Here's a question: At what price do we think we might be able to get some of these guys? How much do we think they'll be asking for/ how much will other teams be willing to offer them? Keep in mind, we'll have to resign Darko, and we'll likely resign Grant for at least a couple million(whether we should isn't the issue here, so no flame wars). We'll likely also want to pencil in extensions for Dwight and Jameer, so how much will we have left to sign a VC or KG? I'd actually love it if someone just rewrote all those names with a dollar amount next to it. A reasonable estimate about how much will have left ot throw at them would be nice as well. For my part, I feel like we'll have 7-10m(depending on the CAP raise), which, barring a salary dumping trade, would give us enough to make a good run at Wallace(I'm saying 7.5-8mil) or Nocioni(6-7mil). And this isn't related, but could someone please explain to me how draft pick signings factor into the CAP? If it's the same way as FAs, then wouldn't that mean that 80% of teams could NEVER sign a draft pick?

If we were getting that type of production from Hedo OR Grant it would make a big difference. Looking at this team today, yes, we need a go to scorer. But, picture this team over the course of the next 5 years as Dwight, Darko, Ariza, Redick, & Nelson continue to develop. As that occurs, I don't think scoring will be our problem and I see a young, athletic, solid all around player like Wallace fitting in very nicely. A lot of whether or not we go after Wallace, I think should depend on what we work on in the offseason. Wallace has a similar game as Ariza, and we'd still be running into the same "No one to keep defenders honest/not tripling Dwight" problem. But if Trevor continues to develop an outside shot, Darko redevelops his(which he should've been doing the moment he got here last season), we commit to giving JJ meaningful minutes, and maybe even Wallace commits to the outside shot a bit more, I'm for it. He is a better defender than most of the players on that list, and he'll certainly come a lot cheaper than VC, KG, or Billups.

    The Fire Brian Hill petition!

For anyone who didn't catch it, on Marc Stein's power rankings this week, he says(more or less) that Hill should be fired if the Magic miss the playoffs.

Marc, I don't have the seniority to grant myself the venerable title of idiot. If it's deemed by the more senior members of the board that your suggested plan be followed, I'd accept it.

Well, we "idiots" clearly dont know much. I was always under the impression that calling plays was only one very small portion of a coaches job. I thought he also has to make substitutions, form game plans, exploit mismatches on offense, prevent and adjust to mismatches on defense, develop his younger talent, find ways to utilize his team's talents the most effectively, and make adjustments to team strategems when necessary. And I can't speak for everyone on the board, but THIS idiot thought that you were supposed to capitalize the first word of every sentence.

Actually they would have no cap room other than the MLE. Taking VC off only brings them down to around 53 mill including Krstic's caphold (similiar to Darko's just not as large). The the cap is estimated to be around 57 to 58 mill. next year. They won't have much room unless they move Kidd, Collins or Jefferson ($38 mill combined). To me, the interesting thing about NJ is tha tthe Carter/Kidd/Jefferson combo has proven to not work well enough to bring them a title, and kidd and carter aren't getting younger. Meanwhile, they can't pick up anyone in FA, because they're contracts are so bogged down. WIth the exception of those three, and the painfully overpaid Collins, no one on that team makes more than 2 million, and name one good FA that'll come play for that amount. Thorn needs to blow up his team. It's a shame that it looks like we weren't aggressive enough ot force him to.

I'm seriously going to wonder what'll happen if the Magic don't make any moves, and then we get killed again Friday. The way we've played since the break has been disgusting.

I said it in one of the other threads, but I think the best deal for both teams is Ghill and Dooling(and possibly a pick) for Carter and Collins. They get 20 million off the books at the end of the year plus a possible draft pick and we agree to eat Collins's extremely bloated contract(half of Battie's production for an even bigger contract. Ugh). In exchange, we get Carter without sacrificing any of our young core.

It seems to me that NJ would be stupid to not blow up their lineup now. Kidd and Carter aren't getting any younger, and it's already been proven that the Carter/Kidd lineup isn't going to win them a title(might not even win them the weakest division in history), and they're too bogged down salary wise to bring in anyone else to help them out. With Jefferson, Carter, and Kidd combining to make almost 44 million, the Nets have to trade at least one of them in order to bring in anything. The only other player on the team that has a contract worth more than 3 million is Collins, and he's making more than Tony Battie makes in Orlando, while producing half of what Battie does. It seems like NJ's best bet would be to blow up the franchise and aim to get themselves under the cap, particularly since the Cap could jump far more than it's usual amount this year given all the added revenue from international sources as well as the allstar game in Vegas, and then try to rebuild around Jefferson. It seems like at this point, the best they'll get would be the agreement of we'll give them Hill's contract, Dooling's contract, and a pick and in return we'll get Carter and we'll have to take on Collins's painfully bloated contract. This gives us carter and an overpaid backup big no one wants, and it gives New Jersey a draft pick, and 20 million in Cap relief at the end of the year.

The heat would never trade Wright for Carlos straight up. What if we threw in there the rights to Fran? Would that make sense for the Heat? Boy, would I love to have Dorrel Wright in a Magic uniform. Him and Trevor would be straight up crazy. At this point, the rights to Fran are worth about as much as the rights to sign me, and I'm a 21 year old, 6'1 shooting guard with no left hand, who hasn't played competitive basketball since he was 14, and goes to Arts college. What I'm trying to say is that Fran Vasquez sucks.

I can't find a girl that hot who'll let me sleep with her , let alone her and occassionally someone else.
