    1. Dooling is a free agent. A bag of old basketballs would be gerat.

    2. They do get a valuable commodity, a TE (and cash.)

    3. They get cred with the players who see that the Magic have taken care of their players.

Talks of us not wanting somebody back should be reserved for Shaq or Grant Hill. As far as Darko is concerned, he's still 22 years old and was actually good in his season with us up until Cornstein screwed up everything. Let's look at the big picture and look at the positives that a deal including him would provide instead of the negatives.

As far as him taking minutes away from Marcin, I really thought of Gortat as a backup to Dwight. Maybe even a backup PF. No way Gortat is more of a starter PF than Darko. Marcin probably needs 1-2 more years of experience for that.

I agree that Marcin needs a year or two to be a starter, but lests be honest, doesn't Darko? Just because Darko is "talented" doesn't mean he can step into a starting role. Further, Marcin is fueled, fueled by his desire to be the greatest Polish basketball player ever and by his father's legacy as an Olympic boxer.

If Gortat had Darko's raw talent, he wold be NBA first team player in his career. I don't want any selfish, whiney, disgruntelled with their job to get paid TONS of money, *****footed, unmotivated sack of crap on my team, especially if he is going to hamper the growth of a player who really deserves every penny and minute of playing time he gets. Let someone else pay him a lot of money because he is tall.

So I was refilling the butter dispenser when I overheard Otis and Stan talking about who they want to trade for to backup Jameer. Otis said he was worried that if he made the wrong choice the fans would crucify him. Stan replied they were looking to get a guard with some size. Suddenly, the two saw me listening in on the conversation. I ditched my popcorn cart and ran out the doors, stumbling down the long flight of stairs. I walked inside and looked scared when my mom said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in bel Air." I whistled for a cab, and when it came near, The license plate said "fresh" and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cat was rare, But I thought "Nah forget it, Yo home to Bel Air." I pulled up to the house about seven or eight, and I yelled to the cabby "Yo homes, smell ya later." Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there, To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air.

    Pretty dangerous business.

I wish I knew where you lived so I could leave a flaming bad of dog **** on your porch.

If the Venues thread is The Dream, this thread isn't even Bill Cartwright. No chance.

    Bryant Reeves?

Well, it is a bloated shell of its former self.

I'm pretty sure even the hint of b-ball in a thread disqualifies it from HOF consideration. Making that bone yard a collection of Yinka Dare, Shawn Bradley, Peter John Ramos, Manute Bole, & George Muresan or highly amussing, big nothings.

Hey, Shawn Bradley had skills, he just could only perform at a high lvl for 12 minutes a game.

I believe, although I am no expert, that the exceptions have less of an effect on the cap.

Overall though, I think it's insulting to Dooling and he IS going to make more somewhere else. He's not my favorite player and I always had the feeling that something horrible was just waiting to happen when he got into the game, and he couldn't run the offense, but still, he's a class guy and worth more. The Magic should have just told him thanks and goodbye.

Agree, I don't see another big as a need, only a backup PG that can start the 10-20 games Nelson will miss.

  7. I wouldn't be suprised if Gortat will be the primary backup for the 4 and 5. (The 4 if Hedo comes off the bench and Rashard is at the 3. I don't think he will supplant Battie because Battie's ability to knock down the 12 footer will be invaluable for spacing with Dwight.)

But yes, I am very excited. This is premature, but my gut tells me the Magic should sign Gortat long term now, something like 5 years.

  8. I think that thing that JJ can offer, if they can find a place in the offense for him to do this, is to run around screens like a fiend and make his shots. If they can someone incorporate this into the normal scheme and rotation without having to make him the focal point of the offense, the oppossing SG will be very tired trying to guard him and hopefully limit his efficacy on the offensive end of the floor and make it easier on JJ. With this strategy it would maximize JJ's shooting ability, protect his defense and tire out the oppossition.

I don't know how many 2 guards enjoy getting Howard picks/elbows/concussions over and over, especially if the are a "star" player.

Anyways, I believe that Marcin is going to impress a lot of people next season. His back to back baskets against Rasheed still haven't eluded me.

I feel like a kid the night before Christman when I think about that short series. I am sooooo stoked about Gortat.

  10. The real problem on this team is not JJ, Jameer or hindsight 20/20 whatifs in drafts. I am sure any shmuck on the street could be the greatest GM is he could look into the future a few years, which is essentially what you guys are doing.

    The problem was three-fold:

    1. Defense on the perimeter. (Magic didn't have the size or athleticism for this, they got it now.)

    2. Getting a freaking rebound when we needed one. (Everyone forget the Detroit series? Second most important reason we lost. Battie and Gortat's emergence will help. At least they can box out in the PF position and aren't at the 3=point line. Not a lot of rebounds out there.)

    3. Free throw shooting. (This is unacceptable. Primary reason we lost Detroit series. This does not require talent, athleticism, height. Further, Dwight was ineffective for long stretch during the Detroit series simple because he couldn't hit his free throws.)

  11. It seems like the blue and white tinted glasees our out if you guys truly believe that a rookie can just hop into the NBA and perform at a high level at a position that wasn't even their best in college.

I will be very pleases is he can just be an average backup SG with flashes talent in his first year.

    Hey thanks for signing up!

Thanks! It's great to finally be on the message boards of the team that I have been following for the last 12 years. Now I am a true fan. Well not really. That requires me to have 1000+ posts here because this is serious buisness. That will mean that I have some knowledge of basketball, the Magic; women will throw their panties at me as I walk down the street and I will gain the ability create virgin conceptions where ever I go.

I am in awe that one like you would personally welcome me. I think I feel the stirrings of life in my wombless body. This is incredible.

Yes it could, but I pray that it wont because it would get in the way of me typing....
