    Magic vs Raptors

Wait until we have another meaningless late season run and take a hit in the draft lottery. At that point we get the 5th player in a 4 deep draft and then say "the lotto luck didnt fall our GM's way....what can you do". This team is pitiful and needs to consider full tank mode to even have a shot at improving in the next 5 years.

It would be nice to acquire the better of our pick or the Nets since I doubt we can find a way to acquire the Nets pick out right. At least at that point we probably have a 75% chance of landing one of the top 2 picks and thus not needing a talent to fall to us (which it hasnt lately). Hard to believe the best thing to look forward to this year is the damn ping pong balls again.....uggh

"The Magic are basically a flare burning in a trash can".... this after years of rebuilding.... ownership should be ashamed that the product after 5 years of horrible product is no better than it was 5 years ago!

I remember ESPN reporting it during Hennys tenure. I also remember it during Otis' tenure. GS was all in on pairing Dwight with Curry even in Henny's tenure.

Best deal was the Dwight trade? He had an offer of Klay Thompson and any other player not named Curry (and GS didnt want Dwights approval)....thats a no brainer but we wanted to make Dwight happy...lol. He had multiple firsts from the Nets with the possibility Dwight would have an injury filled career or more likely change his mind and leave NJ....that was a better option. The only other trade I remember centered around Bynum who no sane GM would touch with PRP injections in both knees and a horrible attitude. So Im not sure Rob did anything great with Dwight either.

    Magic Vs Bulls

Zero chance we trade the pick? Are you kidding? Henny knows his job as GM here is OVER right now unless he can hit a home run with a trade. That means all our best assets (our top 5 first this year, the Lakers first, next years first on another crappy Magic team) are up for a player that can in Henny's mind pull us back to respectability. This is the exact point where Otis went from bad to colossally damaging to our team. Ill use the exact thing I said with Otis "the GM has nothing to lose by making smart trades for our future because he wont be a part of it for very long. All he cares about is keeping his job right now and that means throwing all our future assets away for the present". If ownership lets him go unchecked he will send our firsts, future firsts and young talent away for an extra 7 wins this year. The chance of trading our first is 100% if Henny has his way....if ownership has any clue the chance of trading our first should be only if we get a great return on it both now and in the future. My guess is as usual ownership is asleep at the wheel and Henny mortgages our future for marginal veteran talent and a few more wins....and is fired anyway.

Vuc, Green and Ibaka for Butler....when did Rob or Otis become the GM in Chicago? It will take our two best players AND this years first (likely top 7 by years end) AND another unprotected first. You cant trade a collection of garbage for a true star unless you have a clown on the other end of the phone....as other teams have done when they called us.

Is It Time for Rob to Go?

Thanks for pointing out the outlier who by the way had no coaching experience and was paid a bottom of the barrel salary at the time....for the others I give you Jaque Vaughn, james Borrego, Brian Hill #2, Chris Jent, Johnny Davis, and Matt Goukas. Currently I would call Frank Vogel/Scott Skiles two guys who dont fit the scenario. Chuck Daly was brought in under Penny's time here but he was just picking up a check or got fed up with our club in a year. Brian Hill #1 really doesnt fit either because he was coaching a great team but sucked as a coach and also had no head coaching experience. As for our GM's we have had no pedigree for any of them regardless of the year and most have started as low salaried GM's with no prior GM experience (there are no Pat Riley's in the group). Alex Martins/Bob VDW....your choice on upper management incompetence.

Is It Time for Rob to Go?

The owners absolutely are all in with the money on winning teams but when the team isnt winning they are as cheap as they come. Devos is a fine man but he is pushing 90 on a borrowed heart so in reality he isnt running the ship anymore...its Martins. The Magic M.O. without a star is hire 4th rate cheap GMs and coaches who are first timers who are dirt cheap. They turn the team into heart and hustle which means a bunch of underpaid guys performing better than you thought they would and hope they sell a lot of stale popcorn and cheap beer in the mean time. When the right star player shows up and the team does well they again go all in on the players but the coaches/GM at that point are still garbage leftovers sure to find a way to drag the team back down and chase that star away because of incompetence. This cycle though is a special level of incompetence since the never dying cockroach is still running the show.

and dont forget about turning down Klay Thompson and any other player not named Curry on the roster in trade regardless of wether Dwight would commit to GS long term. Uggh...that hurts.

Like Ive said...this is the point where the GM knows he is gone unless he pulls a rabbit out of the hat....well Dragic isnt that rabbit and someone needs to stop him before he goes full Otis with our future. It is the time where a 3 year rebuild can turn into a 6 year rebuild for a bench player or has been. If this trade offer is correct it is time to fire the guy.

