Magic going in for Chris Paul

quote: Hornets new coach doesn't want Paul traded By BRETT MARTEL The Associated Press Tuesday, June 22, 2010; 5:16 PM WESTWEGO, La. -- Hornets coach Monty Williams says Chris Paul was "the main thing" that excited him about taking his new job and that he could not envision entering next season without the three-time All Star. Speaking at a pre-draft workout at the Hornets' training headquarters on Tuesday, Williams said Paul is the best point guard in the game. He says Paul will probably be in New Orleans for a long time, despite other team's ongoing efforts to trade for him. Hornets general manager Jeff Bower says he's received many calls about possible trades but declined to specify which teams inquired. Bower says he considers every offer, but also says the Hornets place a high value on what Paul brings to their franchise and the community. http://www.washingtonpost.com/...AR2010062203979.html

Pietrus unproductive?? Wow He hit countless amount of dagger three's in the playoffs these past 2 years. He has had a wrist, ankle injury. But he has been a fast-healer and healthy for when it counts (like the time he injured himself in practice, before game 1 of hawks) The bottom line is Deng is a very risky move. We'd sacrifice our bench, flexibility for a guy who we don't know who fit in our offense, how healthy he can be. And if he doesn't fit, we're stuck with him for awhile with lots of dollars committed.

The problem is, neither is Pietrus, or Gortat, so why not get someone who could actually MAKE a difference, with Barnes possibly being gone...? Our production will be a lot scarier with Deng in our starting lineup, and Deng is nearly the defender that Pietrus is, so I don't see the fuss. I seem to remember us all crying about not taking it to the basket, and that's exactly what Deng does..You guys use words to your advantage whenever you need them. Look, Deng does what we'd need on this team, but now you want to bring up, "He can't shoot the three." 38% isn't shooting the three. Mhm. Pietrus shot that if I'm not mistaken. I just don't see the hate for Deng. We're not getting a superstar for an overpaid back-up center, and a shot-chucker with what you guys claim 'good defense.' Deng can bring that extra something to the table...I'm not seeing where the hate is coming from. The main arguments. "He can't shoot the three." 38% isn't shooting the three? Alright, get rid of everyone besides J.J. and Shard. "He's injury prone." Hello, Jameer, Pietrus, and Vince are all injury prone..Come on guys, this is basic. We were a lay-up and a free throw from winning the ring. Getting Luol Deng kills flexibility, our whole salary is the starting line-up. Plus Deng is not really a slasher. Like I said he's a mostly a mid-range ft shooter. He isn't a 3pt shooter, but he tends to not shoot them. 38% doesn't mean anything if you don't take them. You really want a starting line-up with 3 injury prone players making a ****-load of money?? Honestly, I believed that a while ago, but you're still holding on to the memories. We lost, fair and square. We weren't a layup away. We would've lost regardless, because LA was the better team, and they proved it...Their experiences trumped ours, and Kobe was maniacal. It's a good thing to think about, but we weren't winning that ring two years ago. Also, starting lineups win championships. The experienced players in Fisher, Kobe, Artest, Gasol, and Bynum won the championship this year, and the year before, because that lineup was amazing. Benches don't even make too much of a difference. Before you say, "NO! Benches can mean the world," think about it. Fine, we lost. Starting line-ups is what's most important but benches don't make too much of a difference? You just saw Big Baby, Nate Robinson win games in the finals. I wouldn't want to rely on 3 of our top 4 players being injury-prone with no flexibility to improve. Deng is an nice player but he's over-paid, injury-prone and is not the answer. Maybe so, but I just wanted you to get the idea and vibe that I get, that basically, starting lineups WILL win Championships, regardless. And I honestly believe that (even though this might contradict my statement a bit...), until Dwight gets his right-hand man like Wade, Melo, Bosh, or any other big FA, we won't win a Championship, and that's just being me. Everyone needs someone. Deng could be that missing piece, but he's no Wade. We'll just have to see..Otis knows what to do, and he's committed to getting this team a Championship. The better team will win. It doesn't matter if it's off the bench, or in the starting line-up. I don't think we need to pair-up Dwight with a superstar. But definitely someone besides VC. And Deng isn't it either. And like BRich said, Pietrus and Gortat are moveable assets, and Deng won't be. If Deng is the best option out there, than I'd rather wait til VC is an expiring contract.

His game is mostly mid-range jump-shots. Plus I think Pietrus is underrated, he didn't have a great series vs Boston. (Boston really made it a point to get out to him) But excluding that series, he really stepped it up in the playoffs both years. And he's my fav player. So no. OMOMGOMG that means you are unrealistic and you only want a top FA or top draft pick!!!!! its gortatttttttt he sucksssssssssss No it means, Deng is not a good fit. And Pietrus is. Not saying Pietrus is better. Why the infatuation with Deng? He's not leading us to a championship. Plus Quincy Pondexter (guy who we worked out) IMO is like Luol Deng. Obviously he's not gonna turn into Luol Deng in his rookie season, but is a nice prospect to groom into. If this is the best deal out there, I'd rather wait til VC is an actual expiring contract and ship him for a nice player. Because Deng is not the answer.

Yeah, I hope the Magic consider other options than the players they work-out if one were to fall to 29.
