I will never understand why everyone insists on blaming Otis. It was his job to put the team together not to run it from the sideline.

I'm not blaming Otis Smith for crap just so you know. Who would trade Darko and Trevor for Vince Carter anyway. Otis Smith is being blackmailed into keeping Brian Hill as coach in my opinion. How would Otis Smith's contract taste is what I would want to know.

Ok, I responded to your quote because you worded it the same way that you do with Brian Hill (whom I assume you don't approve of). It wasn't an attack or anything. If people want to hold Otis responsible for the season that is their right. I just don't understand it because he has done a good job IMO.

That turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We would be stuck with Michael Olakawandi (I just butchered his name) right now.

If we offered Garrity a buyout would it count against the cap?

Looking back do you think it would have been less painful to have received the kung-fu grip?

There wouldn't be any debate on a possible management change. Sgt Slaughter is the man.

  4. Magicman you keep preaching about how fans should speak their mind and yet you respond like this.

Maybe you can explain to me why you insist on picking on JD. The guy says maybe 10 to 15 words max in his posts and yet you have decided to single him out. Why? Because you think you can make yourself look good. Well the only thing you've accomplished is to make yourself look like a jack*ss.

Your whole clique theory is absurd and merely an excuse for you to continue to stand up on your soapbox and keep talking. Almost everyone here (including myself) has gotten into it with another member. Hell, Smack and I got into it over JJ Redick during the summer. If there is anyone here that seems intolerant of other peoples opinions it looks like its you. I can now see why Smack can't stand you.

  5. Hmmm...how have I never seen this thread before?

Anyways, I started off as a Celtics fan when I was little. I used to love Bird and Mchale although I was too young to see them in their prime. The 80's did wonders for the game of basketball. Bird, Magic, Jordan, Erving they almost seem larger than life.

I almost instantly became a Magic fan when the franchise was born. My folks didn't have cable so the only games I saw was the Sunday games and the Magic games that aired on the WB. I instantly loved Skiles because he didn't look like he should be a professional basketball player much less a pretty good one. My dad bumped into Marc Acres and got an autograph from him that I still have. I'm waiting for the day that its value skyrockets and then its going on ebay. lol By the time Shaq and Penny rolled into town I was a full fledge fanactic.

Who knows he might impress but I don't see what there is to lose.

Pat Garrity's the man! You're just jealous of his amazing skill. His grace and athleticism are second to none...

He would be if he played for the PR national team. lol

People, this is getting out of hand! Racist this, and racist that. WOW!!!! People we are fans of the Magic and of course we have our favorite players too. We can express ourselves but when we start with this crap its down right silly. By the way I'm a freaken Rican but a magic fan first. I was a fan before Arroyo came here and still will be after he is gone. I like Arroyo and hope he can turn it around and get to play, but if not the show must go on!

Then we aren't talking about you Fern. I have no problems with anyone of different discent. This is strictly a basketball disagreement.

  9. I'll field your question Rafael. The Larry Brown situation is a complex one. He is extremely intelligent with X's and O's but he can be hard on his players. Alot of his success is therefore is determined on the type of players that he is coaching. He came somewhat close in Philly (they got to the Finals) and if you look at the team it was full of lunch pail type of players. Eric Snow, Aaron Mckie, and Mutombo are hardworking consumate proffessional type of players. Larry Brown was very hard on AI and it wore the relationship thin. However they are close today. In the Olympics Iverson made a comment saying that he never appreciated Brown until he was gone. It should be pointed out as well that while Iverson was neve big on practice he always brought it on gameday.

The same could be said for Detroit. Brown was very hard on Billups (to the point that Chauncey will to Dumars several times saying that he couldn't play for Brown) but in the end they managed to come to a compromise and it made Billups the player that he is today. The rest of the team was chocked full of hardnosed, tough players that busted their butts on defense and again brought it every night. The difference was that this team had considerably more talent than the Philly team and was able to match up with LA.

I think alot of Brown success is determined by the pg that he has to work with. Billups and Snow were very good at doing their jobs. If you look at NY you have the complete opposite in Marbury. Here is a guy that thinks everything should revolve around him and quite frankly everything should be handed to him. It was clear before Brown even took the Knicks job that there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell of the relationship working. Looking at the rest of the roster it wasn't much better. Francis, Jerome James, and Curry are all lazy.

