Chris Sheridan - ATL vs. ORL

And perhaps most importantly, they need Al Horford to pull him away from the basket by knocking down his first couple of 15- to 18-foot jump shots. http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydi...me-100503/daily-dime Is this really what it has come down to? Seriously?

  4. So you guys think the reffing is fair huh?
  5. A game like this only makes me appreciate how the Magic play D all the more. The Bobcats and Celts claw kick and elbow and hopes the refs don't call it. I've never seen our guys behave like that and we have the best D in the game.
  6. Why is Kevin Mchale slobbering all over the Bobcats?
  7. I am just speechless right now. Just...wow
  8. We are gonna need both Vince and J-Will to wake up if we are gonna win this.
  9. I really am getting paranoid

    new rule in nba

    That's the only defense.
  12. MP showing Vince how it's done. Where is Vince by the way?
  13. I have never seen a superstar player treated the way Dwight is treated.

You see the blatant bull that's happening on the floor and don't want to be honest. If we are not playing well then i say we aren't playing well. If the opponent is playing great then i'll say they are playing great. Charlotte is not playing great! They are fouling the crap out of us and the refs ain't calling JACK!
  15. I am beginning to feel paranoid. Is it just me or does it feel like the refs are giving the Bobcats every chance to win this game?
  16. I'm not sure how to feel about this?

I picked Utah to upset the Nuggets in 6 and Spurs to edge the Mavs in 7. Everything else is pretty Standard.
  18. We know the league has given the offensive player every advantage, but should they start looking at giving the defense a chance to get catch up? Should they increase the number of fouls each player can commit during a game? It's by no mean s a "cure all" but it's really frustrating when your star player has to sit out for a period of time because he may foul while playing defense (or to a lesser degree offense). Why not just penalize the team with a technical whenever a player commits more than 6 fouls? I'm sure there are other ways to address the issue as well, but i really think they should take a look at it.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Live or Die Magic:I like Bhnole's point about unlimited fouls only encouraging the hack strategy. I do feel that 6 personal fouls and then a player is out is pretty ridiculous. Comparing sports doesn't always work, but in this case, I want to compare basketball to football. An offensive lineman can be whistled for holding or for false starts an unlimited number of times per game. A cornerback can be called for illegal contact an unlimited number of times per game. The only infraction that can get you tossed is personal fouls, and even that is heavily in the referee's discretion. It just bothers me that a team can be forced to play without a certain player just because he touches a player's wrist too many times. Even worse, many of those fouls were called by referees who don't always have a good line of sight or who have to make an instantaneous judgement call. The point being, it is out of the player's hands. I think there should be a happy medium where players cannot be made ineligible, but there is a more costly penalty beginning with the 6th foul. For instance, for the 6th foul and beyond, the fouled player gets two free throws AND a technical (made by the designated best FT shooter on the court). At least this way, the player remains eligible, but the coach has to make a decision about whether it is wise to keep the player with 6 fouls out on the court. This could work for us when people foul Howard. A player with 6 fouls hacks Howard and there is a good chance he makes at least one of them. Then someone like Jameer nails the technical free throw, and we still have our two points. It could also work in our favor if Howard is the one with 6 fouls. We can have him out there and it would almost immediately alter how the opposing team plays offense. They'd be driving at him on every possession, trying to get two FTs and a tech FT. Very well thought out post. I was looking at it objectively and i understand the concerns, but i still think something should be done about the 6 and out situation. No other sport has to endure this kind of thing. It really does not encourage defense at all. What is the penalty of shooting too much? You might miss tons of shots and your coach pulls you. But what is the penalty for playing consistent aggressive defense? Fouling, which limits your time on the court. Have you ever seen an offensive player reluctant to try to score because he has between 3-5 fouls? But defenders are always cautious in the same situation. It needs to be evened up a bit.
  20. I hear what you are all saying, but look a the situation Dwight he is in. He enforces the paint like no one in the league does. He is constantly in danger of getting fouled out of every game. Without Dwight our game changes dramatically on both ends. He's not gonna back down and give a offensive player an easy path to the rim. So basically we will always have a Super Star in danger of not being able to he'll his team every game.
  21. quote: Originally posted by KillingInTheNameOf: quote: Originally posted by Darthmagic:For those who say no, why? I would personally advocate several rule changes, more fouls wouldn't be 1. I wouldn't have a huge issue w/something along the line of summer league rules however where the opponent receives 1 extra FT for every foul committed by a player over 6. You have captured the essence of how i feel. The issue isn't even the amount of fouls but the fouling out thing. I think it needs to go. People watch games to see the stars, too many times guys have to sit their best players because of foul trouble. I've been saying t long before Dwight came into the league.
  22. For those who say no, why?
  23. quote: Originally posted by Magicman28:Very tragic. After 20 years of watching basketball and sports in general athletes progress but the officating gets worse and they don't even try to hide it. Its like they are trying to insult the people who have followed it. I remember the play that peaches got elbowed in the face AND WAS CALLED FOR A FOUL! It was embarrassing and yet the story lines read "Magic survive bobcats". The refs played a greater role in the Cats "comeback" than did the players.
  24. quote: Originally posted by IronMaiden:I think they should quit calling a foul every time an offensive player drives into the lane initiating the contact, looking for free throws. So you think it's more about enforcing the correct rule than changing the amount of fouls? I can feel that. It's just sickening that a guy can't defend without being called for some silly fouls. Especially when the player is looking for a foul. It's almost like if a guy has the ball in his hands he becomes invincible.
