  1. I think Giles would be an interesting guy to take a chance on.

I would also put all my chips in for KAT. He's the greatest shooting big man ever. Man's is averaging 26.5 ppg on 65.4% TS (and 41.8% from 3 on over 8 attempts per game!) I'd overlook his mediocre D for that kind of production. To say he's simply a better version of Vooch is disingenuous to what Towns brings to the table

DRuss fits our core’s timeline, but can he play off the ball? Apparently he has good spot up shooting numbers. I’m also not sure on his maturity level as I know our fo values that plus defense. He’s 6’5 with 6’ 10 wingspan so he’s built for it; lateral movement could be a question. It would cost at least AG and picks.

There are some fit questions w/ this roster and D'lo but I think he and Fultz could make it work. We could stagger their mins whenever possible and having two elite ball handlers/playmakers in the rotation would be great for JI and Bamba. Bamba shouldnt be playing all of his minutes with DJ Augustin, who's goal it seems during. the game is to dribble the ball on the entire area of the court during a game.

I don't see why we should be pessimistic about him. Clifford was a good hire. Isaac was a good pick. Bamba is tough to judge right now because we don't really know what type of player he's going to be. Same with okeke.

We're constantly in the trade market. If Philly didn't trade us fultz we had a deal for Delon Wright on the table. We were rumored to be after DSJ, Ntilikina, Rozier.

We are good negotiators. We have a good idea of how we value players and trades and stick to those numbers vs bidding against ourselves.

We have a team building philosophy and stick to it.

The negatives are keeping Vucevic but the philosophy there was keeping an asset. If he's tradable then resigning him was smart. If he's not tradable then keeping him was dumb because they had enough time to evaluate his value and should have known better.

Do you know what the deal for Delon Wright would have been? Was it similar to the Fultz package?

Why are we worried about Gordon's ceiling?

He's not untradable but he is:

A 5 position defender (most of the time) who is probably a second tier on ball guy (not as good as Kawhi, jrue, prime Iguodala, Ron Artest. But in the same realm as prime Danny Green, Jimmy Butler, prime Mike Conley, prime Luol Deng)

A 14-20 ppg guy depending on role. Give him 12 shots and he'll only give you 14. 16 and he'll give you 20. Capable of exploiting mismatches and carrying scoring some nights. Not an every night guy. Not an almost every night guy. He's good for 14 every night though. With a good passing point guard again he's back to being the best cutter in the NBA. He's regularly in the top 25% in putbacks, top 15% this year.

A good passer for his position which let's you run the offense through him similar to Vucevic or Fournier.

A philosophical fit to pair with fultz. Almost an ideal fit next to Isaac if Gordon can get his shooting up to 37%. There's a reasonable expectation he can do that if he takes more catch and shoot threes and his role as a creator diminishes a bit with fultz improving.

He's probably not going to be an all star ever. He'll be an all defensive guy if there's a narrative that helps him (similar to Danny Green or Avery Bradley in the past) but he's probably never going to be a first team guy or dpoy guy because he doesn't do enough off ball.

But he lets us take advantage of Isaac's versatility as they can swap roles. We can use him to defend the opponents best player letting Isaac play a lesser player and roam and wreak havoc in passing lanes. His speed in transition and finishing ability is an asset to fultz as fultz has the highest pass to assist ratio with Gordon out of any of the starters.

That's really valuable to us with what we're trying to do. He's not Kawhi or Isaac where you can build specifically around him but he does provide a rare skill set that isn't readily available in the market especially with someone that fits the timeline of our major pieces.

I don't think the issue is his game compared to the team's. He's a fine player who I like on the team.

The problem is that he's going to enter UFA. for the first time in his career in a few years. And he's a west coast guy. Like you said, guys rarely play for 10 years on 1 team. So if we ARE looking to trade him, it should be while he still has time on his contract. Him as an expiring isn't as attractive given its a very team-friendly contract and he's a net positive player.

  5. Looks like Pat Williams is trying to get baseball in Orlando. As a Magic fan in the Northeast, I'm not aware of the "scene" in Florida. Could this team succeed? Would them and the Rays be able to coexist? Would you guys like an Orlando baseball team?

  6.

Jalen Rose talking about Fultz... with an interesting take on AG at the tail end (saying he'll be moved). Such a random thing to add in there... Unless he knows more than we do? He DOES have sources after all, he was the first talking head to say that Kawhi wanted out from San Antonio (at a time where he was ridiculed for saying so).

What would an AG trade even look like? I have no clue what his worth is. But I think some realistic targets could be guys like Miles Turner or Brandon Ingram

  7. Vooch has been absolutely ballin' during this win streak. He's playing fantastic defense, he's hitting 3s, he's performing well down low. He said that being in FIBA made him sort of unprepared for this season. Now, he looks like all-star Vooch in just week four. Hopefully he can keep it up.

