  1. Well to be honest Orlando could pull the same situation with Tinker Field. The Portland Stadium was a minor league ball park just like Tinker is and could undergo the same quick renovations needed to make up a SSS.

I know the chances that Orange County Govt actually approves of this idea are slim, but the big reason why the Citrus Bowl isn't getting it's renovations are the funds aren't there to cover the 175 million dollar price tag. Why not divert those funds into making a SSS and doing the upgrades to BHNS? It would be a heck of a lot cheaper (most likely one third the cost of the renovations), you would gain a better venue to host all the things that Citrus Bowl provides, while also clearing a major hurdle to landing an MLS squad.

Besides I'm pessimistic about the Citrus Bowl anyway. The Venue is garbage, and a renovation is really not worth it for the City when we have something better down at UCF.

The Portland Stadium was still in use by the Timbers USL squad and a minor league team until they started renovations. Tinker has been collecting rats for years now. No way they could make the same turnaround for a similar price.

Diverting funds for BHNS that would have gone to the Citrus Bowl wouldn't be possible. First, BHNS was funded and is operated by UCF without any assistance from the city/county. Second, the area might not even be city, but only county which would cloud up where the money could come from. It might even have to have statewide approval, or at least that of the state higher ed board.

Funny thing about the Citrus Bowl is it actually makes the most financial sense out of the three venues (Amway, performing arts, CB). The events held there bring in a large out of town group that stays in our hotels (which is where a majority of the funding is coming from), eat and drink and do touristy things.

I'd love a good SSS more than anyone in town, but given where we are and the amount of political capital spent just for the city/county to be where they are now with the venues the money is pretty much going to have to be completely private.

  2. They can be very inexpensive (relatively) to build (Portland's stadium was only 31 million) and are great for what they do.

That was a renovation of a baseball stadium, so 31 isn't a fair price.

We aren't getting a SSS anytime soon. We still haven't renovated the Citrus Bowl. Only way it would happen is without public financing.

  3. Hey guys,

Im 25 and my gf is 19. Both of our parents have our blessing on getting married and I want to do something special. My girlfriend knows im going to propose and she told me she would say yes. Here are some ideas im tossing around in my head.

It would be the 1st game Magic face Miami at the amway center. The game would probably be in November or December. It depends on the NBA schedule which wont come out will August..and thats if there isnt a lockout. 1st of shes a Miami heat fan and Im a magic fan. I was going to tell her to wear her lebron jersey and I would wear my dwight jersey...that is if hes on the team still...lol.

My choice on how to propose are this:

Call a magic Representative and make them do kiss cam. Then when it shows us I will get on one knee and propose

I can ask a Magic representative to ask the crowd will section (whatever section im in) row (whatever row are in) and seat numbers to come down to center court to try to win a prize. then the next timeout...maybe during halftime... they make me spin her around blindfolded thinking shes going to shoot blindfolded..then i get on my knees and propose

My friend proposed to her GF 2 years ago and she said yes. I was wondering how much do you think it would cost... and does anyone have a number to call to ask

A public proposal? Yeah, that's about right for you kids. So into themselves they think everyone else should be forced to share what should be an extremely intimate and personal moment in your lives. Damn kids.

  4. I wish we had Charlie Davies. Constant threat on the attack

It wasn't that. It was a central midfield that was slow (Jones and Bradley) that gave up way too much space combined with a the deadly loss of Cherundolo. I'm sure Johnny B is a nice guy, but he shouldn't be playing at the international level. The lack of depth at the back is scary. I think we missed Timmy Chandler. We only saw him for a brief run a few months ago but he seems to have the speed and confidence to play back there.

Wouldn't have minded seeing Mo Edu get a shot over Jones at some point too. We also missed Stu Holden. He has the creativity to play well against a quick side like Mexico.

  5. As far as Dempsey goes I was referring prior to the Jamaica match (which is what we're basing Donovan off of, correct?). He had a horrible match against Guadeloupe and a less than stellar one against Panama. Jozy, don't get me started. Dude had a disappearing act against Panama that LeBron would've been proud of.

Like the options at forward aside from Jozy are serviceable...

  6. The problem is we always play to the level of our competition (besides Spain). We go stride for stride with England yet we can't beat Panama? Makes no sense, especially when Canada draws Panama right after we layed the smackdown on them.

My hockey coach used to have a saying, "when you let yourself roll around in ****, you stink". That's what our guys are doing right now, I expect a better effort and a win against Jamaica.

In the defense of Panama, that was their B team last night against Canada.
