Which UFA should we target with MLE?

I'd settle for Pietrus and Najera. That plus a decent draft Rush/CDR would keep us headed in the right direction.
  2. Hey, guys I'm one of those year round visitors here. I don't post much, however in the off season I do more often since the threads often die much quicker. Anyway, here are my two cents. Hedo for Calderon and a pick in a sign and trade with us. Truely I think this benefits both teams nicely. Then the MLE to Pietrus and we have already upgraded our starting 5. Then draft the best PF on the board... Possible? Maybe!

    Hedo for Calderon...

But now comes the kicker. Continued Calderon in the article: "I've been two years with him but I don't know if I could be another year because things would have to change." Barring a complete personality makeover by Ford, which doesn't seem likely, nothing can change in Raptorland. That is why a change in scenery for Calderon is best for all parties concerned. People have been clamouring for a player such as Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles Clippers, an athletic wing who is capable of averaging 20 a night and attacking the rim. http://torontosun.com/Sports/Basketball/2008/05/16/5584746-sun.html After reading that i'll ask a question, if were were to trade Hedo for Calderon, would he have the same kind of feud with Jameer as he has with TJ? No, because he would come here to start. No point in trading a starter for a bench player. He'll get the nod over Meer.
  4. As I look at our roster right now we have 3 legit starters. 1 C and 2 Sf's. I figured lets move the easier Sf to move and get back 1 of the remaining 3 positions in which we need a legit starter, and a draft pick. Now about half of the forum thinks Hedo is untouchable, so my question is how can we significantly improve our roster while keeping Hedo long term? Do we want to be the Suns or the Spurs? Keep in mind the salary cap, that Hedo has a player option on the last year of his contract, and realistic trades. Also the fact that we have 5 open roster slots to fill and potentially 7, w/ Bogans and Foyle having player options.

    It's just a game.

My condolences and take care of your family YFP.

I mean look at the teams left in the hunt, look at some of their pg's. Billups, Parker, Williams, Paul, Fisher (not great, but solid defender and leader) and Rondo is also a solid defender.

Quick question everyone How much did we run agaisnt Detroit? How that work out? Having a PG that can effectively run the half court and limit turnovers would have hepled us period.

Pickup Pietrus, and play Calderon next to him in the backcourt, with Shard moving to small forward and a bruising PF acquired through the draft (Dorsey?), all anchored by Dwight and we have a very good defensive starting 5. Factor in Jameer/Dooling, Bogans/Evans, Cook, Fran, Gortat, Battie, etc coming off the bench, and I think we have a better 12 man rotation than last year.

Yeah you're right he's not a great defender but he has good size at 6'3" and is an above average defender. However, on the offensive end he is a great passer, has great court vision and a great assist to turnover ratio.

However, If he could allow us to get a solid PG and improve that position substancially then why not do it?

Plus they risk losing Calderon if someone makes him an offer they can't match.

    Congratulations Pistons

You guys are still the team to beat. BTW beat the Celts please!

Milwaukee is looking for a PG right now, they already had Ford (and had success with him)wouldn't it be possible they would give up Charlie V for him? That is just one example. Hedo is a very "rare thing" as well. He is a matchup nightmare at 6'10", can dribble, shoot, pass, rebound, hold his own on defense, everything. He is a very versitile player, but the problem is... we already got one in Shard. The way I look at it is, we have 2 good SF's and have holes in other areas. Toronto has 2 good G's and has holes in other areas. Both Hedo and Jose are player who make less money than the numbers they produce. Its a perfect fit and makes perfect sense. I dont think Toronto would give up a 1st with it though, as they will probably look to bulk up their big men in the draft. That's how I see it. I think it's a win - win trade. The pick is negotiable.

    Hedo for Calderon...

Calderon is a solid PG period. Good size and great passer, he fits that's why I'd do the trade. I like Hedo but having 2 Sf's in our lineup caught up to us. This would give us a 1,3 and a5 for the next decade. THen we draft a PF and use the MLE on Pietrus and we have upgraded our team.
