2017-2018 Official Season Discussion Thread

We need us a Jimmy Butler type of guy! Much respect to JB for taking the loss like a man and calling out himself as well as his team. If you didn’t watch the interview, you should check it out. I love his accountability and toughness. He’s got the attitude we need to succeed! -
Maybe they are showcasing Speights for a 2nd round pick. Let’s have a little faith with the rotations as there may be reasons why these players are getting some PT

I don’t think we’ll have to worry about a win, lol. Love the energy so far.

I wouldn’t mind bringing Gortat back on minimum. He lives here, could be a good vet in the locker room and give you quality spot minutes in a pinch. I see he’s vocal out there coaching some of the players. -
I wondered why Pop let him slide. He is a 2nd team energy player: no more, no less. He is still valuable and on a good contract. Hopefully he’s content with that.
-
He’s been stepping up some; I’m hoping he might net us a second rounder. I have a feeling this Iwundu kid is going to be a superb Swiss Army knife.

Iwundu our 2nd round draft at 33 > Mario 1st round at 5

This was very enlightening! Is it possible we are currently the worst team in the league? -
This is so depressing! They are just playing with us; how embarrassing! At least Wes looks decent tonight.

This team looks like their spirit is broken! We have had a rough 5/6 years by missing out on draft picks, switching coaches, front office and adjusting constantly to new systems. I feel a lot of this has been bad luck and self generated, but at this point in time we are definitely staring down at the abyss. This is about as bad of a team that I’ve seen since inception of 1989; at least some of those lean years the players had fight in them. I’m going to see what this new front office can do, but at some point we have to start looking at ownership. Nobody likes a constant LOSER!!! It just puts you in a bad mood. I do believe we have the best infrastructure for basketball operations that we have ever had with Lakeland in the fold and probably one of the best facilities in the entire NBA (thanks to tax payer subsidies); so yea I’m a little p.... that all the support the community has offered and we get this subpar product year after year. Unfortunately, now that the writing is on the wall that changes are certain to come; we may start seeing the players play for themselves instead of one another; knowing they could be auditioning for another team. -

I agree with us not extending Mario, I just don’t think he is that good; plus he makes a lot of bonehead plays like the 4 on 1 fastbreak last night. He thinks he’s better then he is. The one skill that he was touted for was shooting that should translate to the NBA; so far he has been underwhelming to say the least. He will be lucky to be at the end of somebody’s bench and most likely back to Europe. A waste of a 5th pick; one would think you would at least get a rotation player from that. Another Magic gaffe. -
My Christmas wish list: Payton and Vuc accept a bench role. Can the Warriors afford to resign Klay Thompson? PG is probably out of the question as well. Vuc has gotten better and would be great as a 6 man, but too much liability on p&r and rim protection for a starter unless we had stellar perimeter defense and we definitely don’t have that. He’s earned the right to see this through if he accepts his role. Unfortunately he is our best trade chip to clear salary or pick up a youngster with upside. Payton absolutely drives me crazy because you can see he has the tools to be an elite defender and his shot is better; we have to give credit where credit is due, but It seems that he loses focus on the defensive end and this seems to be his biggest problem at this current time. I also think it’s hard for him to play within a system as he is more of a freestyle playground type of player. Remember Rafer Austin! I still think pulling him from the lineup when Jameer just came back from injury may have cost us that series.

Time to look on the bright side: We are going to get a great pick! Also, I have a feeling about Iwundu; he’s rangey with a very high defensive ceiling. I think if he has the work ethic of AG he could become DeRosen lite with better D. Please humor me as I’m grasping, but it’s possible. All we got is hope. -
What..... now Vuc is out indefinitely. We can’t catch a break, we’re cursed! I actually really feel sorry for the guys.
-
I would prefer Devos spend whatever it takes to get us out of this purgatory, but have to be realistic.
-
Weltman and company made a solid move by signing JSimms, granted he is not a star, but solid for his contract; still better off the bench as a energy play maker. In 2018 Weltman/Vogel are officially on the clock and they probably won’t have much room for error. I expect we will try to shed some salary and begin a slow build focusing on culture and player development; it’s going to be a slow crawl, but sustainable long term. Just my ho. Being a Magic fan is truly an exercise of patience!!! Regarding the Issac pick, It’s hard to pass on that kind of length and athleticism; not to mention he’s a super quality kid. I’m going to trust the process thinking this administration knows of the available Point Guards in this draft or potentially the opportunity to snag one through the trade market.

I can imagine a lot of people are miserable about this team right now and rightfully so. We are as behind in our development as any team in the league and I’m not so sure we can top last year’s 29 win record; in part because of injuries. We should probably kick back see what comes our way in the trade market and in the meantime give our Vets a break by playing our developing talent, hitting full tank mode. -

This is sooo disappointing on so many levels. I know we have injuries, but we are just a bad basketball team with no heart. CLEAN HOUSE!!!!!! -

It would be awesome to get PG. I wonder if his relationship with Frank would make a difference? Probably not too likely. -

Maybe Hennigan will take EP off our hands. He should, we could have had Saric and our draft pick that we gave up. We got thoroughly hosed by Philly on that one. I doubt Henny will ever get a shot at running a front office again after that tenure. He set us back 5 years. In all fairness it’s possibly not entirely his fault, but he had a big part. It just goes to show you how valuable experience and a track record is. -

I hear you, EF is a tough call for his salary, but I do think he is better then he gets credit for; probably a 3rd option on a good team; a little overpaid, but that was the market at the time. -

We got to give Weltmen and company a chance, I remember Alex saying he is no longer in basketball personnel decisions, let’s see what happens and if the collaboration of the Devos family on these decisions keeps producing the same type of product, it’s time for new ownership. I don’t know about you, but this is my last run before I change the channel.
