  1. they get a starting point guard and either an excellent two way/versatile all star level 7footer or they get 23yr old Bynum who while he has had injury problems is hardly a slouch - using PER there are only 2 centers better (Dwight and Duncan)

You don't trade Dwight. Period. Unless you're getting Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, or Dwayne Wade along with tons of other talent with those guys. Please stop.

  2. Why couldn't he still be our main guy at the 4? I don't see any drop in numbers with him switching from the 5 to the 4 offensively.

Because the 4 is primarily away from the paint and Dwight's strength is in the paint. So it isn't logical to take him away from that position.

  3. nobody is saying that dwight couldn't play PF. His strength (and the team's best option) is to have Dwight anchor the middle. If Dwight isn't in the middle, suddenly the lane opens up for attackers. And Okafor, though capable on defense, doesn't have nearly the same impact as Dwight.

    +1

  4. No matter what the media says I refuse to believe Dwight is a numbers guy. Winning is his number one priority.

That's the thing, from all I know the PF is his natural position. Most Cs in the league are naturally PFs, Amare, K love, Nene, and DH all started as PFs.

I don't think he is a numbers guy either, but Dwight is one of the top 5 players in the NBA right now. Why wouldn't you feed his strengths and make him your main guy when you run the offense? D12's strength is strong post moves and power dunks. Putting him at a 4 that is typically set outside of the paint doesn't really make sense to me. But maybe that is just me.

  5. I have no doubt Dwight can do both, guard the jump shot and remain inside, didn't Dwight guard both Kevin Love (man with big range) and Amare Stoudemire (one of the best jump shooting inside guys in the league)?

Or maybe eliminate this whole problem and start running some zones for the first time ever?

Also, offensively Okafor has shown he can get it done.

Yea, I think it would be interesting to see those two on the same team.

Also, it would be the #1 and #2 draft picks from the year that Dwight was drafted. Not sure if there has been a lot of players who have gone 1-2 in a draft and then eventually end up on the same team.

  6. I know that, but Dwight is better at everything than Okafor. Dwight's greatest skill is man-man post defense and help side blocking along with rebounding, all of those would be utilized more effectively at the PF position IMO.

Couple this with our lack of any PF talent, and Okafor demanding starters minutes, Dwight at the 4 could do a lot of good for this ball club.

Any reason you see not to do this that I'm glossing over or downplaying?

This is a petty idea, but pulling Dwight away from rim on the defensive end will hurt his overall numbers and maybe his confidence.

Also, just the way Dwight plays on the offensive end he would still play like a center even though he is labeled at the PF spot.

I just don't think you take the 3-time defensive player of the year and MVP contender away from his natural position. This is Dwight's team, why make him change?

  7. I don't know. . . if they know Paul's leaving and have the chance not only to get rid of their bad contracts but also get a high lottery pick, maybe they'd do it. I think it'd be harder to convince Minnesota, but it is Kahn. . .

I was thinking the same thing, but what would we have to offer the Hornets in return for Paul, Ariza, and Okafor?

Jameer, JRich, Bass, Hedo, cash, picks?

or make it a 3 team blockbuster

  8. Kendrick Perkins isn't/wasn''t easy to get at all. Which other big do you think could come here at a reasonable price? I don't think there are many.

If the Magic continue to go strong after Paul, what if the Magic try and have Okafor thrown in that mix? I realize he has a bad contract, but that could be a potential deadly duo.

Or if the Magic go after a player like Prince or Rip Hamilton, see if the Magic can throw in a player like Greg Monroe who even though he is a rookie, is a really solid player and could give us that young core that we want to see so bad.

Of course all of this relies upon the new CBA and instead of seeing an All-Star team formed like the Heat or Knicks. I'd love to see a "TEAM" formed like Skywise suggested. A team like the Thunder or the Celtics or the Pistons from the Billups, Wallaces, Prince, Hamilton days...those are the types of teams that win championships and with Dwight as our center piece of that team, it needs to be a defensive minded, collectively aggressive team that shows no fear - like the Grizzlies are right now.

  9. I'm not so sure we need a lock down defender at the 4 but someone capable of grabbing the rebound when Howard goes for the block. Zach definitely fits that bill. My argument has to do on offense. It's like when Shaq went to LA and had Elden Campbell playing next to him. Campbell was ineffective so they traded him to the Hornets where he played much better. Howard needs Horace Grant, not Elden Campbell.

I agree that JR is an upgrade over JRich but I'm skeptical on how well we will do with SVG.

Here is a list of FA for 2011 (and 2012): http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-11-12

I would not mind Pryzbilla as a backup to Dwight or Greg Oden. Carl Landry, NENE Hilario, YAO (imagine YAO playing center and moving Dwight to the 4), Shane Battier (perfect @ the 3), Prince, Pietrus, there's enough guys to add to the team that could improve us immediately.

I can imagine Yao playing next to Dwight..........for all of 5 games until he got hurt again

  10. Unfortunately, even if there were 10 Pauls and 10 Derons, we still would not be able to trade for one of them or sign one of them because we stuck with Arenas who still has 3 years on his huge contract and is untradeable. We can't add another PG with big salary because we can't use 40% of our salary cap on PGs. Plus nobody would want Duhon as well. Arenas can't play SG at all and needs time to produce at PG. So our only chance here, that Gilbert gets back to shape and plays solid next year. So the only change we can do with our PGs is internal, to start Gilbert if he gets better physicaly and play Jameer off the bench.

I don't know about that. I was thinking of it a couple of weeks ago and outside of the legit point guards (Rondo, Paul, Williams, Rose, and I'll even through in Nash and Kidd) who in the league would not consider Jameer, right now, as an immediate improvement to their point guard situation? Jameer may not be the best PG in the league or the type of PG that the Magic want, but he is still better than the majority of the league.

I think he is a tradable asset. I think that packaged with the right players, the Magic could trade for a Paul or Deron. The only question is who would those other trade pieces be?

Also don't forget, with the new CBA, the Magic could possibly cut a current player which could tremendously help with cap space if it were Hedo or Arenas. But we won't be able to figure that out till after all of the CBA stuff is figured out.

I also think you can trade just about anyone (we did get rid of Lewis' awful contract), its just a matter of finding a team with a want and throwing in a player along with that deal - in the case of Duhon.

  11. The question is, other than Paul and Williams, what other point guards would the Magic have their eyes on as an improvement?

I've always liked Devon Harris because he is incredibly quick and tall for a PG. I'll be honest and say I haven't watched him play in about 2 years (since he was with the Mavs) and so I'm not sure if he has lost a step or what.

Personally, I'd love to see the Magic try and do anything and everything to get John Wall, you've see Wall turn McGee into a recognizable name. Imagine him along side D12. He's only gonna get better. I realize he's got a lot of things to work on, but this kid is going to be one of the best PG of all time by the time he retires. Unless, God forbid, injury hurts him.

However, for this season and at this period in time. I'd rather see the Magic get Paul/Ariza or Williams/Outlaw and then trade for a improvement at PF. Then sign a back up big for the Vet min. Maybe Nazr?
