess there is an argument to be made there, but in what way is Paul different than any other superstar on a crappy team. KG was on a mediocre Wolves team for nearly his whole career and I'm sure he regrets the "loyalty" he showed them by hanging around. McGrady got out because we weren't going over the hump. In the end, Chris has to do what he feels is best for his career. Most likely, that means leaving. If you spin that argument around, you could say he is doing them a favor by saying he wants to leave. At least they can get something in return rather than "Lebroning" them. Lets not forget that NOLA management haven't exactly done what they said they would. They were supposed to be players in this free agency but yet they haven't even talked to anyone. And according to hoopshype and a source close to Cp3, this is affecting his decision.

@Dreamingincolors In one sense, I completely understand where you're coming from. Meer had a good postseason and really picked up his game closer to where he was before his shoulder injury. But what Jameer does well, Chris does better. I don't like giving away a player we've drafted that has turned into such a solid, borderline allstar. But if we can obtain a perennial allstar, we have to do it. The comparison I like to make is lets say you have Joe Johnson (before his max deal) and Kobe becomes available. Who would you rather have on your team? As far as having a player who can create for this team. Chris does it better than anyone in the game. He knows how to set up his team for success and gets players in positions to do their best. On a team that is set up with so many shooters, a great passer like Chris would be a huge boost for this offense. How many times have you watched a game and an open shooter was overlooked because Meer couldn't see him? That doesn't happen with Chris. But a go to scorer has me thinking. This is where the type of trade would come into play. Originally I was all for Meer+VC for Paul+Okafor. But the more I think about it, the more I would like us to try and make this move without giving up VC (and his contract). Cp3 won't put the jump back in Vince's legs but he would be a good complement and if it doesn't work, we can still move him at the deadline.

Magic going in for Chris Paul

By the beard of Zeus! This thread's going to be a lot of replies about nothing. There won't be any big news on this subject til Monday at the earliest. I'm just happy we're in the sweepstakes. I mean how could CP3 not want to come here. D12+CP3 has to be one of the most devastating duos ever put together.

$5 Seating in the New Arena? How does that work?

lol @ the season tickets being less than $300. It must have a pretty rough view. Although, I'd buy the ticket then go to the lounge and watch the game. It would be like paying a cover at a bar to see it except you're live.
  16. I have no problem with Vince as a player on this team. But, I'm afraid of what will happen if we don't get rid of his contract now. There's a very good chance that we won't get great value in return at the deadline since it will appear to other teams that we are desperate. If we don't get rid of the contract at the deadline, we risk him leaving and going elsewhere and we'll be stuck being over the cap with little flexibility to bring in big talent.
  17. Hmm...Then maybe we should do this trade and if he starts playing terrible or gets hurt, we can hook him up with Goose Givens to hang out even though he got acquitted.
  18. Arenas' past history got me thinking. If he was to get into some kind of off court trouble, is there any precedent for being able to waive his salary from our payroll? Or paying him but it not counting against the cap? For example, if he was to go to jail.

It makes me want to get up and dance.
  20. quote: Originally posted by chen dynasty: 1st post...this trade has me thinking. If washington is indeed willing to include their first round pick (high pick), otis might use it in a package with jameer and gortat along with our first round pick for chris paul. this enables us to put together a reasonable trade straight up for paul. so now, we take on arenas contract instead of okafors, which is much more logical to me. of course this hinges on NO accepting the trade. my 2 cents. That's an interesting thought and it's certainly plausible. Could this be Otis' evil genius plan? I'm not going to get my hopes up. But I'd like to move VC in the offseason while we still have leverage. The closer to the deadline it gets, teams will be less likely to give us a lot because they know we're desperate.

He's the franchise player and no one expects him to hit a high percentage from the FT line. Now if he starts missing dunks, then I might have something to say. The team loses games because of his poor FT%. That's a childish and stupid post, little boy. Teams will continue the hack-a-howard strategy until his FTs get better. Obviously. My point is that he has never been good at that aspect of the game. So why expect it now? However, Vince has hit clutch shots in the fourth and hits his fts so we expect him to play up to what he is capable of.

  23. I have mixed feelings about this trade. For me, it comes down to the details. Is there a third team? If so, what does Gortat (or others) bring in? Is there a first round pick included? If so, is it protected and in what year? If it's possible to trade VC for Gilbert and we get an unprotected first round pick next year, then how could you not pull this trade. Even though Gilbert's contract hurts, a top 5 pick in the draft next year more than makes up for it.

I just found that interesting. With the current roster, I don't think Peaches comes off the bench. He's definitely the starter at the beginning of the season over Qberto. Peaches seems to play better when coming off the bench I agree. But Qberto is an unknown and we're not sure what he can do in this system. We'll start this season just like last and have peaches start, then make adjustments as the season progresses.
