2016-2017 Season Discussion Thread

How did Tyus Jones do in those three games? -
I'd happily send them Jeff Green with a nice little hand-written note taped to his forehead thanking them for their business and wishing them the best in all their future endeavors.

I think you pick the best guard available. Strengths- shooting/athleticism/defense. If the Payton of the last few weeks is closer to what he's going to be going forward, then we put a guard next to him that compliments him and checks the boxes we need. Let the rotation/lineup figure itself out when the time comes. -
That is the absolute ideal outcome. What would you say the chances are of it working out like that? Speaking of chances, I'd say the chance Ibaka resigns with us this summer is less than 10%. Need to cash in on him while we can.
-
This. And there's no point in resigning him this summer if we're still at least 4 years from contending. I'd rather go fully into the reset and hope for some better luck in the next few drafts. Keeping Ibaka around just hurts our position this year and the next few, if he were to resign.

Things are quiet. Something is happening.

It's awesome that you were able to omit 2-3 of his worst blunders and still make your point. Henny is horrible, but he hasn't even sniffed Otis' level of awful-ness. Nor will he have the opportunity to. -

Going into this season, I was pretty excited about the prospect of being able to root for us to win for the entire season. We haven't even made it to the half way point, and I'm already back to the familiar position of rooting for losses to enact trades and improve draft position. I don't know how many years I can do this. This isn't how it should be. -

Exactly. We win the games we aren't supposed to and lose the ones we're supposed to win. -

Duh. -
I think that's a distinct possibility. He's one of the best assets that we have (that we'd be willing to trade for less than a star).
-
He went 3-3 from the line and was looking pretty comfortable. So I'm okay with him not going that route.
-
I just hope Henny is smart enough to walk away if they demand AG, which is where I presume they'd start the conversation.
-
I would highly doubt it. I think they'd want one of Biz/Ibaka.

We trust Bucher now...?

They owe us from the Tobias trade. We throw them a bone, they throw us one back. That's how this works right?.....right?

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=hh4qd2o. Think Detroit considers this?

I know you're joking and I'm not at all saying he should be fired. But there are some glaring issues with him that keep showing up. It's early on in his time with us and it'll take time to build a roster around his system and allow him to instill it. But there's still no excuse for his rotations at times. And I really just wanted him to flip out and get ejected last night, dammit!!!!
-
The officiating made that game last night the hardest game to watch this season. As you've all been mentioning, the female ref was absolutely unacceptably awful. I put a great deal of blame for the loss on Vogel. A better coach would have gone ballistic and gotten T'd up in the first half to send a message. He got upset, but not to the point he needed to. Honestly, I would have been okay with him calling her out to the point of getting ejected when the horrible calls continued into the second half. Something needed to be done. Along with that, the fact that he stubbornly kept AG out of the game in the 4th quarter (as has also been noted) even further makes my point that the loss was on Vogel. AG showed a fire last night that I absolutely loved. I'm sure the officiating played a part in it, but I saw him really light up when he had that bad turnover on a semi-break in the 3rd I believe. He made a nice spin move in the open court, but then tried to do too much on a pass in the lane and turned it over. He then tracked down Bazemore? and got made an unbelievable play to block his shot, which was questionably called GT. After that you could see his energy and intensity jump off the charts. Then he sits for more than half the 4th Q. WTF Vogel? In summary- We played 5 on 8 last night. But Vogels failure to appropriately handle the horrible officiating and stubbornness with failing lineups puts the loss largely on him. This was a tough one to handle as a fan.