Larry Brown did by far his worst coaching job with the Knicks. I don't want it to sound like it wasn't his fault. It is easy to see some of the reasons that it didn't work though. The roster consisted of disgruntled veterans and rookies that just isn't a roster that Brown liked to use. It wasn't a good fit.

  10. Hutchence what you are suggesting is based on logic and that means you must be wrong. Only blind faith is allowed on these boards. Clearly Brian Hill is a racist (and all of us for agreeing with him) and a huge Arroyo conspiracy is taking place.

Right now the hispanic media is talking about Arroyos benching. We all know not all is pink on todays business.

Really!?! Would you be willing to start today by not posting here anymore? That would be a great start.

I have to give credit to Bhnole and JD because I will the first to admit that I didn't think Dooling could play the pg position full time. The jury is still out whether he can or not but last night was a great start.

It was only a matter of time before Fidel got drawn into the conversation.

  13. Its ok for you guys to come on day after day and tell us how bad Jameer is but when we tell you that Arroyo is equally bad then we are "Arroyo haters". Wow thats a double standard if I ever heard one. I wish we could somehow get a white guy on the PR national team so that I can post continuously on that board how great he is. It doesn't matter if he plays well, hurts the team at all. My only logic will be based on a boxscore that I can tilt any way I want to support my points and the equally absurd point that he would do better with more minutes.

There is a reason that everyone is lashing out against the Arroyo lovers. Its the same reason that you guys were hated on the Jazz and Pistons sites as well. You don't use logic or basketball IQ instead prefering to base your support on blind love. Well its gotten old on this board as well.

I don't know what your history was with Smack and honestly I don't care. I read your response and to say that you went overboard is a understatement. BJ made a thoughtful concise point and although I don't agree with his opinion I respect him for posting it. You on the other hand called him an idiot just because he disagreed with you. The point of the forum is to share ideas not rip people for having a differing view.

  15. Those are very valid points man. I sometimes think that we are a little too quick to jump on our point guards much like we are sometimes to quick to jump on the coach (most of the time its his fault but not always). I only saw the 3rd and 4th quarters but when Jameer was in he didn't over dribble and the offense was flowing but guys weren't making shots. It also seemed to me that the Jazz were building momentum before Jameer even got into the game. Dooling was clearly tired and Jameer did a decent job last night. That alleyoop pass to Dwight was huge.

  16. To add on to what Fendi was saying there was a reason that we got so many running opportunites. Dooling with his ball pressure was a big key in forcing turnovers and leading to a shortened shot clock for the Jazz to work with. Dooling played outstanding defense on a very good pg in Deron Williams.

I haven't seen Arroyo lock anyone down all year. Go ahead someone tell me how great Arroyo was in the Olympics.

  17. I still have my doubts after the victory. We did let the Jazz come all the way from a huge deficit with only 5 minutes left. All in all though I would definitely have to say it was a step in the right direction. We beat a very good team and regardless of whether they were tired or not it was a need that we desperately needed. It also put us back in 8th in the playoffs and only a game behind the Nets for 7th.

The lineup changes were innovative and seemed to work well. It will be interesting to see how Darko will get integrated back into the offense. The new pick and roll offense could be very effective if Napoleon would be willing to take the handcuffs off of Darko and let him shoot. I loved the spacing on the court last night. Sure we didn't sink any 3's but it wasn't a coincidence that Dwight had his best statistical game of the season last night. Playing 45 minutes didn't hurt either.

The key now is to see if the team can take this momentum and extend it. Take what you learned and continue to do it. This team might make the playoffs yet.

  18. I'm not convinced that Dooling is the answer at the backup pg, yet. He played very well last night and with the exception of some turnovers later in the 4th quarter when he was clearly tiring he made good decisions. I saw a very rare phenomina last night. The Magic ran the pick and roll and the ball moved to the open guy! What a crazy concept and it actually worked. I can hear John Stockton screaming duh as I type this.

If Dooling can keep playing at this level at the point then Otis has even more decisions to make. He will have 2 point guards that will be potential free agents and Arroyo. Does he trade Arroyo and resign Dooling or Diener? A complicated situation might have become even more complex.