If he can continue to play this well on BOTH sides of the ball, then I'll eat my crow about not wanting him back this year

Yeah we should always play 9 and it's hard to argue keeping MCW or Ross on the bench so it is what it is.

Aminu is a really important player for depth purposes as we saw last night but we should always be shopping our short term guys to try and get long term stuff

I doubt that a perennial western conference playoff team starter is happy with being out of the lineup while in his prime. I bet he gets traded in December

I'm not sure that anyone is untouchable on this team, however, I think Isaac is close, largely due to his defense and energy, partly due to the offensive flashes we've seen, and partly due to him still being on a rookie contract. Getting equal value for him at his current salary would be very difficult, so it would have to be part of a multi-player trade for a star where we dump other salary. The same can be said for any offers on Fultz. I sure wouldn't trade Fultz for a journeyman and a late first that could easily become two seconds, a la what we got him for. I do think we need to have a little more patience, as it is still early in the season, and I think guys are beginning to get back into the swing; at the same time I'm not sure there is any real excuse for being out of it to start this season.

I think that JI and Fultz are the only two "untouchables" (and Chuma... to an extent. I wanna see him play before making a decision on him)

AG and Bamba are tradeable for the right price

I wouldn't have a problem with trading anyone else on the roster though

Interesting discussion. I realize we are young, but what is a reasonable expectation going forward for this roster? Have we assembled a pretty good team with the potential to be good, or are we going to have to make some serious moves and try again?

I think 45 wins is a feasible goal for us this year

  11. I am so excited to watch our guys this year. This may be a piping hot take, but I'm really not ruling out a trip to the FINALS if EVERYTHING falls into place. Our depth is very deep. Aminu defending other benchs will make us stifling. JI and Bamba look poised for breakout year. AG is becoming THAT guy. Fultz COULD be #1 pick Fultz by March. Evan could bounce back. Do you guys agree or disagree? Obviously this is ABSOLUTE best case scenario for the season but I'm not ruling it out one bit

There are only two scenarios that make sense.

    1. We're talking a trade and the guy we're targeting makes such little money that okeke's contract is too much to match salary. But are you really going to wait a month for that trade to happen?

    2. Something completely unrelated to basketball occurred, like his agent traveled to Africa with Masai to help with basketball development over there and okeke is just like "hey no problem, let's just work out the contract when you get back"

Is the thing about his agent true? Or just a hypothetical?

I hear you. I just can’t get over the fact that he was the common denominator* on our best defensive lineups and net ratings for the second half of last season. And that wasn’t just bench units either. I get we just paid Aminu but I think Wes is worth the continued development as a potentially great 3&D player. I don’t know if Clifford has a history of ever going 10, but I’d be open to fewer Evan minutes if we can replace his shot creation/offensive value elsewhere. Short of that I expect Wes to get the injury minutes like everyone else, but I’ll be interested to see if the defense slips a bit from the end of last season.

*Hard to know what minute filters to use, but I did 24 minute minimum for 5 man lineups and 96 minutes minimum for 2/3 man lineups over the second half of the season.

Having Wes get minutes at the 2 would be good for us I think

  14. Happy Sunday everyone :) I was thinking today about possible roster/lineup changes that we could explore for next season. One idea I had was to give Iwundu some starts at the 2. I think he could develop into a poor man's Pietrus. I also saw someone suggest starting Chuma as a 2 maybe next year when he's fully healthy.

We would be sacrificing some spacing putting Wes as our starting SG, but man that defense would be incredible. And I love Evan's passion and intensity, but he may be getting traded soon. And I don't think T Ross makes for a good starter, since his perfect role is the 6th man.

What do you guys think of this idea? I would love to see a starting five of Dj-Wes-Isaac-AG-Vooch (and possibly as the season goes on of Fultz-Wes-Isaac-Gordon-Bamba). That second starting 5 I mentioned would be a matchup nightmare for almost every team. We would be so athletic and our fast break offense would be crazy.

Also, do you guys think there is a foundation for a future Dlo-Vuc swap down the road (maybe in a season or two)? Would you guys do it as Magic fans? I know I would in a heartbeat... Starting Fultz and DLo gives off Dame-CJ or Wall-Beal vibes. That, paired with our front court/bench of long bois, would be potentially championship contending in its prime.

I'm just glad Mario isn't in the team anymore. Such a frustrating player to watch. Did it again last season. 30 point game in a win against Washington. A triple double. Big moments of athleticism and defense. Can't put it together though

I will forever own my property on Hezonja island. I wish we had picked up his option and brought him back. One extra year would be a low risk move, and I'm curious to see how he would improve under the new coaching staff
