If we don't capitalize on the positive perception of our talent we've finally built to make a consolidation trade for better talent my head's going to explode. Strike while the iron's hot!
Maybe there's truly nothing out there for us. Ideally something like a McCollum tier player.
Can't help but think a package of Bamba, Ross, and Cole + picks wouldn't be appealing to a team wanting more depth and youth.
-
I know a Durant trade likely would need 3 teams to get Brooklyn the haul they will want.
That aside, living in dream world what would be the best package we could offer Brooklyn in just a 2 team trade? While leaving the Magic and Durant with a roster best positioned to compete?
And if we were to want to get involved in a 3 team trade, what would we be wanting in a return?

Just now, Jay Magic said:Absolutely nothing. We are building organically from within. Everyone needs to relax. We are going to wipe the floor with teams next season
What we could be doing is trading 2 young guys (since we have so many) for a talented vet. A vet that won't demand a lionshare of the touches, but gives us something we need (like shooting). And most importantly helps challenge our guys to raise their game up.

Has any magic player welcomed him to orlando yet on social media? If not, hmm

I tend to be a big reader of body language and word choice. In my job it’s a skill that’s really helpful.
I look at that interview after he was picked and even The press conference afterwards and he seems to truly be in shock that he was the first pick.
There’s confidence with humility and then their shock.
Paulo was shocked.Totally agree. He didn't see this coming.

Still holding out for a trade for a star. Come on Donovan

What you can learn is character, mental approach, etc. You take every opportunity to learn everything you can about a potential top pick. You don't scout all year and then chill on the home stretch.

I hear you. But Giannis was deeper in the first round. We're talking top pick. Why wouldn't we want to take a chance to see him up close again. What's the point of smoke if we brought the other 2 guys in for workouts.
What's still in play...junkies trade for Sharpe (lol) OR a trade for a major star once that team picks.
-
Paolo said he had no idea this could ever happen. With the word being we didn't bring him in for a work out, I swear this pick doesn't make any sense.
Don't get me wrong, hoping for the best for us with Banchero. I just feel Weltham could have parlayed this into assets

Any chance Houston fleeced Orlando? Them telling Orlando they would trade for Banchero if we picked him. Then pulling out the rug from under us when they picked Jabari?
-
If we're not getting a trade done, poorly played by Weltham.
-
Also want to know, how did Woj catch wind we were actually picking Banchero. Who leaked if we're so tight lipped??
-
Why would the magic keep Banchero tight if they wanted him all along. No incentive to do that if you have a chance to smoke and trade with Houston. I still think that could be coming.
-
Ok, I no longer think Banchero is a good pick. Solely based on his decision making shown in wearing that suit.
Sign of things to come...

How are we feeling today vs say a couple weeks ago about the Magic hoodwinking the NBA and trading our #1 for an available star player? Who would you see as a realistic target? And would that scenario be your preference given everything we know today about Jabari, Chet, Paolo...and the lack of certainty in one of those becoming a bona-fide star?
For the record, I know likely we stick with one of these top players in the draft. I'm pretty amped about the total package today + ceiling in Jabari.

My money is on this being the intent. Think about it...this Magic organization is extremely hush hush about their targets and moves. They don't leak out anything unless they want to. If we publicize what we plan to do, other teams now know the mark and are prepared to come in higher first shot if they really want to pull Vuc away. Then it will be up to Vuc which to pick, taking the pressure off of us.

And Rondo to the Lakers?

Yeah we couldn't have gotten more for him on a 1 to 1 swap unless it was a fleece. So its better we did something rather than nothing.
Still think we had a chance to get more value overall had it been a multi player trade, like Elf and Vuch.
-
The Magic will be better the rest of the year from this deal alone. It's addition by subtraction. Now the other 4 guys on the floor don't have to move out of position to cover Payton's guy leaving him in the dust on pick and rolls.
Good for our team and our progression. Bad for our hopes of remaining top 1-3 worst teams in the leauge for draft superiority.
-
Would you rather...attempt to trade Vuch now, or instead use him as a trade chip in the offseason to combine with our pick from the Raptors to move up to a 8-14 draft pick? If we're talking rebuild, the latter sounds way more appealing to me at least.
-
I think you only have a window of time where players have the capability to remain engaged on a loosing team before they become fully disengaged loosing season after season. That window is probably 4-6 years max on thr same team. Humans instinctively want to win. There's only so much loosing one can take in the same environment.
If we truly plan to start rebuild mode again which could take several years for us to be any good again, we should preventatively cut ties with anyone who would end up in that window. We want guys with the right frame of mind going forward.

First, I love AG. However, his offensive game looks atrocious right now. He's jacking up bad shots and displaying a really low team bb iq. Thoughts?
In my opinion the same reason why it's hard for AG is that same reason our other players struggle on offense. We rarely run plays "designed" to get a particular player open. AKA calling someone's number. If we're trying to get someone hot we should call someone's number a couple times in a row in an attempt to get them in a rhythm. Too often we end up instead with some level of passing but ultimately resulting in hero ball anyway.

Payton has much better play making and passing abilities than DJ. All Payton is missing is a shot.
If be puts it all together consistently we are looking at a top 5-7 PG in the league.
Let's hope for our sake he puts it together. I'm a believer.
What about his HORRENDOUS pick and roll defense?? At least now he has ibaka and biyombo to bail him out.

It's a delicate move to bring in another star. It has the potential to affect Paolo and Franz's long term development if the star demands a lot of touches. Since our guys are still on the upswing and haven't peaked yet I don't think Weltman would bring in a Booker type for next year. Maybe a few years down the road.
I really think we're going to go for a starting PG that can score and distribute/put the guys in good position to take easier more open shots. We so need less 1 on 1 play.
