    Brighthouse/FSN Thread

quote: Originally posted by WPMagic:Alright LoD, here is what I know. I'm a Tivo guy. I love it, and the Bright House DVR was nothing close to it. It loaded slowly, looked crappy (the interface and box itself), and only kept one week worth of program info. The DirectTV DVR isn't Tivo either, but it's a hell of a lot closer. It keeps program info for at least two weeks in advance, is scary fast to load and work, and looks badass (both the interface and the box itself). I paid $199 for the DirectTV DVR. Yeah, that is pretty expensive, but I made a mistake. When I called and got DirectTV I did not try to haggle them for a better price. LoD, if you call them up and tell them you are interested in switching from cable, but can't justify the price of the DVR, I guarantee they will be willing to throw some deals at you to get you to switch. When I made the switch, they installed everything the next day, and this is what I got. -One HD DVR for $199 -Two standard receivers for $4.99 each a month ($10.00) total -All the HBO's, Max, and Starz free for 3 months -All the XM radio stations... Way better than Music Choice -All the local channels -FSN!!! -The NFL Network (even though I don't watch it, much less know what channel it is, but I know some of you actually like the NFL) -Many, many more HD channels like CNN HD and others. My bill looks like this: 49.99 for all the channels 10.00 for the two standard boxes ----- 60.00 5.00 Taxes... ----- 65.00 For all of the above 45.00 - I kept Bright House's internet because there isn't a faster OR better priced option, even though it is pretty slow in our area because of the high volume of usage. ----- 110.00 Now, before, when I had Bright House, I was paying something like 125.00 for the total package, so I am actually saving 15.00. This deal, however, only lasts for one year. After one year, the 49.99 package goes up 20.00 to 69.99 a month. So, when all is said and done, I'll be paying 5 to 10 dollars a month for DirectTV... But it's worth it! For what it's worth - I had been thinking of dropping Brighthouse for some time now. After realizing how many HD channels DirecTV had - I finally made the switch. Following the advice here - I called and made the case that I hated to pay $199 for a DVR system that I already have 2 of now and can't use. The sales rep provided an additional $100 credit that will show up on the first months bill. Additionally, if you have a family/friend with existing service, they will provide another $50 in the form of $10/mo off bill for 5 months. Just thought I'd pass along the info. $49 is a more reasonable price - though you do still have the initial $199 charge - you'll get $150 back.
  2. quote: Everyone in the building knew Jameer was going to go 1 against 5 Exactlty why he shouldn't have been in the game. Until Jameer can understand the team first approach to basketball, he will never be a good player. If so many teams have Brian Hill's play calling figured out - then simply use Jameer as a decoy and setup JJ, Turk or Hill. Wait, two of those guys weren't in the game and the third was inbounding the ball. Another fine example of what the .99 cent value meal will get you these days. This one is all on the ownership.
  3. Anyone hear the full interview with coach Hill? The short part I got was when he was asked about the short rotation, Brian Hill responded that he "played the guys he thought would win the game." Follow-up question was if this was a one-time deal, coach Hill responded no.

    Magic regains 8th playoff spot

We're going to the Super Bowl baybeee!
  5. I might be one of the very few, but I think Hill did a decent job tonight and the team responded. The team made him look good. There will have to be some give and take to get the right balance, but tonight was a step forward. There's no reason to get overly excited about this win. Let's see how they respond next game and go from there.

Poor 3 point shooting and too many turnovers. Luckily, we caught the Jazz on the backend of a rought night against the Heat. Let's just keep hope up the Magic turn this victory into a few more.

  8. New York and Indiana lost tonight as well.

You're right on the money. Until the Magic organization decides they want to win a championship, this team is.... well, as Doc would put it - it is what it is. There were coaches available and we ended up with Brian Hill. Regardless of whether he is a good or bad coach, that was a decision based on the amount of money the other coaches would have required.

Somewhat related: http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2006/11/welcome-to-...2-jungle-jemele.html Google seems to like people talking about Jamele more than the articles she actually writes.

  12. If Jameer becomes our shooting guard, I'm leaving town. It'll be one on five.

Between her and Violet Palmer... The Magic don't need any enemies.
  14. quote: You can probably look it up on the internet and learn a thing or two about it. Now that's funny. I can see it now, basketballplays.com. An online service for coaches to download play books and offensive/defensive schemes. For an additional $19.95/month, they'll scout the other team for you.

    Scouting JJ Redick

Jealousy or afraid he may take their spot and minutes? No matter what Jameers ignoring him shows why he is not a true point guard. Maybe because he is taller? Seriously, there doesn't seem to be any reason. He fights hard off screens and by running through the paint - only to be ignored.
  17. I like Jameer, but he plays a little too similar to Francis for my liking. From what I've seen this year, 2 or 3 clutch shots is not worth the aggravation. We need a point guard.

    Good long Dwight Article

    Short article on the fans

Certainly not advertising a website - I have nothing to sell. I simply posted a link to an article that I wrote, in an appropriate forum instead of the main Magic forum.
  20. I usually don't post this kind of stuff, but I wanted to share: Magic fans fading

    Perimeter Players

Ariza is my favorite player not named Howard. I like Hedo - but he's not getting the job done. I have no beefs with Hill, but he needs to be coming off the bench. keep his minutes down. I would have traded his expiring contract in heartbeat though. As for Bogans, I think he'd do well at the starting SG position. He's no better or worse than Stevenson - but without the baggage. The team in general is not too bad. Yes we need some upgrades in the offseason, mainly a scorer. But, I think the problem is more related to the rotation of players.

    Scouting JJ Redick

It's painful to see him stand around the three point line without the ball. I'd like to see him doing more of what made him a good player - moving without the ball. But I feel as if the Magic (or coach) is tryiing to reincarnate Pat Garrity.
  24. This is like asking who's worse, Donald Trump or Rosie O'Donnell. What's old Pat Williams doing these days? I bet he's writing one helluva book on this mess. "How to avoid throwing your business down the tubes in 3 easy steps!"
  25. Knappy - I don't know if I could give up on the Magic. I've followed the team for too long. But I agree, it's getting difficult to watch this train wreck year after year. Give me the '99 team and I would be happy enough. Stick in there - take a few games off.