Is It Time for Rob to Go?

We should have taken the picks. 4 firsts and 2 seconds to move up to #9...and we get Mari"0" (note his new name for me is Mari0...because he is a zero at this point). We could have even traded down and ferreted a another first but instead we get a worthless reach. Ugggh. I know hindsight is 20/20 but damn our GM needs some glasses because he is like 20/500 at this point.

Anybody wonder how hard Rob tried to move up a spot or two in the draft? I would hope he made a strong effort unless of course he liked Mario so much he elected to stand put instead of trying to bring Porzingas here or taking a swing at Embiid's potential.

It looks like we are sitting at 11 in the draft now. I sure hope henny can manage to make a trade of Gordon and our 11 pick for some player on the down side of his career who will leave us at seasons end. It looks like we are back to being a half decade away from mattering. Nice job on your cost cutting 30 something gm martins.

When Rob signs the two worst contracts in NBA history and 3 more horrible ones on top of that we can talk about worst GM in Magic history....then I will lay the Duhon signing and failure of a high draft pick to be vetted before drafting... a player who had no intention of playing for us at your feet and you will agree Otis was the worst in NBA history including Isiah. Rob's not even close to Otis although he is making a strong effort to be a horrible GM.

Is It Time for Rob to Go?

good analysis but I would go further. I don't think Rob accounted for the change in the salary cap what so ever. I think he cleared space for a year which the cap jumped dramatically and everyone had big dollars to offer free agents. In the end he had to overpay for 3rd banana players and didnt even get one ear from any of the superstars of the league.

I did...and I was. I would claim to be one of the worst critics of Otis and it was very well deserved. I laid off Rob because the guy deserved a chance. Quite honestly his trade of Dwight now seems like he chose the worst of of what were considered other choices. IE it was said Klay Thompson and anyone not named Curry were available and they would take Dwight regardless of his commitment to them. The Nets collection of picks always looked better and I cant really think any rational GM would have considered Bynum as a asset. Bad attitude, bad knees and wanting a max deal. I still think Rob is light years smarter than Otis but is still a sub par gm who will never lead a club to the finals unless a Lebron like talent drops in his lap. Some claimed that the lotto luck doomed Rob but seriously....make a damn trade and move up. Sure it will cost you but unless youre thrilled with Mario type players you have to make it happen. Obviously Rob thought the talent he got would be good and he had no need to move up. Hence you have players which havent panned out...and it is HIS fault...not the lotto bad luck. We had the assets to move up and we chose to stay put...thats on him. I do think Rob finally made a good hire with the coach but the GM....he needs to go along with the cockroach.

This is the point where the GM will destroy the teams ability to rebuild for years by trading away remaining assets (as few as they are) for a home run shot which will never come. Its the point where Otis took a horribly made team and made it unfixable for 5 years because he knew his time was done and he wouldnt be cleaning it up anyway. If ownership were not asleep at the wheel (as they always have been) they would pull the plug on the guy before he drives the organization further into the dirt. While theyre at it get rid of the unkillable cockroach Martins and find someone who will hire a GM that has a clue of how to build and run a team. It seems ownership is content with paying the least salary possible to the person most responsible for assembling a team which can win a championship. Spend the money for a great GM not a 30 year old kid who sounds like he knows what he is doing but in reality is the laughingstock of the league. Ownership certainly did better than Otis but the bar was on the floor low with that clown. Its time we go after someone who has a track record of success and pay what it takes to bring him here. Its time to make trades that result in the Magic actually improving. Trades where we win...draft picks that pan out and a team with a future. Right now we are going backwards fast.

Is It Time for Rob to Go?

It is thus kind of thinking that allowed Otis to sink us into what was the worst team dollar wise in NBA history. He knew he was gone if he didn't hit a home run so what the heck he drove it into the dirt....like twenty feet deep. Face it his moves at best have created an 8th seed of a team with little upward movement possible. Sure he had bad lotto luck but needing to trade up one or two slots he stood pat and selected players which are long term projects which is now a fail in my book. I think it is obvious Rob isn't getting this team to the finals anytime soon. If that is the case cut bait and move on...just don't let him trade two of our future firsts on what will be a crappy team for some stiff who we will be glad to see leave in two years. I saw aotis do it...don't need to see it again.

And to think everyone on this board thought he was the second coming of Michael Jordan on draft night and here we are wanting to trade the guy for some mid grade filler instead of waiting for him to develop. Oh how things change so quickly.
