    Paul wants out (with link)

If this ends up happening (which it won't), the lineup of Paul, Redick, Richardson, Lewis and Howard would be the greatest lineup of complementary pieces I've ever seen. Paul and Howard is enough by itself... 3 great shooters, including a stretch 4... that's just scary.

Wizards Insider: VC for Gil *will* happen

Although in Gilbert's case, the argument that "it was all just immature fun, not serious" is more akin to "I didn't know the prostitute I was caught with was underage". Even if the latter part was true, you're still guilty of something before that which is, you know, a felony. Fair enough. To hold it against him in a trade, however, I still don't see any weight to it. I'd put the chances of him doing something immature like that again at next to none. I just don't see the issue. It's not like he's a bad character or cancer in the locker room, to my knowledge. He seems involved in the community, generally playful and good spirited, etc.

That doesn't mean he wasn't good, or even VERY good. He was 3rd team all-NBA that year based entirely on his ability to score(since he's not all-star level at pretty much anything else). That's impressive. But that doesn't make him as good as the best players in the league. I never said he was a better player. I said he was as good of a scorer as Wade from '04 to '07. I later said his percentages were on par with Wade and Kobe, again referring to '04 to '07. I stand by those statements. Kobe and Wade are/were better players, but Arenas was on par with them scoring-wise, at least with Wade.

Raping a girl goes WAAAAAY beyond anything Arenas did, and absolutely deserves full punishment and distrust, despite any track record, since the INTENT was 100% malicious. Arenas made an immature mistake, and aside from that one mistake, he's had a clean track record, and I had fully considered him one of the good guys in the NBA. Playful mistake... Malicious ****... playful mistake... malicious ****...

I'm not denying he was a very talented scorer. He just happened to be an inefficient one in most seasons, and you're trying to place him in company to which he doesn't belong. What? Using Kobe's 35 ppg season to devalue Arenas' remarkable season, averaging close to 30 ppg with percentages equal to, if not greater than, Wade's and Kobe's? The numbers are right on par with Wade. I guess there's no convincing you, but the numbers support my argument.

It's just not worth it right now, plus we need some fiancial flexibility for when Dwight is a FA. Anyone who cites the gun incident as a reason to not trade for Arenas is looking way too far into it, and/or ignoring his overall track record. People look way too much into the fact that my neighbor raped and murdered that sorority girl. I mean, yeah, he did that, but he's not a bad guy! He even helped me fix my lawn mower! Overall track record! There's a huge difference between maliciously raping a girl with 100% ill intentions, and playfully, albeit extremely immaturely, joking around with a gun, no ill intentions.

So did Jerry Stackhouse. From '04 to '07 Arenas was every bit as good of a scorer as Dwyane Wade. They scored comparable number of points, but Wade was way more efficient. Hence the Stackhouse comparison. Even in his peak, Arenas was never above average efficiency, with one season as an exception. He just shot the ball a metric ton. Completely untrue. Arenas shot more threes, thus lowering his overall FG%, but from a TS% and eFG% standpoint, he was right on par with the likes of Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant. Say what you want about his height, defense, etc., but there's no denying the man was an elite scorer during that time.

I never said Arenas is/was a better player, but from a scoring perspective, you can absolutely put him right on par with Wade from '04 to '07. Arenas, during that time, was an elite scorer in the league, and there's pretty much no arguing that.

  13. Here's an Arenas (28) age comparison... 5 years younger than VC (33) Same age as D-Wade (28) Same age as Jameer (28) A few years ago, he was in the conversation with Dwyane Wade, and the Wizards were having fantastic success, even leading the Eastern conference for a while. Of course, he's had multiple set-backs since then, but he absolutely has game. Can he get back to all-star level? That's debatable, but there's no denying the man's a competitor. Drafted in the second round, he made a name for himself with everybody doubting him. He wore the number zero because that's how many minutes people said he would play in college. The man thrives on proving people wrong. Enter the gun situation. More than ever, Arenas has something to prove. Contract-wise, the trade is questionable. Obviously, Otis has searched and failed to find a better deal if this goes down. He could wait 'til the trade deadline, and VC's contract would go up in value, but then we have to deal with integrating a new key player half-way through the season. Plus, if Arenas plays even at 2/3 his olf self, would said player be any better? Unlikely. Character-wise, Gilbert Arenas is a little nutty, but he's not what some people would call a "thug". I really do think he's a kind-hearted person who just made an extremely immature decision with no ill-intentions. Another way to look at the whole thing: Arenas' value is at an all-time low. From the gun situation to Washington drafting Wall, we could never get Arenas for less than we can now. It's a situation that could really pay off if he gets his crap together, and at 28 years old, I really think he can.

  17. quote: Originally posted by BillFan: I agree and honestly, JJ deserves a big pay day. He worked hard for it. I have a feeling VC is gone and the Magic plan on starting JJ. I agree completely. Ideally, VC gets traded for a SF who can handle the ball, a lot like Turkoglu. Iguodala (crosses fingers) comes to mind as the PERFECT fit, but I'm not so sure how likely that is. PG - Nelson, Duhon SG - Redick, Pietrus SF - Point Forward, Q-Rich PF - Lewis, Bass or Anderson, maybe Brand C - Howard, Gortat Miami would have a sexier starting 5, but when it comes down to business, you couldn't construct a better quality starting lineup in terms of complementary talents. Nelson and the point-forward controlling the ball, 4 shooters around a dominant inside presence, multiple slashing options, multiple post up options, multiple iso options... I still dream of landing a top talent like CP3, but if we could get a player like Iguodala, I'm just as happy. On the other hand, if we keep VC past the trade deadline, unless he pulls a complete turnaround (and I don't mean turnaround jump shot), I couldn't be more disappointed as a Magic fan.

Matt Barnes - Major Signing Announcement Tomorrow

Is Pietrus our most athletic wing defender? Yes. Is he the smartest? Hell no. You can't really say who's the best between Barnes, Pietrus and Redick, because they each match up better with different players. I'd put Redick on someone crafty like Ray Allen, Barnes on a tricky, athletic scorer like Kobe, and Pietrus on an athletic, physical guy like LeBron.
